I Know the Secret to Surpass Level 100

Chapter 550: Lightbulbs from Hell

A single light in hell is called a lightbulb. It started with fragments of crushed luminescent rocks that they used to power the bulbs. Hell had its way to work with bright lights because the realm was naturally dark.

"A brief history of our advances in light," Barbara said. "But considering Hell has the more calm people unlike the Behemoths below, so we have brighter and advance technologies."

"In the Den, light is shown as weakness," Dante said. "When someone likes bright lights, they are shunned and are always displayed as the weaker members of the group. They couldn't live proper lives after that."

"How could you see if bright is frowned upon?" Elliot couldn't help but ask. "I couldn't even imagine how life is without light."

"We tolerate torches," Dante said. "But bright lights are never allowed, especially in the royal family."

"We have to use miniature torches, ones that are just a shy larger than a match stick," Irus sighed as he recalled. "And even then when we use those, we get scolded. I don't even know how the Forsaken sees in the dark."

"That's not right," Elliot said. "How could you do your day to day activities when there's no light?"

"As hellish as it sounds, Elliot, you also have to understand that we need to get used to the darkness," Irus said. "There are many of those who wanted to kill us, so we have to adapt to the darkness. Light would hinder that adaptive process if we are used to bright areas."

Elliot nodded in understanding. It made sense for them to get used to the darkness or they have to suffer the consequences of fighting without any proper vision.

The group was silent for a few seconds after that. Only when Barbara cheered that they have arrived is when the group spoke.

"Welcome to where the magic happens," Barbara led the group to her workshop which was right behind the display area of her store.

The walls were made of dark blue bricks that had frames of different pieces of the lightbulb. The origin of the marvelous creation was honored greatly in Barbara's worshop halls. There were the first prototypes of lightbulb that she framed and all of them had dates on them, marking the day she tested the product.

Overall, Elliot was satisfied with the workshop. It wasn't like what he thought, but more like Francoise's blacksmithing shop only it had lightbulbs instead of weapons.

"The first step into making a lightbulb is the source," Barbara said. She stood in front of a table with materials laid in front of her. "These rocks here are crushed luminescent rocks. They serve as our first source of light and if they run out of power, we can charge them up."

"Charge them?" Lance asked, intrigued. He placed a finger under his chin as he watched Barbara pour some of the dusted rocks inside a small metal box where it had a special lid. She then took one thin strip of spring-like metal and then placed it on the special cover of the metal box.

"This thin metal is the rod that will project the light," Barbara said. "It has the properties that is similar to the luminescent rocks, but it's metal and are hardly found anywhere. It's quite expensive."

Barbara took a spherical glass with a square rim opening. It fit perfectly on the box that had the rod and the dusted rocks. When the gadget was assembled, the woman pressed the button on the box and light shone from the rod.

"This button opens up the area where the dusted luminescent rocks and the rod meet," Barbara said. "When they meet, the magic from the rocks would seep out of he rod and then light would be conjured."

"But you told us something about recharging," Elliot asked. "How do you do that?"

"Bioluminescence has appeared in the darkness for several different reasons," Barbara muttered. "We don't have an inch of an idea how magic made this happen, but we just use them for different purposes. Some bioluminescence has glowing rocks and some have infinite bright caves where rocks seep out power."

"When the rocks would die out, we go to those caves that are now known as charging stations," Barbara said. "We simply have to charge our lights there and it will be good as new."

"Your technology heavily relied on your situation and your materials that you used here," Elliot sighed. "I don't know how to use these when we don't have caves or rocks on our realm."

"Why don't I come with you?" Barbara asked. "I could always ask for your talented artisans. I invented the lightbulb after all."

"Oh, I forgot to mention," Dante smirked. "Barbara here is the most talented creator in Hell. She created lightbulbs and has the brightest lightbulbs in the realm."

Ed gulped. "And you want to come with us? A pretty woman like you? Come with us? Into another realm?"

Barabara was indeed pretty. She had long blonde hair that reached to her lower back. Her skin was fare and pinkish, much like a porcelain doll. Her beauty was ethereal and it was a sight to behold.

"Err," Barbara shrugged. "It's always fun to explore new places. After all, I'm a fun-loving guy."

"Guy?" Elliot's face fell. "Y-You..."

"Oh, no!" Ed gasped. "Midnight effect!"

The group laughed at Ed as he dramatically touched his chest and fake sobbed. "Just when I thought that I found the most beautiful woman I see in the world, she's not a woman."

"No, I mean I'm a guy before but a cave turned me into a woman," Barbara muttered. "I was Barbos before. It was when I invited the light bulbs and created this factory and my empire."

"She explored a cave before," Dante chuckled. "We're actually friends since, but then she became a she and it was too awkward for me."

"A gender bender," Ed narrowed his eyes at Dante. "You didn't touch her, did you?"

Dante raised his hands in surrender, then laughed. "Of course, not. Barbara is more powerful than me in terms of physical strength. She would kill me if I lay my hands on her."
