I Build a Modern Shelter in Fantasy World

Chapter 99: Another Side of Gideon

Everyone mourned, grieving and filled with regret. Luke was the one who suffered the most from Lyra's death.

The bond they had built for so long tore his heart apart, leaving him feeling empty and alone.

Gideon stepped forward, approaching Luke while softly patting his shoulder. He was there to encourage him, to say that Lyra had fallen as a good soldier and a loyal friend.

"We cannot let her death be in vain."

"Captain?" Luke asked, his voice heavy with sorrow.

"Lucas!" Gideon called firmly.

Lucas came as ordered, standing right beside Gideon with his head lowered in obedience. Gideon gave him a clear order, asking Lucas and all of Baron's guards to prepare.

"Burn this place. Don't let a single piece of wood remain," Gideon commanded.

"I understand, my Lord."

"And also order your men to—"

"I can do it myself, Captain."

Luke interrupted Gideon's order, stretching out both arms, his right hand supporting Lyra's neck and his left hand under her knees. Luke rose, carrying Lyra in his arms.

With slow, heavy steps and his head lowered, Luke left the wolf village, walking along the main road. His focus was straight ahead, occasionally glancing at Lyra's face and wiping the blood from her lips.

"Rest easy, Lyra. You're safe with me."

Luke walked alone, undisturbed by anyone. His world had already collapsed, and it would take him a long time to recover.

Gideon watched Luke, wanting to help him in such a moment, but Lena blocked him.

"Let him be," Lena ordered.

Gideon fell silent, then sighed in agreement. He felt sorrow because Lyra was gone, and Lena surely felt the same.

But they all knew what kind of consequences came with being soldiers. They just weren't ready to lose their closest companions in this situation.

Lucas and the soldiers carried out their tasks well. Torches ignited dry branches until the entire wooden houses burned.

In an instant, the wolf village collapsed, leaving nothing but thick black smoke rising high.

Lady Mitsuko saw what happened in the wolf village. Many villagers had died in the battle. She decided to go there and meet Gideon, to ask about the current situation.

"Lady Mitsuko?" Lena greeted.

She smiled in response, then fixed her gaze on Gideon's broad back. Gideon took a long breath, then turned to face Lady Mitsuko of the Kitsune race.

"You already know what happened, don't you?" Gideon asked.

"On behalf of the entire Kitsune race, I express my deepest condolences for Miss Lyra's death."

"The wolves have acted far more cruelly than imagined," Mitsuko said firmly.

"I haven't captured Bian yet. Do you know where he might have gone?" Gideon asked.

"Considering the current situation, there's a chance he went to the village in the east," Mitsuko replied.

There was indeed another wolf village to the east, but the distance was significant. With their hunger, it was impossible for Bian to go there without preparation.

There was a chance he was still near the wolf village, hiding and acting alone. Gideon would not let Bian live. Lyra's death was caused by Bian's reckless decision.

"Lucas!" Gideon ordered.

Lucas came, kneeling obediently with his head bowed. "Your orders, my Lord?"

"Spread your men around this village. Search every corner, check the bushes, caves, anywhere. I want you to find Bian!" Gideon commanded.

"Understood, my Lord."

Their task shifted from destroying the village to hunting Bian. Gideon turned to Mitsuko, making sure whether the food from Rockvalley had arrived.

"Your food has arrived. Thank you, Baron Gideon," Lady Mitsuko replied.

"I have helped you in many ways. I hope you ask nothing more of me except loyalty!" Gideon said firmly.

"Of course, Lord Gideon. The Kitsune race is an honorable one. We value pride and loyalty above all," Lady Mitsuko replied.

"I hope so."

Gideon and Lena remained in the wolf village, watching the soldiers comb through the area. Suddenly, a soldier ran toward Gideon, bringing news of Bian's whereabouts.

"Report, my Lord. Our men have captured Bian and his family," the soldier said.

"Good. Bring him here," Gideon ordered.

"Yes, my Lord."

Gideon's eyes looked sharp and fierce, filled with seriousness, anger, and disappointment. He removed the bandage from his upper arm, revealing the claw wound he had received from the wolves' surprise attack.

Bian appeared, dragged by soldiers, his body covered in cuts and stab wounds. His wife and child were safe, unharmed because Bian had done everything to protect them.

Bian's eyes fell on Gideon, also on the hundreds of wolf villagers who lay beheaded, stabbed, and shot by Gideon's forces. Bian was truly enraged.

"WHAT HAVE YOU—"

BANG!

Gideon pulled his SIG M17 from the belt holster and held it with his wounded right hand. His finger squeezed the trigger, sending a 9mm bullet tearing into Bian's thigh.

"AGH!"

"Don't shout at me, you animal!" Gideon spat.

"Look at your people. Not a single one of them survived."

"There are still 56 wolves in Rockvalley. Killing them isn't enough. I think making them slaves is a good idea," Gideon said.

"We humans will always stand above you filthy beasts!"

"What do you want? The forest wolf race is finished. We've lost," Bian said firmly.

"Just kill us already!" Bian demanded.

Gideon fell silent, then smirked as he realized what he could do. He pulled Bian's daughter forward and sat her down on the ground, pressing the SIG M17 against the back of her head.

"No! Please don't!" Bian's wife cried out, tears falling as her beloved daughter was threatened with death.

"Who killed Lyra?" Gideon asked.

"I don't know! Everything was chaos. I didn't order her killed!" Bian shouted.

"But you ordered her kidnapped?"

"Yes, but that—"

BANG!

Before Bian could finish his words, Gideon pulled the trigger, sending a 9mm bullet into the head of Bian's daughter. She fell lifeless to the ground, her head torn open and blood pouring endlessly.

"YOU!" Bian roared.

Gideon kicked Bian's face and stomach, sending his body crashing backward in agony. Gideon's attention shifted to Bian's wife.

"Lucas!" Gideon called.

"Yes, my Lord?"

"What's the price of a sex slave from a mythological race woman?" Gideon asked.

"Much cheaper than humans. They're worthless."

"Then so be it."

BANG!

Without hesitation, Gideon raised his pistol and fired several rounds into Bian's wife, dropping her instantly with bloody holes across her body.

She was dead, and so was her daughter. Both were gone while Bian could do nothing to save them.

"Damn you, Gideon!" Bian shouted.

"Take him to Rockvalley. Shave his fur and put an iron chain around his neck."

"Luke will kill him in front of everyone in the village!"
