Chapter 35: God of Thunder
Darius staggered, blood pouring from his mouth. The spear in his hand was broken, the blade shattered beyond recognition. His breathing was labored, but his eyes still burned with desperate determination.
"I... can still fight," he whispered, his hands trembling with pain.
Slowly, he rose to his feet, his body covered in wounds, but his roar echoed throughout the battlefield:
"I WILL KILL YOU, NIEL!!!"
Suddenly, Darius thrust the remains of his spear straight through his own heart.
ZRAAAAAKKKK!!!
Lightning struck from the sky, enveloping his body. A scream of pain mixed with wild power exploded from his chest. Blinding blue light engulfed the field, causing the ground around him to crack.
From within the lightning storm, Darius's body began to transform. His muscles bulged, veins glowed electric blue, and his eyes became two orbs of light. The broken spear fused with his body, transforming into a branching arm of lightning that radiated destructive energy.
A wild lightning aura rumbled, causing every drop of rain to instantly evaporate into steam.
"A very interesting technique," I said with a sadistic smile, my eyes staring at the transformation with curiosity.
Elrodan and Garruk, who had been lying on the ground, immediately widened their eyes. They slowly got up, their auras flaring. They knew it wasn't just any technique. It was Darius's ultimate weapon—a suicide technique fused with the ancestral spear to unleash the power of the lightning of the gods.
"He actually used [NAIBATA LONGGUR]," Elrodan muttered, his face tense. "The ancestral spear's lightning-inherited technique... can only be used once in a lifetime."
"If he fails to defeat Niel, his life is over," Garruk added gravely.
Darius shot forward, his body now covered in lightning. Each step left a blue flash that shattered the ground beneath him.
ZRAK! ZRAK! ZRAK!
Attack after attack slammed into me, lightning cracking the air with each spear strike. But my body was used to such incredible speed.
My hands moved quickly to block each thrust. Occasionally, I would deliberately absorb the attack, letting the lightning burn my skin—charred skin peeling off, the smell of ozone stinging my nostrils, the burning sensation like thousands of needles piercing every inch of my body—and then retaliate with a counterpunch.
"You're so slow, Darius," I said sarcastically, a smile spreading across my face even though my skin was still smoking. "Lightning is just light that quickly fades."
Darius roared, increasing his speed and power. But each blow only made me more excited.
Meanwhile, Elrodan and Garruk didn't stand still. They charged from the sides, trying to close the gap in my defense. But before they could get close—
CLANG! CLASH!
Rena appeared, her two blades of darkness clashing with Elrodan's holy sword and Garruk's great axe. Her movements were agile and brutal, forcing both of them to withstand her frenzied attacks.
However, the combined attacks of Elrodan and Garruk began to pressure Rena. The holy light and the barbaric power of the axe created explosions every time they met her blades. Rena's body staggered, glowing cuts burning across her arms and abdomen.
"Khkhh!" Rena groaned, black blood dripping onto the ground. But her eyes still burned with rage.
Garruk chuckled, his deep voice echoing in the air.
"I will kill you, little girl," he said, raising his giant axe, ready to cleave Rena in two.
Rena's attacks accelerated, her two swords dancing like dark shadows, raining down relentless slashes on Garruk. The metallic clang continued, CLANG! CLASH!, each impact sending sparks and bursts of dark aura filling the air.
In a flash, Rena's left sword sliced deep into Garruk's thigh, making him howl in pain. But the moment was short-lived—Garruk only grew more furious, his giant axe spinning wildly, splitting the ground with each strike, its power only increasing with rage.
Meanwhile, Elrodan took a few steps back, his remaining hand raised, spells of light escaping his mouth. Arrows of holy energy shot toward Rena, forcing her to become more defensive. Their combined attacks began to press back, forcing Rena to parry them with blood continuing to flow from her wounds.
I glanced at him, my face turning cold. If this continued, Rena would lose. I had to end Darius faster.
I lashed out with a punch filled with dark aura, but Darius was different.
His body was now completely enveloped in pure lightning. Every time I struck him, the energy seemed to merge with him, making him stronger. Blow after blow we collided.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The shockwaves from our attacks shattered the ground and buildings around us.
I began to feel the difference. My blows, which usually shattered bones, now felt like they were hitting a wall of ever-hardening lightning. In contrast, Darius's attacks were getting faster and heavier, each blow making my arms tremble.
My brow furrowed. This wasn't even anymore; the longer he fought, the more his power increased.
I took a deep breath, the dark aura in my body growing more and more frenzied. Cracks appeared in the ground beneath my feet, dense energy pulsing like the heart of hell.
"No, it's time for us to get serious," I said coldly.
"Yes, My Lord," replied the deep voice from the gauntlet, resonating with power.
My hands shook violently, my gauntlet emitting a black, rainbow-tinged light. Every time I swung my fist, the air around me shattered like glass under a hammer.
My attacks came faster, heavier—and this time Darius couldn't keep up. His spear blocked one blow, but the blade snapped in half.
His eyes widened. "N-No way—"
I closed the distance in an instant, smashing my right fist into his stomach with a power-packed punch.
[BOOST]
BOOOM!
Darius's body lifted off the ground, flying back dozens of meters before crashing into the ruins of a stone house. Blood spurted from his mouth, his breath ragged.
I didn't pause. My hand shot up, the dark dragon's aura forming a giant shadow behind me.
[DRAGON SHOT]
A giant black dragon shot out from my fist, its jaws opening, a blast of pure energy aimed straight at Darius.
CRAAAKK—BOOMMM!!!
The explosion shook the entire village, flames of darkness engulfing the area for dozens of meters. From within the resulting crater, Darius's final screams echoed—a voice that slowly faded until it was lost forever. Black smoke billowed, leaving a charred, almost shapeless body in the center of the gaping crater.
What had once been a peaceful village was now a sea of craters and rubble. The ground was shattered, buildings flattened with dust, and the air was thick with black smoke mixed with the smell of blood and burning metal.
I stood still amid the destruction, my gaze fixed on the largest crater—making sure that Darius was truly dead.
Soft footsteps sounded from behind me.
Tap… tap…
Rena limped along, her body covered in wounds, her dark armor cracked in numerous places. Her breathing was heavy, her eyes filled with exhaustion. She stopped beside me and knelt with one knee to the ground.
I turned my head slightly, my face remaining cold. My hands rose, a gentle dark aura surrounding Rena's wounds, slowly healing them—but my expression remained unwavering.
"Rena, you're still too weak."
With a hoarse voice, Rena lowered her head even lower.
"Forgive me, My Lord, I've disappointed you."
