Chapter 293: Run, the lion is going to eat us!
When it was time to sneak away, the two little lolitas murmured to each other and chased after!
"Brother Fang Ye, wait for us!"
Fang Ye asked gently, "Don't you want to watch the little bears anymore?"
Qian Keke chuckled, "Although the little bears are cute, I'm more interested in seeing you stroke lions and tigers!"
Fang Ye couldn't help but laugh, finding the child's honesty endearing.
He said offhandedly, "It depends on the situation, I don't necessarily stroke lions and tigers every time."
Lions and tigers were already very popular, and if he went in and played with them, the visitors would be even less interested in the other animals.
He hoped that visitors would pay more attention to the other "ordinary" animals, as after all, the zoo is an institution with educational purposes.
In fact, there's no such thing as an ordinary animal; isn't every species a masterpiece of nature, and don't their experiences of survival and reproduction make up a fascinating and substantial history? However, there is indeed a difference in the eyes of humans, where star animals like tigers and pandas are a bit more popular.
Therefore, in conservation biology, these "high-value" species are referred to as "flagship species," serving as symbols and emblems of conservation projects, attracting more public attention to ecological issues and encouraging involvement in conservation efforts.
Fang Ye hoped that through the design of the exhibits and publicity, he could gradually influence visitors to develop a taste, so that after they grew fond of star animals, they would also show some interest in the "ordinary" animals, discover the beauty of every species, and recognize their ecological value. Many animals, originally overlooked and nearly invisible, have only become the focus of attention after facing extinction crises and receiving continuous promotion, such as the crested ibis and the pangolin.
He was a bit of an idealist, otherwise, with the zoo's conditions, by adding more entertainment facilities, raising ticket prices, spending money on online promotions, and proactively seeking partnerships with tourism groups to attract visitors from afar, the zoo's income would definitely be much higher.
Money is indeed important, but it should not be the sole pursuit.
Tang Xiaoxin asked again, "Brother Fang Ye, why don't the two little bears play together?"
Fang Ye shrugged and said, "Well, because these two little bears came from different zoos, they aren't very familiar with each other yet, and they fight in their enclosure. They don't get along too well, let alone play together."
Tang Xiaoxin exclaimed in surprise, "Ah?"
She had never thought that such cute little bears would fight!
Fang Ye smiled, "It's nothing serious when little bears scrap, their teeth and claws are not fully developed, so the damage isn't too severe. Given some time together to get acquainted, they should be able to play together eventually. It's a gradual process of adaptation."
…
Arriving at the lion exhibit!
As soon as they entered, Tang Xiaoxin and the others saw a crowd of visitors gathered around the glass curtain wall and curiously squeezed over.
The lion exhibit had a unique design, the glass curtain wall was embedded with an olive green open-top Jeep!
Usually open-top cars are sports cars, it's rare to see an open-top Jeep.
This car gave the impression of the kind used by biologists or documentary film crews chasing after lion prides on the vast savannah, with a rugged and wild temperament!
Although it was only a model, the car had a spare tire hanging on the back, and its color was dull and worn, giving it the look of having frequently traveled in the wild, weathering dust and rain, a tale of trials and tribulations. There were also marks that looked like scratches from claws, with very meticulous details.
The front of the Jeep stuck out of the glass curtain wall, while the body of the car was inside.
Normally, the animal keeper would place some meat on the hood of the Jeep, so visitors sitting in the Jeep's seat, gripping the steering wheel, would have the chance to experience what it feels like to have a lion suddenly pounce on the hood while driving on a safari in Africa.
The animal keeper Li stood on the upper level of the lion exhibit, securing a piece of meat with a rope through the railings and letting it down onto the hood of the car.
Excited, the visitors exclaimed, "The meat is down! Now we're just waiting for the lions!"
Seated in the driver's seat of the jeep sat a middle-aged man; his face was composed, but a slight movement in his throat revealed that his heart was not quite as calm. Next to him, in the passenger seat, was a little child, buckled in, sitting upright with an excited gleam in his eyes!
The mother, holding a camera, prepared to take photos, and the onlookers conscientiously kept their distance from the front of the vehicle to stay out of the shot!
After a short while, from between the dense bushes near the glass wall, suddenly sprouted an even denser clump of yellow brush.
A lion with a thick mane emerged as Qiqi, lured by the scent, approached!
With his mouth open, he gazed dumbly in this direction, "Eh, who said pies don't fall from the sky? Isn't that a piece of meat that just fell down!"
Eagerly running over, he stood up, clung onto the hood, and bit into the meat!
"Wow!"
As the lion stood majestically with its paws resting on the car hood, the crowd erupted in unison with exclamations of awe.
Qiqi bit into the meat but didn't sever it, so he simply leapt onto the hood.
"Clang," a heavy sound echoed, sending vibrations through the car frame!
The father's eyes widened, his scalp tingling with a mix of fear and excitement!
Suddenly taken over by the dramatic spirit, he pulled a fierce face, gritted his teeth, floored the gas pedal, and clutched the steering wheel, madly swerving as if to shake the lion off, while loudly shouting, "Hold on, I'm going to speed up!"
Although there was a performative element, it was the sight of the lion's majesty that made his blood race and instinctively guided him, elevating his acting performance!
In that moment, he was no longer the everyday office worker with a beer belly who bought a gym membership he never used; he was a legendary adventurer in the vast African savannah, taking his child on an expedition and facing a lion without fear!
The child had been excited at the thought of getting close to the lion; yet, seeing the lion's orange-yellow face right behind a thin layer of glass, revealing sharp teeth, the immersion was too strong, and he really believed the lion was on top of the car.
With his father wildly turning the steering wheel and looking ferocious, the child burst into tears from fright.
Panicking, he quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, grabbed at his dad's sleeve, tears streaming, and cried out loudly, "Dad, we need to run! The lion's going to eat us!"
The father, with eyes wide and veins bulging, roared, "Don't be scared! Watch me shake it off!"
He suddenly leaned back hard against the seat!
... The steering wheel came off.
After all, it was only a model car.
"Hahaha..." The surrounding visitors couldn't help but laugh.
The father quickly cooled off his emotion, nonchalantly placing the steering wheel back on.
Although he did not look around, he could feel the amused glances of other visitors and, feeling a bit embarrassed, cleared his throat and casually said to his child, "Hey, it's fine, look how scared you've gotten. There's glass between us and the lion! Doesn't it look impressive?"
Stepping out of the car with his son, he wiped away the boy's tears, and then asked his wife excitedly in a hushed voice, "How was it, how was it? Did you get it on camera?"
Other visitors excitedly took their seats in the jeep, ready to begin their own African adventures with a scenario of lion pounces on the hood!
