Chapter 45: Desperation & Plan
"You are not joking, right? Your brother captured Ruoin?!"
Yelvina rubbed her temples, annoyed at this news.
"So that's how those cubs ended up here. Seriously…your brother made a mess, and I am not cleaning it up."
Yelvina narrowed her eyes coldly. "Actions have consequences. You still have time to salvage it somehow and avoid total destruction. Release Ruoin. We can let her meet the cubs and end this on a somewhat good note."
After saying that, she turned around and began walking towards the exit of the giant tent. "If you don't want to do that, you are on your own. Whatever you do, you'll be considered Mistbound Tower's member, but you will get no help from us to protect your brother or this kingdom from Nighrift's wrath."
As Yelvina left, she saw Prince Maurin talking with the Duke's son and his party.
"Maurin, go inside. Your sister wants to talk to you."
"Ah, right away."
Maurin excused himself and entered the tent with hasty steps.
His expression was hopeful.
"Did she agree to help us?"
Irnia looked at him.
Seeing her eyes, Maurin took a couple of steps back.
"What's with that face? What happened?"
Irnia's face was icy cold.
"The cubs have been found. They are with that young chef who was blessed by Arcane."
"What?!" Maurin's eyes lit up. "Great. Let's take them."
Irnia suddenly waved her hand, slamming Maurin on the ground with a loud bang, almost breaking his bones.
"You stupid fuck! He is protected by two big entities! You just have to die to keep the kingdom safe."
Maurin's eyes bled red. "Y-You can't be serious! What I did was for the kingdom! If I knew she was pregnant with Nightrift clan's wolf, I wouldn't have touched her!"
Irnia stopped her spell as Maurin finally breathed in relief.
"Damn it. We literally have no option," Irnia clenched her jaw. "You want to live, but then, everyone will die. Our bloodline will end, unless you take responsibility and get yourself executed."
"C-Can't we blame it on someone else? Like the Adventurers?"
Irnia wanted to slap her brother. "You think everyone is stupid?! Nothing can be hidden from them! Powerful people can read your fucking mind, either before or after killing you!"
"Labyrinth!" Maurin exclaimed. "That Ainen guy will enter Labyrinth in the morning. We can pay some parties to finish him off and capture the cubs."
"This Labyrinth is Tier-3. Those people from Magic Tower won't be able to enter, except for that blue-haired kid from Sacred Aurelian. Labyrinth is the perfect place to kill him and get the cubs."
"RIGHT?!" Maurin shouted, desperation stuffed in his voice.
Irnia was silent.
Maurin continued. "We can get the cubs and then release that fox! Let her call that wolf. All we need to do is have him make a contract with us in exchange for his cubs. The contract will state that Nightrift Clan must protect our kingdom, our royal family!"
"Do you think he will do this contract for his cubs?! Tell me!"
Irnia sighed. "He will. Those cubs are extraordinary. They carry a strong bloodline, so they are the future of the Nightrift clan. They can't make more cubs like them because they have poured their heart into their first creations, and if they are gone, there will always be a scar in them that can never be healed."
"So he will do anything to protect and save those cubs."
Maurin's eyes glinted. "Then we will kill that chef and get the cubs from him inside the Labyrinth."
"The best course of action would be to pay Torion Kingdom's Adventurers a hefty sum in exchange for killing that chef and capturing the cubs."
"We will lose out a lot from this, but at least, our family and I will live."
Irnia looked at her brother. For a second, she almost felt that letting her brother die was a better alternative than this.
But his idea wasn't bad.
Especially if they can get that wolf to accept the contract of protecting the royal family.
This was foolproof because then, the contract would be like a hanging sword. The Nightrift clan must keep their powerhouses in the Kingdom to watch and protect the Royal family if anything happens or if they are attacked by others.
Not doing that earnestly would mean the death of those cubs, according to the arcane contract!
The bargaining chip they got was quite powerful.
The hybrid bloodline in those foxes was valuable to the Nightrift clan, more valuable than their lives as long as the cubs could live and mature.
"We can do this, right?"
Seeing that Irnia was silent again, Maurin nudged her with his question to confirm this plan.
Irnia stood up and walked to and fro for a bit.
"It sounds good on paper. But if he doesn't accept the contract, and instead somehow saves the cubs from us, which, I believe, won't be that hard, then we will be doomed for sure."
"Then we have to prepare better!" Maurin clenched his fists. "We are weak, but we have the power to stand strong! We got the chips to make the deal with those monsters to our benefit. Not everyone gets such a chance, sister!"
Irnia couldn't decide, but seeing Maurin's half-despairing expression, she sighed.
'It does seem doable. If we can do it, we will get a strong guardian force.'
"Alright. You can do it."
Irnia took a deep breath and continued, her eyes turning calm. "You have to do everything. Talk with Adventurers, deal with them, and everything else, from getting the cubs to dealing with the wolf."
"I won't be a part of this. In fact, once we have seen some spotlights and the final ranking of this Labyrinth, I will leave with my master, back to the Mistbound Magic Tower."
"The fate of yourself and this kingdom lies in your hands, Crown Prince Maurin."
Maurin's lips trembled. "Fine."
"Since I started this, I'll deal with it."
'Useless bitch!'
"Then you can start now. Torion Kingdom's adventurers must be arriving soon."
…
Ainen woke up at four in the morning, sleeping for only five hours, but still feeling completely refreshed.
A perk of being a superhuman.
Ron and Syl were still sleeping, but the foxes woke up alongside Ainen as if they were waiting for him.
"Well then, shall we go and hunt some monsters and plants for our breakfast cooking?" Ainen grinned.
'Yes, Master!'
Ainen exited the restaurant and put it in his Inventory.
The surrounding area was already much more crowded now.
One camp with a large tent belonged to Sacred Aurelian.
Another camp with five small tents belonged to Yelvina and the parties of the Lainark Town.
One belonged to the Yurul Town.
Ainen saw Hammer there, training with none other than Jason, and was surprised.
"Hey, Hammer, Jason!"
Ainen walked towards them while smiling.
The duo turned to him and were surprised.
"You're here already, Ainen!? Hahaha, good." Hammer said with gusto.
Jason nodded at Ainen. "We meet again. Are you perhaps going to sell food before we enter? It would be great if you could do that."
Ainen chuckled. "Well then, help me gather ingredients, and I'll sell those who helped at a discount price."
Jason and Hammer's eyes lit up.
Hammer turned to his camp, where the Adventurers of Yurul Town were sleeping, and shouted, "You all lazy bums! Get up! It's morning!"
"Let me confirm something. You will only give a discount to those who help you, right?" Jason asked.
"Yep." Ainen grinned. "So don't call everyone, just call your and Diana's party if they are here."
"Great. Both of our parties are here. I'll call them right away."
