Chapter 135: Alex Lie
There was more to it that she did not say to Alex.
In fact, Henrik had been pursuing her relentlessly for a long time. But being how capable she is Miss Evelyn knew he spent his days in debauchery and acted arrogantly with his rich nobel friends.
So knowing how bad he is how could she possibly accept his pursuit?
Miss Evelyn despised these types of rich heir sons the most.
A few days ago, when Henrik learned that Miss Evelyn was growing close to Alex through his spies which he planted around her so that he can have all information about her at all times his eyes completely turned red with jealousy and rage.
On what grounds can this man be so close to Miss Evelyn! And what capabilities he has that it was even Miss Evelyn who had initiated contact first!
Meanwhile, he, as the eldest son of the Henrik family, had tried to ask Miss Evelyn out numerous times over the years only to be rejected at the door!
Seething with rage inwardly Henrik already saw Alex as his number one enemy.
"Damn it, this guy dares to pick a fight with Brother Alex. He is asking for death," Nathan who was sitting at the lower tables muttered with his anger and anxiety filled eyes.
After all today many of the city's influential figures were present including the County Sheriff. If Brother Alex answered incorrectly he would be like literally playing with fire.
Seeing the atmosphere become tense and heavy, Sheriff Bowen laughed loudly while trying to smoothen the things over. "Everyone, being able to find them is Young Master Alex's own ability. However, Young Master Alex, I am also curious as to how you found the bandits if it is convenient can you please enlighten us."
Everyone present turned their gazes toward Alex in unison waiting for his answer.
In their opinion even the County Magistrate that has so much power in his hands had been unable to find the bandits' hideout.
So anyone would be wary towards a complete stranger that has appeared suddenly.
They all have only thought in their minds.
How on earth did this Young Master Alex find it?
Alex frowned slightly.
He could clearly see that this Henrik was trying to cause trouble for him.
Seeing Alex look at him, Henrik stood up and shouted loudly at him with accusations dripping from his voice which couldn't be more hostile than it is.
"Are you not speaking because you have a guilty conscience? I already had someone investigate your background! You suddenly appeared in Ironhold this month. And you just happened to know the bandits' location!"
"It is too coincidental, isn't it?"
His voice grew louder and more aggressive.
"In my opinion, you are one of the mountain bandits! You should be arrested and executed!!"
"You are nothing but a mere bandit who gained his fortune by betraying his accomplices. You are really cruel and ruthless to win the favor of the McCoy family lady."
"Sir County Sheriff, in my opinion, this man must be arrested and sent to prison to be tortured until he reveals the truth."
Henrik clasped his fists towards Sheriff Bowen and spoke with false righteousness in his tone.
After saying that, he winked at the other young nobles at the surrounding tables.
Soon, several playboys friends of his who were on good terms with him stood up and echoed him indignantly.
Clearly, he has come prepared.
"Yes, think about it. The County Magistrate could not find the bandit's hideout, so how did Young Master Alex's people find it?"
"Before this month, there was no such person in Ironhold, and from where did he suddenly appeared from?"
"Young Master Henrik is right. This man is most likely an accomplice of the bandits. Please ask the County Sheriff to arrest him!"
When these people echoed this statement, the scene became filled with a tense and suspicious atmosphere spreading throughout the hall.
Many of those present were swayed by their words. They looked at Alex with eyes that had completely changed.
"Could this man really be an accomplice of the bandits?"
"I think it is possible."
"If this is true, then this person must not be let off and must be beheaded!"
"Shh~ do not jump to conclusions until the results are clear."
"Yes, the County Sheriff is here. He will investigate it properly."
Most of the people who could become powerful figures in Ironhold were very intelligent in themselves.
They are smart enough that did not take sides casually but knew how to judge the situation carefully.
"Henrik, do not go around slandering people without clear evidence or proof!"
"If Young Master Alex had not helped us find the bandit's hideout, the people of Ironhold would not know how many more deaths there would have been die to the great famine!"
"Anyway this matter is all in the past. Why are you causing trouble for Young Master Alex now?"
Miss Evelyn was so angry that her chest was heaving up and down. She could not help but stand up and speak in defense of Alex.
Today, it was their family who had held this celebration banquet for Alex. However, Henrik had ruined the celebration banquet. How could she not be furious?
Regarding Henrik's actions, Patriarch McCoy also frowned deeply.
Henrik dared to do this, which obviously meant he did not hold him and his family in high regard.
I have to find an opportunity to give the Henrik family a hard lesson, Patriarch McCoy said coldly in his heart.
"Young Master Alex, since everyone is so eager to hear your method of finding the bandits, why not tell us?"
Seeing the atmosphere become more tense, Sheriff Bowen frowned and asked again.
Although he personally disliked the Henrik family's famous playboy, but what the playboy said was indeed somewhat reasonable. And since the matter had grown so serious, he had to address this situation.
Under the gaze of the crowd, Alex replied calmly: "Actually, I am not ashamed to tell everyone. I know a little about fortune telling and divination. This bandit hideout was calculated by me through divination."
Even if I mentioned the drone survey, these people would not understand what a drone is. So I might as well make up a reasonable excuse and get past this.
Fortune telling was a good reason.
Everyone looked at each other in disbelief.
Fortune telling?
Young Master Alex calculated the location of the bandits through divination?
Henrik sneered loudly. "Do not make me laugh! How dare you talk about fortune telling? Who do you think you are? Ironhold has been suffering from severe drought for three consecutive years.
The County Sheriff has already invited many so-called priests and fortune tellers to pray for rain, but they all ended in failure!
From then on, All the people of Ironhold knew that fortune telling and praying for rain were just elaborate scams! If you are so skilled at fortune telling, can you pray for rain?"
Henrik spoke with one accusation after another.
His lackeys also followed suit immediately.
"This guy actually said that he could predict the bandit's hideout by fortune telling. Haha, this really makes people laugh someone stop me, I think I might die from laughing!"
"You can even use an excuse like fortune telling to fool people! I think Young Master Henrik is right! This guy is an accomplice of the bandits!"
"Since you are so good at fortune telling, can you tell us when it will rain in Ironhold?"
Everyone frowned, and they all felt that Alex's words were far too mysterious and unbelievable.
The three year drought in Ironhold had taught many people not to believe in fortune telling and rain prayers!
If only someone could actually do this, then Ironhold would have already successfully prayed for rain!
"Oh no, Brother Alex, you cannot use this excuse. Anything else but this."
Nathan was deeply anxious.
Ironhold had suffered a drought for three years, and many people in the city had already seen through the tricks of witches and fraudulent fortune tellers.
They did not believe in these mysterious things at all and could even be said to be disgusted by them.
Every time they spent so much money and had so many expectations, these so-called fortune tellers could not even pray for rain. How could they not be disgusted and angry with them?
Sheriff Bowen frowned deeply and said seriously, "Young Master Alex, did you really divine the location of the bandit's hideout through fortune telling? This statement is far too ridiculous. If you cannot give us a convincing reason, then we can only ask Young Master Alex to accompany us to the government office for further questioning."
Originally, he had many positive impressions of Alex before this after all it is rare to have such a talent in the city.
But as Alex came up with the absurd reason of fortune telling, these good impressions vanished at once.
However, the next moment, Alex's answer spoke of itself and whatever he said shocked everyone present!
