Chapter 57: Eye of the Observer
Chapter 57: Eye of the Observer
“I heard you two caused quite a ruckus over at the Gladiatorial Arena today! Even I caught wind of the commotion you stirred up!”
The City Lord set two cups of red tea on the table and passed them to the duo.
“Oh, come on! What you heard was all exaggeration. I didn’t do much; it was mostly Yake who made all the noise today. Right?”
Aierjisi nudged Yake with her elbow.
“Eh. It wasn’t that big of a deal. Those Contestants were just so weak that winning was a piece of cake for me.”
“Haha, well said! But why did the two of you suddenly decide to go play at the Gladiatorial Arena? A few days ago, you were both all about the Commercial Street.”
The City Lord was quite curious about their visit to the arena. If they were just there to watch others fight, that would be normal, but the fact that Yake personally participated made him wonder if there was some prize he was after.
“Well, City Lord, it’s a long story. I originally planned to rest here at the City Lord’s Mansion for the day since your anniversary party is coming up soon. I need to be well-rested!”
Yake immediately launched into a complaint about how the Little Princess dragged him to the arena and forced him to compete.
“Hahah! So that’s how it is! You two really are something else. Just to check on his growth, you took him to participate in that competition.”
Hearing about the Little Princess dragging Yake into the match made the City Lord even more amused. He had thought they were after some prize!
“Too bad Yake didn’t end up winning. That woman’s strength was just too much for him.”
Aierjisi took a sip of her tea, thinking Yake, whom she had personally trained, would easily take the win, but who would have guessed he’d run into such a powerhouse?
“Oh? Did you run into a strong opponent?”
The City Lord raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Did they actually encounter a real powerhouse during the competition?
“Yeah, City Lord. She was a bona fide strong person. She completely wiped the floor with me!”
“Is that so? Now I’m interested. Can you tell me more about this strong individual? I’d like to see if I can recruit her.”
“Why? Is Miss Yin no longer impressive to you?”
“Of course not! Yin is the person I trust the most! It’s just… if I could have another person to help share the burden, both she and I would find things a lot easier.”
Right now, matters in Pield were mainly handled by the City Lord and Yin. With only their experiences, managing such a large city was indeed challenging. Thus, the City Lord had always been on the lookout for capable talents to be his powerful allies.
“I see. However, that woman seems a bit troublesome. I advise you to let it go.”
“Eh? How could I? As long as she’s talented, I absolutely won’t let her slip away! I’ll do my absolute best to secure her!”
Seeing the City Lord’s resolute attitude, the Little Princess could only shake her head. She got Yake to share the information about the woman.
“Hmm… Aira Seymour. That’s her name, isn’t it? I’ll have the Guards look into whether she’s still in this city. Thank you, Mr. Yake, for the intel.”
“There’s no need to thank me, City Lord. Compared to the care we’ve received these days, this bit of intel hardly warrants gratitude.”
“Hmm. So, what was the final result? Any unexpected outcomes regarding Mr. Yake’s progress?”
Looking at the Little Princess still sipping her tea, the City Lord asked her about this time’s gains.
“It was pretty much as expected. After all, with Yake’s strength, defeating that woman was totally impossible. But there were a few unexpected outcomes.”
“Oh? Do share. What unexpected outcomes?”
“It’s him.”
Aierjisi pointed at Yake beside her. This time, the unexpected gain wasn’t hers but rather his!
“Mr. Yake? What unexpected gains did he have?”
The City Lord looked puzzled at the Little Princess. What did she mean by that?
“Actually… I think I accidentally learned a new skill. This skill will be really helpful for future battles!”
“Oh… then congratulations, Mr. Yake, for picking up a skill that’s useful in combat.”
“No, that’s not all, Yake. Your unexpected gain isn’t limited to just that.”
Aierjisi could no longer hold her tongue; Yake’s unexpected gain was more than just one skill!
“Ah, you’re right! Actually, that isn’t really an unexpected gain. It’s just… through fighting with that woman, I discovered I seem to have a high talent for learning. Like that skill you mentioned, what was it called again?”
Yake turned to ask the Little Princess, trying to recall the skill’s name.
“No Thought Shadow Kill. At the very least, you did learn this skill, so remember the name well.”
“Oh right, No Thought Shadow Kill. I learned it quite easily, and then Aier noticed I seem to have a knack for learning this stuff.”
“Well, since before, I was only teaching you simple combat techniques, I never realized this! But now I see you’ve actually got quite the learning ability!”
Aierjisi grumbled a bit about Yake. If it weren’t for his innate deficiencies in magic, he might have exceeded her as a Mage!
Still, if he had a strong propensity for learning combat techniques, that would be fantastic. But it’s a pity fate had bestowed upon him a master who was merely mediocre in every respect but not proficient in any. All she could teach him were just basic fighting skills.
“I see. But that probably isn’t a talent for learning, is it? Mr. Yake, can I take a good look at your eyes?”
“Sure, but why do you want to look at my eyes?”
“Just a moment, let me observe closely.”
The City Lord leaned in towards Yake’s face, scrutinizing his eyes.
“Just as I suspected.”
“What? Is there something off about Yake’s eyes?”
Aierjisi set her tea down. Since the City Lord said so, there must be something unusual about Yake’s eyes.
“That’s not a talent for learning; that’s the Eye of the Observer!”
“Eye of the Observer?”
Aierjisi and Yake exclaimed in unison. What was this so-called thing the City Lord talked about?
