Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Appearance of Yakushi Kabuto and the Cursed Naruto
Sasuke, Naruto, and the others were hiding inside a hollowed-out tree. However, outside their hideout, Yakushi Kabuto stood silently, watching Sasuke with a calculating gaze.
"This doesn't add up," Kabuto thought, adjusting his glasses with a deliberate motion. "Wasn't Sasuke supposed to be the sole target of this mission? Why has Naruto also fallen victim to the cursed seal?"
Kabuto's thoughts raced as he contemplated Orochimaru's plan. "Is this part of a broader strategy? Could this be an attempt to utilize the powers of the One-Tailed Shukaku and the Nine-Tailed Fox together? Is Lord Orochimaru planning to destroy Konoha entirely this time?"
A sinister light gleamed in Kabuto's glasses as he considered the possibilities. "No matter," he thought coldly. "I'll need to test the power of the Nine-Tails first."
Kabuto began to move, intending to lure his enemies into a trap. His strategy as a spy was always to remain in the shadows, manipulating events without revealing his hand. But just as he was about to take his first step, a voice erupted from the nearby bushes.
"Fire Style: Impatient Flower Technique!"
Kabuto barely had time to react as an attack came hurtling toward him. "What? A shadow clone?!" he exclaimed, narrowly dodging. To his shock, Sasuke emerged from the shadows, launching another assault.
"Hmph," Sasuke sneered, his Sharingan spinning. "You're no innocent bystander, Kabuto. Dropping your act and going straight for our scrolls? I won't let you get away with it."
Kabuto raised his hands defensively, his glasses gleaming. "Wait, Sasuke. You've got the wrong idea! I'm not your enemy!" he protested.
"Enough lies!" Sasuke's clone retorted, delivering a swift kick enhanced by the Konoha Tornado technique.
Kabuto sidestepped the attack, but his expression grew grim. "Why is Sasuke using shadow clones? This doesn't align with any intelligence I've gathered..."
Kabuto's thoughts were interrupted when he suddenly sensed the presence of another shadow clone outside the hideout. "Enemy attack! Sakura, protect Naruto!" the clone shouted as it prepared to engage Kabuto.
"Got it!" Sakura replied, drawing a kunai. Her eyes darted around warily, scanning the area for additional threats. She knew Kabuto wouldn't act alone.
"Sasuke, listen to me!" Kabuto yelled, trying to maintain his charade. "I'm not here to hurt you!"
But Sasuke's shadow clone wouldn't be swayed. It lunged forward again, its feet barely touching the ground. Kabuto sighed in frustration, realizing negotiations were pointless. Chakra flared in his hands, the sharp green glow of his Palm Sage Jutsu ready to sever nerves.
Just as Kabuto's hand struck, Sasuke's body exploded in a puff of smoke. "Another shadow clone?" Kabuto muttered, scanning the area. "Then where's the real one?"
Before he could find an answer, Kabuto's keen senses detected a disturbance behind him. Chakra exploded underfoot as Sasuke's second clone launched another attack. Though Kabuto was quick, his opponent's coordination, enhanced by the Sharingan, made the battle far more challenging than he had anticipated.
After several exchanges, Kabuto managed to eliminate the second clone with a precise strike to the neck. But his frustration mounted. "How is he stalling me so effectively with mere clones?" Kabuto mused.
He glanced toward the tree hollow where Naruto and Sakura remained hidden. Sakura's face was pale, and her hands gripped her kunai tightly. Despite her fear, she remained alert, prepared to defend her teammates.
"Sakura," Kabuto began, his voice calm and calculated as he stepped closer. "I don't mean any harm. I only want to talk."
Sakura's grip tightened. She wasn't about to let her guard down, especially not after what she had witnessed.
Suddenly, Kabuto flinched as three water needles shot toward him, narrowly grazing his face. His glasses cracked from the impact as he retreated, eyes narrowing.
"Water Style: Crying Needle Technique?" Kabuto muttered, genuinely surprised. He hadn't expected Sakura to know ninjutsu, let alone launch such a precise attack.
"Don't even think about escaping!" Sakura yelled, throwing a kunai toward Kabuto.
But Kabuto was faster. In a blur of motion, he closed the distance between them, blocking her strike and delivering a calculated blow to her arms.
Sakura cried out as her arms went limp. Kabuto had used his Palm Sage Jutsu to temporarily disable her nerves. "Your arms will be paralyzed for about an hour," he explained, his tone almost gentle. "Now, let's have a proper discussion, shall we?"
Sakura glared at him. "If you're here for the scroll, take it!" she spat, kicking a decoy scroll toward him. "Sasuke will be back any moment now, and when he is, you'll regret this!"
Kabuto chuckled, picking up the scroll without a hint of concern. "Oh, Sakura," he said, shaking his head. "You think a single genin can intimidate me? I'm not here for the scroll. I'm here for Naruto."
At the mention of Naruto, Kabuto's expression grew darker. He turned his attention to the unconscious boy lying a few feet away. The cursed seal on Naruto's body was beginning to react, pulsing ominously.
"So this is the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki…" Kabuto murmured, his voice filled with a mix of awe and curiosity. "Let's see how his body reacts to the cursed seal..."
"Stay away from him!" Sakura screamed, trying to move despite her paralysis.
Kabuto ignored her protests, reaching for Naruto. But just as his hand came close, a violent burst of crimson chakra erupted from Naruto's body. The sheer force of it sent Kabuto flying backward, crashing into the hollowed tree.
"What is this power?!" Kabuto gasped, staring at Naruto in shock.
Naruto slowly stood, his once-blue eyes now replaced by the menacing red of the Nine-Tails. The cursed seal's markings spread across his body, merging with the demonic chakra swirling around him.
"Sakura," Naruto said, his voice low and guttural. "Thank you for waking me up. I won't let anyone hurt you."
Sakura's eyes widened as she took in Naruto's transformed state. The boy she knew was almost unrecognizable, consumed by the monstrous power of the Nine-Tails.
Kabuto's expression hardened. "So this is the power of the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki," he muttered. "Lord Orochimaru was right to take an interest in him."
Naruto's chakra lashed out like a whip, carving deep gashes into the ground as the oppressive aura filled the forest.
"Come at me!" Naruto roared, his voice echoing with raw fury.
Kabuto hesitated. Despite his extensive experience as a spy and combatant, the sheer magnitude of Naruto's power left him momentarily paralyzed.
"I can't afford to be reckless," Kabuto thought, retreating a few steps. "This isn't the time to face him head-on. I need to regroup and reassess the situation."
But Naruto wasn't about to let him escape. With a feral growl, he lunged forward, his claws swiping at Kabuto with deadly precision.
Kabuto dodged narrowly, his glasses glinting in the dim light. "This boy... He's a monster!" he muttered under his breath.
The battle raged on, with Naruto's unrelenting attacks forcing Kabuto into a defensive stance. Sakura watched helplessly, her heart pounding as the once-laughing, cheerful Naruto unleashed his fury.
Meanwhile, Sasuke, who had been monitoring the situation from a distance, finally arrived at the scene. His Sharingan activated as he took in the chaos before him.
"Naruto…" Sasuke whispered, his eyes narrowing. "What have you become?"
