Chapter 133: The Final Confrontation
The day had been relatively calm, almost too calm. Dakota spent most of it with his friends, enjoying their company as they hung out in their usual spots. The group was scattered across the familiar woods: Michael, Mila, and the others laughing together near the creek, while Henry, Lucas, and the others were off to the side, deep in discussion. Despite the tension hanging just below the surface, Dakota appreciated the rare moment of peace. But something in his gut told him it wouldn't last long.
As Dakota sat with Michael and the rest, chatting aimlessly, his phone buzzed in his pocket. At first, he tried to ignore it, but when the vibration came again, he reluctantly pulled it out. The moment he saw the message on the screen, his heart stopped.
Text Message: "Come here. We're finishing this once and for all."
The Dark Mages. Dakota's blood ran cold. He shoved his phone back into his pocket, his mind racing. The Dark Mages had been quiet for a while, but now, they were ready to strike again. He knew he couldn't face them alone. And he couldn't just go running off to battle without involving the others—especially the ones who already knew the stakes.
Dakota stood up, trying to appear as calm as possible, but his thoughts were already on the next steps.
Dakota: "Hey, I need to talk to Henry and the others for a minute. Stay here, I'll be right back."
Michael and the others barely had time to react, absorbed in their own conversation. Mila, noticing his abrupt departure, called out to him.
Mila: "What's wrong? You look like something's on your mind."
Dakota: "It's nothing. Just need to take care of something real quick. Stay here."
He gave them a reassuring smile, but even he could tell it wasn't convincing. They didn't know the whole truth about the situation. Dakota knew that telling them now would only create unnecessary panic. He just had to handle it quietly, without alarming them too much.
As Dakota made his way through the woods, his footsteps were quick but careful. He had to find Henry, Lucas, and the others before it was too late. His phone buzzed again, but he ignored it this time, not wanting to get distracted.
When he reached the others—Henry, Lucas, Liam, Ava, Amelia,Mia,jack, and Luna—he found them sitting together, their usual lively chatter silenced as they noticed his presence.
Henry: "Dakota, what's up? You look like something's come up."
Dakota couldn't keep the urgency out of his voice.
Dakota: "The Dark Mages just sent me a message. They want to finish this once and for all."
There was a brief silence as the words sank in. Henry's eyes narrowed, and the rest of the group exchanged glances. They had all been through this before, and they knew exactly what the Dark Mages were capable of.
Lucas: "What are we going to do about it?"
Dakota: "We can't wait around. We need to move fast, and we need to be ready. They're not going to stop until they get what they want."
Ava stood up, her face resolute.
Ava: "So we fight them. Simple enough."
Liam: "We've been through worse. We can handle this."
Mia was quiet for a moment, clearly deep in thought. When she finally spoke, her voice was steady but cautious.
Mia: "But we can't do this alone. We need more people. We need everyone involved."
Dakota nodded, agreeing with her.
Dakota: "Exactly. That's why I need your help. But I can't explain everything right now. We need to bring the others in, but we can't tell them the whole truth just yet. Trust me, they'll understand when it's time."
Henry looked at Dakota, assessing him. He knew that Dakota wasn't one to ask for help unless it was absolutely necessary.
Henry: "You're right. We can't let them go in blind. We need to get them ready. Let's go talk to them."
Dakota hesitated for a moment, glancing back toward where the others were.
Dakota: "I'll go to them. Just… stay here, keep yourselves ready."
Henry nodded, and without further discussion, Dakota made his way back to where the others were still hanging out. He could feel his heart racing as he approached them. Michael, Mila, Ethan, Alex, and Emily were still in the same spot, but now, the air seemed heavier, more charged with the looming confrontation.
As Dakota approached, he made sure to mask his urgency. He didn't want to alarm them yet.
Dakota: "Hey, I need your help with something. It's important, and we don't have much time."
They all stopped talking when they saw the expression on his face. There was no joke in his tone, no usual sarcasm or ease. Emily was the first to speak, her brow furrowed in concern.
Emily: "What's going on, Dakota? You're scaring us."
Dakota took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. He couldn't tell them everything—not yet. They didn't need to know the truth. Since they're only illusions.
Dakota: "There's a situation I need to deal with. Something dangerous. But I can't do it alone. I need you all with me."
Michael raised an eyebrow, clearly puzzled.
Michael: "What do you mean? What kind of situation?"
Dakota paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts. He couldn't say too much. But he had to convince them. He had to make them see that they were needed.
Dakota: "I'm asking for your help because we're facing something serious. We've all fought together before, but this is different. If we don't act now, it could be too late for everyone."
Mila looked at him, her expression softening.
Mila: "You're being cryptic, but if you say it's important, we're with you. We trust you."
Ethan nodded, his usual carefree demeanor replaced by a rare seriousness.
Alex crossed his arms, his usual skepticism apparent but outweighed by his loyalty.
Alex: "I don't know what's going on, but if you need us, we're here."
Dakota exhaled in relief. They didn't know the full story, but they were ready. And that was all that mattered.
Dakota: "Alright. Just stay close. We'll explain more when we're all together, but right now, we need to go. It's time."
---
When they reached Henry, Lucas, and the others, Dakota gave a single nod.
Dakota: "We're ready."
The group stood together, united for what lay ahead. They didn't know the full extent of the danger, but they knew they couldn't turn back. Not now.
And so, as the sun began to set behind them, the final confrontation loomed ever closer. The Dark Mages were waiting, and Dakota wasn't about to let them win.
