Chapter 526: Midnight vs Famine
Famine's eyes bulged out of their sockets as he felt the impact from the staff. She was blown a couple of meters back, rolled on the roof, and landed on the area where she cast her skill before.
The area that she landed on was rotten. The roof lost the strength to hold on to her and she fell through it, screaming as she did.
"That was amazing, Alice," Gasha laughed. "You really are strong."
Alice cleared her throat and laughed awkwardly, "You still have the most powerful raw strength, so that was nothing."
As they laughed at each other, they slowly turned to Elliot who was watching the both of them.
"Don't you think you have somewhere else to be at?" Gasha growled. "Go. Now."
Contrary to what they think, Elliot wasn't looking at them because he was impressed. He always knew that Alice had some strength in her, it was because of what Alice said.
If Gasha had the highest raw strength among all Adventurers, then why did they send him instead of her? This task would be much easier for her.
Shaking the thoughts away, Elliot stood and ran to the bell tower as much as he can. He already took his time while he was under Famine's trance. He cannot delay much longer.
"As if I'd let you live after what you just did to me," Famine yelled as she crawled from the hole that she fell through of.
Alice and Gasha could only gasp after they saw her true form. The once beautiful woman was a walking lump of rotting flesh. Her face was showing her skull, barren of any skin and flesh.
Her once luscious hair was nothing but a few strands after the rest fell to the ground. And finally, the once plump chest she was so proud of was nothing but a saggy pair of sadness.
"That's your boobs?" Alice snorted. "Those look like they're deflated balloons."
Famine screeched. "Know your place, human. You made me look like this. So, take responsibility and die!"
Famine fired her dark green mist at them. Only this time, she formed them into several vortexes so they could target them easier.
"I hate this look," Famine growled. "I've always hated how I looked. This look is what I was born in, and I always hated it!"
"Chill," Gasha muttered while dodging the attacks. "Why are you so mad at us?"
"Because you're both so beautiful," Famine sobbed. "Why can't I be beautiful like you?"
"You already are," Midnight said. He appeared beside Famine and kneeled by her side. "It turns out, I just needed the time to recover and get used to the cells. Now I'm okay."
Famine looked up and saw Midnight. "Y-You're the most beautiful woman I saw in my life."
Alice and Gasha could only deadpan as Midnight clenched his fist and threw a punch right at Famine's face. He straddled over her and continued to deal punches. The two women had to drag him away from Famine, seeing how much damage he had caused in just under a minute of being there,
"Who's the woman?" Midnight said with a bright smile. "I'm only a believer of true gender equality. Don't think a man like me couldn't hit an ugly woman like you, alright?"
Famine watched the darkening skies. It was about to rain. She smiled and sighed. "The Forsaken has never once told me that I was beautiful."
"Because you're not," Midnight giggled, as if his insult was a compliment.
"I know," Famine smiled. She didn't have any eyelids, but she had small muscles underneath her skull. It closed down on her eyes as she took a deep breath. "This is the end."
There was silence for a couple of seconds. Alice was about to walk towards Famine to check on her when Famine's eyes suddenly opened.
"What?" Alice gasped but it was too late.
Famine turned to her and their gazes locked at each other. "This is the end, but not for me."
A sudden burst of a surging feeling filled the air. It covered the entire region, causing everyone to lose their focus and a lot of them to vomit.
"What is this?" Midnight muttered. "I feel hungry but at the same time disgusted."
"You are feeling the power that was bestowed upon me by the Forsaken," Famine said. "You shall experience neglect, disgust, and famine. And I will rule over everything in this realm."
A pair of dark green hands grew from her back. It pushed her off of the ground and made her stand on her own two feet. The hands were long and abnormally looking.
"Beauty will rot," Famine said. "But despair will not."
She walked towards the heavily weakened Midnight and clashed her feet on the latter's stomach. "Am I ugly? Yes, I am."
She sent Midnight to roll to the roof several meters back, just like what happened to her. She then sprinted towards Midnight and crashed her foot on Midnight's right leg, causing him to scream in pain.
"You're beautiful, so you wouldn't know the feeling," Famine said. "All I ever wanted was to be a beautiful woman just like you."
"She didn't learn her lesson," Alice said as she puked on the side.
The words triggered Midnight. All the feelings that he felt just a few moments ago vanished like nothing. He stood upright and faced the grotesque-looking Guard.
Meanwhile, back on the ground, Leviathan watched the fight on the roof.
"Midnight seems to lose control more often," Galaxia said to him. "He would just grit his teeth before and clench his fist, but he never was this violent."
"Perhaps because I'm not inside him anymore to stop the surge of his powers," Leviathan sighed. "I would stop him from attacking by limiting all his energy. But now, he can do things freely."
The magic that Famine cast upon them only lasted for a few moments because Leviathan cast an altar that absorbed the magic.
"Midnight can now do as he pleases," Leviathan said as they watched Famine being thrown to the skies by a punch from Midnight. "Things like that."
–
"You're okay?" Famine gasp in shock as she was being blown to the skies by Midnight's fury. "How is that possible?"
"I am not a woman," Midnight whispered. "My fears would still haunt me to this day. Their painful punishment, their harsh words. Leviathan was keeping me back from acting on my emotions, but now that he's not in me, I can do what I can."
"What are you talking about?" Famine yelled. She regained her composure and landed safely on the roof. She raised her hands and fired several vortexes at Midnight. "You're crazy. How can you be a man when you're that beautiful?"
"His control over me was gone," Midnight closed his eyes and gathered the energy to morph. "So I don't have to control myself anymore. Forsaken."
It was as if Famine saw both glory and horror as Midnight shifted forms. He regained his Forsaken form and stood right in front of Famine.
"T-The Forsaken," Famine stuttered. She fell to her knees and lowered her head in respect. She felt fear as the surging aura wrapped around her like a cold blanket. "How can you be here?"
