Chapter 90: Soothing, Shattered Legend’s Vestige
The four powerhouses of the Sacred Aurelian Magic Tower didn't stay for long.
After putting up a tough barrier around the Labyrinth entrance, they left, saying that other members of their Magic Tower would arrive soon to set up a camp and other facilities since the Labyrinth had become permanent.
Ainen moved his Café Bistro to the side and started cooking food while Ron and Syl, who had just woken up, familiarised themselves with Yelvina and Lilian's new appearance.
At first, they were scared—and rightfully so, because the bastard who did this had made the creature look ugly and terrifying both.
But Ainen told Ron and Syl who they really were, since the two had met Lilian and Yelvina before.
The good thing about kids was that they were purer, especially if raised right.
After knowing the truth, Ron and Syl comforted Lilian and Yelvina and even played with them, helping lift their spirits and ease their sadness.
"Alright, the food is ready. Let's eat."
Ainen set a large glass bowl on the table and poured in the hotpot he made for Yelvina and Lilian, while preparing dishes for himself, Ron, and Syl.
"Brother, where are Saffa and the others?"
"They're still inside, but they'll come out soon." Ainen smiled. "They're the strongest of the bunch."
Saffa, Clovelle, and Fraisea were indeed very strong. The more they fought and honed their skills, the more their bloodline stirred, granting them information and improving their abilities.
Since they possessed powerful bloodlines, each carried information imprinted within from both their mother's and father's lineage.
And both bloodlines had great origins—the Nine-Tailed Glacier Starlight Fox and the Nightrift Wolf, both with ancestry above Emperor-rank.
That meant their ancestors had once reached realms beyond Emperor-rank.
So Saffa, Clovelle, and Fraisea, who inherited both bloodlines, didn't need any academy to learn new powers or expand their arsenals. As long as they fought and awakened their bloodlines, they would naturally gain insights to grow stronger.
…
Half a day later, people from Sacred Aurelian arrived and began constructing buildings and setting up formations with various resources and tools.
Since the Labyrinth had become permanent, it had to be secured.
Those who came sympathized with Lilian and Yelvina and showed no hesitation in interacting with them.
Ainen's food also made everyone crazy for him.
Time passed.
A day later, three people from nearby, smaller Magic Towers who had joined the expedition came out of the Labyrinth, escaping using the bracelets since they couldn't advance any further and were at risk of death in duels.
Another day passed, and the Labyrinth entrance finally flickered.
Saffa, Clovelle, and Fraisea emerged—successfully clearing the second and third floors. They ranked within the top 50 on the cross-Labyrinth leaderboard.
Viena, Dylan, Sofia, Diana, Naresh, Hammer, and a few others from Hammer's crew, along with participants from other places, were still inside.
Ainen didn't plan to join the Sacred Aurelian Magic Tower anymore. There was no need. He had his own unique ways to progress, and they suited him best. There were other ways to obtain what he needed without joining any organization.
Moreover, Ainen deemed it unsafe to join one. He had a spy within Cradle, but he couldn't afford to reveal that card lightly. Trusting anyone could be a mistake, so he hadn't told the big shots of the Sacred Aurelian Magic Tower about it.
After learning much during this Labyrinth run, his first decision was to free the mother of Saffa, Clovelle, and Fraisea, who was being held captive in Belrik Capital.
Those who knew about this were only he, Lilian, Yelvina, Dylan, and Sofia.
So he planned to take Dylan and Sofia with him to the capital. Seeing two people from the Mistbound Magic Tower, the King wouldn't dare make a fuss and would release the captive mother.
Ainen also received a ton of rewards from the Labyrinth based on his performance and planned to use them in his cooking to further his progress.
The reward for ranking on the leaderboard was lucky spin tickets, and he had acquired six Rank 1 lucky spin tickets. These were the best-tier ones since he had ranked first in all five arcade games and first overall on the Labyrinth leaderboard in performance.
He had yet to open them, but that night, Ainen lay on his bed in the Café Bistro—after converting its interior from chairs and tables to beds—and decided to use the tickets.
'Tomorrow, I'll break through to Ascendent-rank,' Ainen declared before using the first ticket.
The ticket vanished, turning into a storage pouch.
No notification rang—since it wasn't from his system, and he was now outside the Labyrinth's system.
Ainen checked the pouch, peeking inside to inspect what he got.
'Hmm?'
He pulled out the item.
[Shattered Legend's Vestige #3]
Detail:
— This is a piece of an artifact that can summon a treasure vault of a legendary being, containing a legacy waiting to be unearthed. Once all four pieces are gathered, it can be opened.
— When two pieces are within 10 kilometers of each other, they will glow and release an attraction force that can be sensed by the owners of the pieces.
'This is interesting,' Ainen murmured, examining the unevenly shattered dark-green gem with strange patterns swirling inside.
'A treasure vault of a legendary being? That's huge—but risky.'
'Yeah,' Lord Black's voice echoed. 'If an Emperor-rank with another piece comes within 10 kilometers, you'd either have to hand it over—or die.'
'Exactly.'
Ainen stored the piece in his System Inventory and took out the second ticket.
Without hesitation, he used it.
A pouch appeared again—exactly the same as before.
Ainen peeked inside.
'Damn. Now this is something I can use right away.'
It was a Lightning Fulmin Flower, a Legendary-grade Tier-5 resource of Lightning attribute!
'I think I got what I needed,' Ainen's eyes glinted. 'Now I have four Lightning-attributed resources. Adding some more lightning-based resources and cooking a recipe with focus and concentration in the direction of awakening Lightning Manipulation should give me food with fairly high chance of awakening it.'
'It's an SSS-rank class Mystic Chef.' Lord Black wryly smiled. 'After everything I have seen, if you want to cook that, you can.'
