Chapter 108: Frost Nova

The chamber seethed with oppressive heat, the Djinn's molten form radiating waves of fiery energy that warped the air into shimmering mirages. Each breath felt like inhaling fire, each step a test of endurance.

Lucas stood at the forefront, his frost magic swirling around him like a protective cocoon. The others watched from a safe distance, their magic nearly drained from the relentless battle.

Ava (grimacing): "This thing just keeps coming back! How do we even stop something like this?"

Henry (wiping sweat from his brow): "We've thrown everything we have at it. Nothing's working!"

The Djinn let out a guttural roar, molten lava spilling from its form as it pounded its massive fists into the ground. The resulting shockwave sent cracks racing across the floor, forcing the group to scatter.

Lucas's frost-covered fingers twitched, his expression unreadable. He didn't flinch as the heat intensified around him. Instead, he took a step forward, his boots crunching against the rapidly spreading cracks.

Lucas (calmly): "We're not going to win by outlasting it. We need to end this now."

Luna (skeptical): "And what exactly is your plan? Freeze a living volcano? That's not exactly a winning strategy."

Lucas (smirking): "It is if you're me."

The Djinn turned its fiery gaze toward Lucas, sensing the threat. With a deafening roar, it unleashed a torrent of molten lava in his direction. Lucas raised his hand, summoning a massive ice wall that surged upward to meet the attack. The lava collided with the frost in an explosion of steam, the hiss and crackle of opposing elements filling the air.

Ava (shielding her eyes): "Lucas, are you crazy? That thing will burn right through your ice!"

Lucas (through gritted teeth): "Let it try."

The frost barrier held against the onslaught, steam swirling around Lucas like a shroud. He pushed his magic further, spreading a layer of frost across the ground, inching closer to the Djinn.

Henry (watching in disbelief): "He's actually doing it… He's freezing the floor!"

The Djinn roared in frustration, its molten limbs cracking against the encroaching frost. It swung one massive arm toward Lucas, aiming to crush him.

Liam (shouting): "Lucas, look out!"

Lucas darted to the side, skating along the icy path he created beneath his feet. His movements were fluid and precise, his frost trailing behind him in intricate patterns.

Lucas (muttering to himself): "If I can freeze its base, I can keep it still long enough for the others to hit its core."

He slammed his hands into the ground, frost spreading rapidly. The ice climbed up the Djinn's legs, locking them in place. The creature thrashed, molten lava spilling from its body as it struggled against the frost.

Lucas (shouting): "Now! Hit it with everything you've got!"

The team responded instantly. Ava conjured a torrent of water, dousing the creature's fiery exterior. Liam's lightning crackled across its surface, while Amelia's light arrows pierced the molten core. The Djinn staggered, its fiery glow flickering as the frost crept further up its body.

Ava (grinning): "It's working! We're actually slowing it down!"

But the victory was short-lived. With a furious roar, the Djinn unleashed a wave of molten energy that shattered the ice around its legs and sent the team flying backward. Lucas was thrown against the wall, the impact knocking the air from his lungs.

Luna (panicking): "Lucas! Are you okay?"

He groaned, forcing himself to his feet. Frost clung to his clothes and hair, and his breathing was labored. But his eyes burned with determination.

Lucas (grimly): "I'm fine. But we're not done yet."

The Djinn loomed over him, its molten fists raised to deliver the final blow. Lucas didn't flinch. Instead, he extended his hands, summoning a swirling vortex of icy energy.

Lucas (muttering): "This is going to hurt…"

The frost around him condensed, forming a radiant sphere of pure icy magic in his hands. The temperature in the room plummeted, frost creeping across the walls and ceiling.

Henry (wide-eyed): "Lucas, what are you doing? You'll freeze yourself too!"

Lucas (smirking faintly): "Better me than all of us."

The Djinn lunged, its molten body cracking and flickering as it neared him. Lucas thrust the sphere into the ground with all his remaining strength.

Lucas (shouting): "Frost Nova!"

The explosion of frost was instantaneous. A shockwave of icy energy erupted outward, freezing everything in its path. The lava flows solidified into jagged black ice, and the Djinn's molten form crystallized mid-roar. Its fiery core dimmed as the frost consumed it, leaving behind a glistening ice sculpture.

The chamber fell silent, the oppressive heat replaced by an eerie cold. Steam hissed faintly from the cracks in the frozen ground, and the frost clung to every surface.

Lucas fell to his knees, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

Ava (running to him): "Lucas! Are you okay? Say something!"

Lucas (smirking weakly): "Cold… but alive. Looks like it worked."

The others gathered around, their expressions a mix of relief and awe.

Liam (shaking his head): "You froze the entire room. That's insane."

Luna: "Insane doesn't even begin to cover it."

Lucas pushed himself to his feet, leaning heavily on Ava for support. He turned to the frozen remains of the Djinn, its once-molten body now a glistening monument to his magic.

Lucas (quietly): "You didn't stand a chance."

Beyond the chamber, Dakota's voice echoed faintly, his tone contemplative.

Dakota (murmuring to himself): "Lucas… all of you remind me of my friends from my past life. I keep wondering—are they your reincarnations, or is this just fate playing games with me again? Either way, I'll find out one day. And when I do… I'll either gain everything or lose it all."

The frost-covered chamber began to shift, signaling the challenge was over. But the team's victory was short-lived as their next trial loomed ahead.

---

The frozen chamber dissolved into the shadowy depths of Dakota's battlefield. The air here was thick with malice, the faint hum of dark magic resonating through the stone walls.

Dakota stood tall, his expression unreadable as he faced the dark mage.

Dark Mage (mocking): "Impressive. Your friends might have scraped through their little test, but they're not here now, are they? Let's see how well you do on your own."

Dakota (smirking): "ha scraped through? My friends didn't even use half of their powers, if they did they would have defeated the Djinn instantly."

Dark mage: "wha- no you must be kidding, there is no way you guys are this strong when you're not even adults yet."

Dakota: no trust me we are, and the reason they didn't use they're full powers, are because I told them to use their full power only when I gave them permission. And I won't even need half of my power to defeat you."

The dark mage's eyes narrowed, his staff glowing with an ominous black light.

Dark Mage: "Confident, aren't you? Let's see how long that lasts."

He unleashed a torrent of shadow magic, the dark energy coiling like snakes as it surged toward Dakota. Dakota countered with a blazing strike of pure energy, the two forces colliding in a dazzling explosion of light and shadow.
