Chapter 304
The proposal sent to the countries in South America, as expected, was rejected.
They all expressed it in various roundabout ways, but ultimately, the stance is that it cannot happen.
Naturally, the United States declined, and it seems that South America is keeping an eye on the U.S. as well.
“The Argentine presidential couple said they would come personally. What’s up with that?”
“They demanded the Falklands in exchange for accepting all the Blacks.”
They asked for the Falklands? Wasn’t the Falklands, in original history, retained by Britain?
“The Falklands. Hmm.”
I wonder if Britain is going to have a fit.
If Churchill were to get involved, the Falklands War could break out even earlier than in the original history or take place right on Argentine soil.
“Honestly, it’s not a bad condition, though.”
If we nitpick, our claim to ‘cannibals’ is a mere pretext.
Because the Congo would later see multiple wars and be dubbed as the World War in Africa.
There’s no guarantee it wouldn’t happen in this timeline either.
How horrific was the war in Africa far in the future? Yet, not all of them would be supported by the West nor have their order maintained.
Maybe it’s only natural, but still. That’s why I’d like to reduce the number of Blacks as much as possible.
It’s a bit much to outright massacre Blacks again; the last time it was at least buried due to China’s involvement. If we were to expose it openly, it would cause quite a stir later on.
“Indeed. If they’re going to take in that many Blacks, it would make things easier for us.”
“Churchill would have a lot to say about that.”
However, if the U.S. ends up dominating South America in the future, isn’t it risky for the Falklands?
Is giving back the Falklands the right thing to do? This is something I should definitely discuss with Churchill.
Speaking of which, I contacted Churchill.
-“No way, this won’t do. You can’t just give up the Falklands. The Russians need the Falklands too, don’t they?”
Right. If the Falklands exist, then we can always keep an eye on the U.S. in front of the South America that’s fallen into their hands.
Giving the Falklands to Argentina now implies that the U.S. military would eventually garrison there.
If it’s not Argentina, it carries other meanings.
This is a sensitive issue for me to accept as well.
Who knows? This could end up being Anastasia’s blunder later on.
And then what’s supposed to happen?
“If Churchill doesn’t agree, what can we do? Then where do we resettle the Blacks?”
At my words, Churchill fell silent, then cleared his throat as if he thought of something good.
-“Cough. If we’re going to be picky, there’s also India, isn’t there? After all, Argentina’s claim to the Falklands could be used as an excuse to decline. Besides, we have our pride.”
“Hmm.”
India. Can’t argue with that. If we push some Blacks into an area that’s lacking in population, it might just work out.
We could stir up internal conflicts using those Blacks; wouldn’t that be fun?
-“Alternatively, we could hand over the Blacks to that Soong Mei-ling woman under the condition that we back them in the war.”
Right. That’s true, but the reason we want to leave South America to them in the first place is because we chose to present it as a more humanitarian deal. It’s no different from putting pressure on India and China.
Besides, who knows what kind of treatment those Blacks would face in India and China?
“What kind of treatment would they end up receiving?”
How would those guys fare?
-“Well, Your Majesty the Tsar. The great Byzantine Majesty. What if we consider it this way? The moment we transfer those Blacks to another country, they are no longer our concern.”
“And then?”
Yeah. I know that, but what are we supposed to do about it?
-“Let them die or not, whether they establish a new savage country in that barbaric land of India and China, it’s not our problem. Right? After all, as long as it’s not something happening right in front of the Tsar, how many Blacks die doesn’t really matter at all. Our goal is decolonization, not the protection of Black people’s rights. That would be the job for the Yankees who nearly got wiped out by the Black chicken revolutionary army.”
“That’s a valid point.”
Yeah. I guess it is.
As long as we send the Blacks to another place, whether they live well or poorly, it’s none of my business.
So, we’re talking about sending the Blacks somewhere else, is that right?
-“There are many ways to approach South America, aren’t there? If that presidential couple has already arrived, we should take the lead in diplomacy. The Falklands are absolutely off the table. As it is, I need to stabilize Normandy and Brittany too. If I give away the Falklands, my political lifespan is over.”
Right. I know that much.
In fact, just having survived this long after becoming Mr. Dunkirk, I think it’s pretty amazing.
We certainly can’t part with the land.
“I get it, so let’s call it a day. My ears are aching from this.”
Thud—
I hung up the phone for now.
If Churchill is this adamant, there’s nothing I can do. Since we’ve already given up most of the Pacific, it’s only sensible to keep the Falklands, even just to control South America.
It’s quite far away, but unlike the original history, we can turn it into a military stronghold.
Alright. Let’s see how this goes.
I’ve only heard about them, so I don’t know what kind of people they are.
All I know is that Eva Perón is a promiscuous woman who gets around, yet manages to be popular.
She’s even someone whose corpse is rumored to be stolen.
Thinking about it, I’d rather see Eva Perón than Juan Perón.
Juan Perón and Eva Perón.
Before welcoming the couple, I looked at the empty lot where the Palace of Anastasia is to be built, a site that used to be occupied by the Christ the Savior Cathedral.
Construction was set to start.
Since the ground was originally a marsh, the foundation work had to be quite thorough.
“How long will the foundation work take?”
“Considering it’s a tall building, it’ll likely take quite a while. We’re estimating at least three years just for the foundation work.”
Three years just for the foundation. This is going to be quite a massive project.
So, does that mean I’ll have to watch foundation work happening here almost every day?
“Then how long until completion?”
“We can’t cut corners, so we’re looking at a maximum of ten years.”
“Well. Yeah. That makes sense.”
Surely, the Soviet Palace also took until the late 40s to complete.
We started in the 40s, so that checks out.
“Your Majesty, Juan Perón and Eva Perón have arrived in Moscow.”
“Is that so?”
In the distance, I spotted two figures that stood out amongst the crowds of Moscow.
People I had a slight familiarity with from my past life knowledge.
Juan Perón and Eva Perón.
The couple was now walking around Moscow, taking in the sights.
Argentina wouldn’t be too bad, I suppose.
“So this is Moscow. It’s truly beautiful. What’s that over there?”
“That’s a skyscraper we’ve built to honor our mother, Tsarina. It’s so tall that it can be seen from anywhere in Moscow.”
“Do the citizens accept that willingly?”
“Yes, our mother, the Tsarina, is praised by everyone across Russia. It’s not like the old Tsarist regime.”
“I see.”
The couple seemed to be exploring every corner of Moscow, starting from the road that leads to the Kremlin.
“Is she really the woman known as the saint of the poor in Argentina?”
Is age really an unfair thing? Or is she just naturally beautiful?
She certainly looked beautiful enough to understand why she’s adored as a saint, even while leading a promiscuous life.
But that’s all there is to it.
“Is that so?”
“She implemented policies for the poor, workers, and the lower classes.”
I answered Maria’s question simply.
In the original history, she would have received food distribution promises from France or gone to Spain for relief work, even forming the Eva Perón Foundation with donations from labor unions and businesses.
In other words, she’s like that infamous Romanian queen who had an affair, but a more impressive version?
But I can’t let her be treated similarly to me.
For now, I greeted the Perón couple in front of the National Duma building.
“Welcome.”
“Thank you for such a warm welcome.”
“How can you be so young? You seem to be around my age.”
Oh please, I’m younger than you. She’s subtly throwing shade there.
It seems women just can’t help but feel jealous about appearances.
Sure. They didn’t come here just for me.
“The migration of Blacks must not be the only thing driving you to come here, President couple. Did you come to Moscow to become friends through our Rome Treaty?”
“That’s correct.”
“Unfortunately, we can’t hand over the Falklands. Various European countries have already quelled domestic discontent through decolonization.”
Do the people really accept decolonization just because they’re told to?
In fact, both Britain and France, who make up the largest portions of the Rome Treaty nations, were under pressure to decolonize due to internal issues.
In Churchill’s case, given the current state of the British Empire, it’s not just the Rome Treaty that’s problematic, but maintaining the colonies of the British Empire itself is difficult. After the last Great War against Communist Germany, he blamed all failures on the now-fallen Goebbels.
As for France, the country has split, so they have to decolonize even for internal management; somehow they held on to Algeria.
What about the Netherlands? What will they do when their town isn’t safe?
In any case, they’ve dropped decolonization for various reasons, but they’re unlikely to give up random territories aside from fundamental ones.
Especially the Falklands would be extremely hard for Churchill to relinquish. Even if they’ve taken Normandy and Brittany, they couldn’t just throw away their colonies.
Normandy and Brittany only served to somewhat alleviate Mr. Dunkirk’s humiliation.
As a member of the Rome Treaty, they had no reason to garrison soldiers at the Falklands.
“I completely understand that.”
“But the very fact that you brought up the Falklands means you’re either rejecting the migration of Blacks or trying to establish a reason to negotiate with us.”
For supporter viewpoints or possibly truly wishing to take the Falklands. A mixed bag of reasons could be involved.
“The Tsar understands it well.”
“We’ve focused on European affairs and haven’t kept up with South America. The fact that the presidential couple is here means something must have happened in South America.”
While it seemed obvious, let’s hear it out.
I can bet the U.S. is likely involved too.
“The U.S. is the problem.”
“The U.S.?”
That makes sense. The U.S. is aiming to expand its influence directly into South America.
“Yes. The U.S. is moving south, establishing dominance over Mexico and Honduras, and now it’s aiming for Venezuela and the whole of South America.”
“That makes sense. To go against our Rome Treaty, the U.S. will need to capture at least from North America down to South America.”
The U.S. is moving as quickly as it can.
Feeling threatened, Argentina probably wishes to be the victor in South America to stand up against the U.S. as well.
Given the U.S.’s stature, it’s no small matter to contend with. Despite having nuclear capabilities and massive air support, the operation to decline them was expected to take years, yet it all ended within a year.
The U.S.’s combat strength is something Argentina simply cannot tackle.
Moreover, they must have seen how the U.S. was gearing up for war against Japan, churning out ships and weapons, yet they think they can stand against the U.S.?
That’s truly remarkable.
Let’s think this through carefully. What does that even mean?
In the end, they were saying they wish to win with our support to overcome the U.S. and step into the new axis of the world.
Even so, that’s a bit much.
“Our Argentina intends to secure South America before the U.S. gobbles it up and comes after us. That way, we have the Falklands as a secure base against the pro-U.S. factions in South America.”
You intend to secure South America?
Are you saying you wish to unify all of South America?
“Are you saying you plan to get South America? To unify it?”
Does unifying South America sound easy?
Chile, Bolivia? Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, and so on—how would you suppress all of those? What if the U.S. comes in with support through Brazil during that time?
I see it as impossible.
Is Argentina just looking to gamble at this point?
For our Rome Treaty, they see us as a reliable backer, thinking we can at least prevent the U.S. from acting directly.
Even if that seems impossible, they might believe they can win with our weaponry.
Maybe that’s why they’ve thrown the Falklands into the fray.
By mentioning the Falklands, they could hint that if South America falls to the U.S., they really could be in jeopardy concerning the Falklands.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Whether following the example of the Rome Treaty or occupying land, they must capture South America to stand against the U.S.”
Right. That makes sense, but there’s another problem.
The fact that they’re saying all this implies they have some drive behind it.
“We have conditioned the migration of Blacks into Argentina. Does that mean they would accept that as well?”
“If we gain supremacy in South America with the support of the Rome Treaty, what could go wrong?”
So, that’s what you’re saying?
