I Build a Modern Shelter in Fantasy World

Chapter 93: The Distribution of Food

What Queen Anastasya had sent would greatly help Gideon and the four villages under his authority.

However, this action was of course quite suspicious to Gideon, especially since both sides had been in conflict just yesterday.

Gideon suspected that Queen Anastasya had hidden intentions behind her kindness in giving food aid.

That was why Gideon ordered Viviene, Lena, and the others to count what types of food were sent and how many, then calculate them according to the standard price of each food item.

It was done solely as a precaution in case Anastasya brought up this favor again in the future. Gideon could hand over plenty of gold to repay the woman's kindness.

Hopefully not, but it is always a possibility. I still have to anticipate it.

Lena and the others reported the results of their counting to Viviene. Viviene received it all, then stepped closer to Gideon.

"Out of the 150 wagons sent, there are 120 sacks of flour, 70 boxes of eggs, 100 drums of milk, 50 boxes of meat, 30 sacks of potatoes, and other fruits in amounts that cannot be counted exactly," Viviene answered.

Gideon fell silent, keeping his eyes forward at the 150 wagons in front of him. From time to time, he looked ahead, watching many villagers gather along the main road of the Baron's residence, staring at the piles of food sent by Queen Anastasya.

"Consult with the maids about the standard price for each food item, then prepare the money," Gideon replied. Viviene cleared her throat obediently.

She stepped inside accompanied by her maid assistant. Lena then asked what Gideon planned to do with all the food aid in front of them.

"Tell the soldiers to start bringing everything inside. Store it in the unused warehouse," Gideon ordered.

"We need to distribute everything to the villagers in an orderly way," Gideon added.

"Lena, Lyra. You two focus on dividing several types of food into one box. Each box must contain at least flour, eggs, a piece of meat, potatoes, and milk," Gideon commanded.

"The total population in Rockvalley reaches 1,500 people, and Nemora only 740. Ask the soldiers to help distribute the food aid."

"One household will only get one box. We have to save it until the end of winter."

"I understand."

Lena and Lyra began their tasks. Lyra opened her laptop and entered data from each amount of food and the total population of Nemora and Rockvalley.

She used her intelligence to determine how many kilograms of flour and other food each box should contain.

Lena focused on leading the Baron's troops to carry the food from each wagon into the warehouse. All soldiers were mobilized to help finish the task quickly.

"Luke, go to the village center and tell them that the food aid will be distributed tomorrow. Every household must line up starting tomorrow morning at the Baron's residence," Gideon ordered.

"Alright, Captain."

Luke left the Baron's residence, replaced by Lucas, who had just arrived after delivering the wagon carrying food supplies to Dergon.

He looked shocked, his eyes fixed on the sacks of flour and boxes of eggs stacked in the hundreds of wagons outside the Baron's residence. Lucas immediately asked Gideon about it.

"What is all this, My Lord?" Lucas asked.

"Lucas. How is Dergon's situation?" Gideon asked.

"They're doing well. After receiving regular food supplies, their condition is gradually improving," Lucas replied.

"Good to hear."

"I have a task for you," Gideon said, patting Lucas on the shoulder.

"What is it, My Lord?" Lucas asked.

"Tomorrow, get ready to go to Nemora with this food aid. Do the distribution the same way you did in Dergon. One household, one food box," Gideon answered.

"Yes, My Lord. I fully understand."

"Where exactly did all this food aid come from? The amount is huge," Lucas asked.

"Queen Anastasya. My team and I just met her, and she promised to help the villages by sending food aid."

"I didn't expect her to send it so quickly," Gideon explained.

"That's a relief then. It seems we won't go through this winter with too much hardship," Lucas replied.

Gideon nodded, determined to prevent anyone from starving or freezing this winter. That was why the rest of the food from Anastasya would be stored as backup in case, in the middle of winter, a famine struck due to lack of food supplies.

The two parted ways, Lucas returning to the guard commander's residence while Gideon stepped into the warehouse where Lena was storing much of Queen Anastasya's food aid.

Lyra was different. She sat typing on her laptop about the exact contents of each box that would later be distributed. That calculation was important to make sure fairness was maintained.

"When do we start distributing it?" Lena asked.

"Tomorrow. It seems the workers can take off their armor and relax today," Gideon replied.

"Of course. I'll distribute it once Lyra finishes the calculations," Lena said.

"If you need anything, just tell me directly."

"Yes. I'll do it later."

One by one, the wagons emptied and left Rockvalley heading north. All the food was already inside the warehouse.

Gideon was still there when Luke returned after spreading Gideon's information to the villagers.

Lyra handed her laptop to Lena, showing the exact total of each food item, ensuring the villagers would each receive at least five different kinds of food.

Lena nodded with understanding, and both Gideon and Lyra also looked over the spreadsheet.

"Bring the scale here," Lena ordered one of the soldiers, who nodded in reply.

Lena fixed her eyes ahead, looking at Gideon and Luke in turn. Lyra had calculated it precisely using formulas, and the numbers might match the needs. Lena and Lyra, along with the other soldiers, would start working today.

"Can we help?" Luke asked.

"No. It's more than enough already. You don't need to help," Lyra answered.

Gideon smiled, patting Luke's shoulder gently before asking him to return home. Arriving at the house, Gideon ordered the maids to start cooking, even though it wasn't lunchtime yet.

"Make some cakes or snacks, prepare food for them," Gideon added.

The maids understood completely. The order was directed at Lena, Lyra, and the soldiers who were busy dividing the food aid fairly. The maids began working, heating up the stove.

Viviene came hurrying down from the second floor, carrying the documents of the price calculations for all the food aid from Queen Anastasya.

Gideon understood why she came, received the document, and read it slowly.

"Ninety-six gold coins, huh?" Gideon asked.

"Correct. It could probably be rounded up to ninety-seven," Viviene explained.

"I'll prepare the money."

"After the food distribution is finished, prepare a budget to buy lots of bread from Mischo."

"But don't we already have plenty of flour from Queen Anastasya's aid?" Viviene asked.

"This is only as a precaution."
