Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Capturing Sharon Carter Alive
Upon arriving in Sokovia, Sharon Carter immediately began having her S.H.I.E.L.D. team members devise an assault plan. She had never considered infiltrating for intelligence-gathering through disguise, as even the Black Widow—who was considered the best at infiltration within S.H.I.E.L.D.—had failed before.
Given the urgency of the mission, Sharon Carter decided to discard any plans of stealthy infiltration and opted for a full-on assault from the outset.
After three hours of pre-battle discussions and refining the plan, Sharon Carter led her special operations team in a decisive attack against the Umbrella Corporation.
What she didn't anticipate was the overwhelming military strength of Umbrella. She had expected to break through their defenses and storm the Umbrella headquarters, capturing top executives or even the boss. She had hoped to extract the intelligence S.H.I.E.L.D. was after through interrogation of Umbrella's high-ranking officials.
But now, the situation had flipped—she herself was about to be captured by Umbrella.
When a C1-type flashbang exploded beside her, Sharon's ears rang, and her vision was flooded with white. Despair gripped her heart as she watched one by one as the invading enemies were captured by Umbrella's black-ops soldiers.
On the ground combat surveillance in the holographic projection showed the chaos of the battle.
When the last enemy officer, dressed in tight combat gear, slim and curvaceous—a woman who could only be described as beautiful—was captured, Carl patted Wanda's head. His intention was to have her slow down as he had other matters to attend to.
However, Wanda misinterpreted the gesture. With a flirtatious glance, she sped up, urging Carl into a sprinting pace.
Half an hour later.
With a beastly growl, Carl entered a state of calm, almost sage-like detachment.
An hour later, Carl took the elevator to the surface, arriving at the private prison built by Umbrella's headquarters. This facility was intended for disobedient clients, as sometimes the people Carl dealt with were foolish enough to try to betray or double-cross him.
For those clients, Carl always found a "good place" to help them "clear their heads."
Carl was followed by an elite armed squad. The sudden attack on Umbrella's headquarters had caused some disarray, but Carl had already reassured Red Queen, and now he led his bodyguards to the Umbrella building's 14th floor—its private prison.
In the aftermath of the battle, about seventy enemies had been captured. One woman in particular seemed somewhat familiar to Carl.
"Wait outside. I'll go in alone."
Carl arrived at Cell A-7 and instructed his bodyguards to remain outside before stepping in.
This cell had been built with Umbrella's clients in mind. Following the principle that "the customer is king," these cells were quite luxurious, equipped with everything a prisoner might need. To offer a more "humane" confinement experience, Carl had even included a variety of entertainment options.
The cell featured a film projector, a vinyl record player, a Go board, a piano, and even an ergonomic massage chair.
Carl spared no expense in ensuring that his clients were well taken care of. Aside from freedom, the environment here was nearly identical to the outside world.
If a client needed something, Carl could provide it, as long as they behaved and didn't try any tricks during the transaction.
Of course, some stubborn clients required more forceful methods. If they refused to cooperate, Carl had no choice but to send them for "memory cleansing." If they had cooperated, Carl would have avoided using such violent tactics.
Memory implantation was a delicate operation—altering someone's memories could lead to exposure, and there was always a risk of personality shifts. If someone close to the person noticed, they might discover something was wrong.
Therefore, Carl avoided memory implantation unless absolutely necessary.
Inside the cell, Sharon Carter was flipping through a copy of A Brief History of Time. The vinyl player was softly playing "My Heart Will Go On" from the Titanic soundtrack.
The gentle piano melody echoed through the room.
Carl slowly approached Sharon Carter, his face showing slight surprise. "Seems like you've adapted well. It's only been a little over an hour, and you've already settled into life here."
Sharon Carter's mind raced. She had just been disassembling a television and radio to cobble together a rudimentary communications device to make contact with the outside world.
She hadn't expected Carl to walk in, and she nearly blew her cover. Hastily, she grabbed a book as a distraction.
She looked up, studying Carl's handsome face. After memorizing his features, she calmly asked, "Are you one of Umbrella's top executives? Or the boss? Do you know who we are? I advise you to let us go now. Otherwise, the wrath of our organization is something you won't be able to handle."
Carl, having already been tipped off by Red Queen, was aware of Sharon's covert actions. He casually walked up behind her and made an inappropriate move, his hand reaching toward her chest.
Sharon Carter reacted swiftly, grabbing his wrist and attempting to twist it, trying to push him onto the nearby table to subdue him.
But when she applied force, she realized her hand had no control—her grip loosened on its own.
Carl, using his telekinesis, controlled her temporarily, and without hesitation, reached for her again.
Sharon Carter felt her body lose control. She struggled with all her might, trying to regain it from the invisible force.
Gritting her teeth, she muttered, "You perverted bastard... and you're also a power enhancer?"
Carl chuckled, tightening his grip with a deliberate gesture, retaliating against her disrespect. He mockingly teased, "Power enhancer? That's what you S.H.I.E.L.D. people call it, right? To be honest, I prefer when beautiful women like you call me 'master,' especially in bed."
Sharon Carter was infuriated by his groping hands, but as a charming female operative, she had faced similar situations countless times. Her intent in provoking Carl was to gather more information from him.
And, just as she had hoped, she got a response.
Sharon Carter's eyes widened in surprise. "You know about S.H.I.E.L.D.? You dare capture us knowing who we are?"
Carl's expression remained unchanged as he locked eyes with her. "Don't try to fish for information. Agent Carter, I won't kill you just yet. I don't want to go to war with S.H.I.E.L.D. right now. I just need you to stay here quietly for a month, and then I'll let you go."
"Go to war? A small arms dealer like you thinks you can go to war with S.H.I.E.L.D.? You must be dreaming," Sharon Carter retorted, both to provoke him further and genuinely curious where Carl's audacity came from.
