I Build a Modern Shelter in Fantasy World

Chapter 111: Night to Prepare

Gideon had given the order, his decision was final to immediately head to the Capital to investigate the truth behind Norton's information.

If it was true, then Gideon and his team had to take tactical action to stop them.

Luke went back to watch the workers, while Lena went to check on her patients. Gideon walked in another direction, this time toward Jacques' residence.

He believed Jacques and Nath needed to be informed about his change of plans. They would be the ones holding control over everything in the village, assisted by Lucas.

The door was knocked gently, Nath appeared to open it, inviting Gideon inside. He saw Jacques had already risen from bed, sitting on a chair while enjoying his lunch.

When Gideon came in, Jacques tried to stand to greet him. But Gideon quickly stopped him and let the old man continue his meal without bother.

"Nath, can we talk?" Gideon asked.

Nath froze in confusion, then agreed to Gideon's request. The two stepped outside the house and into the front yard. The old man didn't mind being left behind by Nath for a while.

"What is it, Lord Gideon?" Nath asked.

"Something happened in the north that requires me and my team to go. I've already made the decision to head there," Gideon explained.

Like a thunderclap on a clear day, Nath was shocked to hear this. Gideon's sudden leaving was completely unexpected to her, but she realized Gideon was a Baron.

Nobles obeyed the orders of the Kingdom. There was a chance King Moko had sent a message to Gideon and his team to aid in the war in the north. Nath, as a commoner, could not stop Gideon's plan.

Even so, Nath looked worried. Her eyes shifted to the side, noticing Lena as she checked the sick villagers.

If Gideon and his team are gone, then who will take care of the problems in Dergon?

"I understand. The Kingdom's orders must be prioritized, right?" Nath asked.

"The Kingdom has nothing to do with my plan. My team is leaving because of something urgent related to our existence."

"Your existence?"

"You don't need to know about that," Gideon replied.

"I'll place Lucas here to help watch the workers at the well construction site. Lena will also assign one of her trusted people to stay and take care of the sick villagers," Gideon explained.

"Before leaving, I'll arrange your food supply schedule. I'll make sure you won't starve before harvest season arrives."

"They've got a lot on their plate," Nath said, and Gideon nodded.

He explained that Nath would serve as the village leader, making sure Lucas and Lena's people worked properly. Gideon had originally intended to give the responsibility to Jacques, but seeing the old man's condition, the best choice was to hand it to Nath.

"Can I really handle this properly?" Nath asked, doubtful.

"Of course. You know this village the best, you know how the villagers interact."

"In your hands, Dergon will be just fine. I'm sure of it!"

Nath fell silent, her head lowered, her fists clenched tightly. She didn't know where to start, but with Lucas and Lena's people around, they could surely help her lead.

In the end, Nath cleared her throat and agreed to what Gideon proposed. She would do her best not to let Gideon down. She knew exactly what the priorities were: the well excavation and the sick villagers.

"Alright. I'll accept it," Nath replied with determination.

"Good. If you ever lack anything, go to Rockvalley and meet Viviene. She'll help you," Gideon explained.

"When will you return from the north?" Nath asked.

Gideon shook his head. There was no clear certainty if he would be gone for long or not. If Norton's information was false and they didn't find bullet projectiles from the homemade firearm, then he might return quickly. But if they did, it would take far longer.

"I don't know. I can't say."

Nighttime.

Rockvalley Village.

After returning, Luke and Lena immediately prepared themselves, putting on their uniforms and bulletproof vests. Gideon did the same. This was going to be a long and exhausting mission, and Gideon and his team had to be ready.

That night, the three of them gathered in Gideon's room, where the map of the Moko Kingdom's territory was laid out clearly. Luke and Lena kept their eyes fixed forward as Gideon explained something to them.

"From this distance, travel time to get there will take at least five to seven days. We'll pass through several towns before arriving at Urstown."

"According to the letter, Moko's forces in the north were pushed back as far as Urstown. That's just a small town with no fortress. If the war keeps going, the last stronghold in the north close to the Capital is only Highwall."

Gideon pointed to several locations using a red laser. Luke and Lena could understand. Their long military experience made them grasp tactical flows like this easily. Implementing it wasn't hard, especially with their complete gear.

"This is a long trip. Bring extra mags in your packs, and always wear helmets with all the features on," Gideon said.

"The manpack radio will be handled by me. It makes it easier for us to coordinate at a certain distance."

"Understood, Capt."

"Stay cautious. Don't act offensively. Stick to the command!"

"Copy, Capt."

After the quick briefing, the three of them walked together to the steel room to grab the gear they needed, especially mags and MREs. Gideon checked the logistics, making sure everything was set for the mission.

Viviene happened to pass by the room, glancing in to see Gideon preparing equipment she didn't recognize, all black in color. She remembered when Gideon had left in a similar condition before.

"Where are you going, Lord Gideon?" Viviene asked, making him turn his head quickly.

"Viviene? Come here."

She nodded, stepped inside, and saw Luke and Lena's faces already covered by cloth, their heads under helmets with scopes whose functions she didn't understand. Only Gideon had yet to cover the lower part of his face.

"Go inside and bring many gold boxes from there," Gideon ordered firmly.

"Y-Yes," Viviene answered, nervous.

The woman went in and out carrying boxes filled with gold coins, a large amount but not enough to empty the vault. Gideon took 50 coins, slipping them into his pouch, telling her clearly that the gold was for their needs during the journey.

The rest was left to Viviene for managing the village, including food aid for Dergon. Viviene nodded, clearing her throat, and briefly noticed the amount was about 200-300 coins.

"Keep that for the village's needs. No one is allowed to enter this room!" Gideon said firmly.

"Y-Yes, Lord Gideon."

"May I know where you're heading?" Viviene asked.

"North."

"There's something I need to deal with there," Gideon explained.

"North? But isn't that a battlefield?"

"Yes. We already understand the situation there," Gideon replied.

Luke and Lena finished setting up their gear, turning off the radio after checking its functions, saving the battery. Gideon was the last to prepare, putting on his neck buff and helmet.

His M4A1 hung across his chest, spare mags packed into his vest. His SIG M17 holstered at his waist with extra mags on his belt. The scope and NODs worked properly, everything ready to go.

Gideon's eyes fixed firmly on Viviene. He raised his hand and gave her a tight pat on the shoulder.

"I'm leaving Rockvalley in your hands," Gideon said.

"Don't disappoint me!"

"O-Of course, Lord Gideon. I'll do everything I can to never disappoint you."

"The soldiers will remain here. Make sure Lucas sets up patrol schedules in the village, always on guard against the territory of the mythic races."

"I understand," Viviene replied.

Gideon smiled, slowly glancing right and left. "Luke. Lena. Move out!"
