Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Appearance of the Supreme Sorcerer, Ancient One
Crack!
After falling from the sky, a crisp sound of bones breaking echoed through the air.
The intense pain instantly jolted Rhodey out of his unconscious state.
"Ahh! My leg, no!"
Looking down, Rhodey's face turned pale with horror as he saw his right leg twisted grotesquely to the left, sharp pain radiating through the nerves.
It was clear—his leg was broken!
"Hiss! Ahh!" Rhodey screamed weakly, his body wracked with agony.
Seeing Wanda not only effortlessly defeat Rhodey, but also stand there, clearly enjoying the sight of her enemy writhing in pain, made Carl shudder. When had Wanda become so violent?
Soon, Wanda, having had her fill of the spectacle, turned and looked toward Carl, surprised. "You haven't dealt with Stark yet?"
Carl spread his hands, laughing bitterly. "You know my strength is still a bit lacking. If I'm not the one being dealt with, I'll count myself lucky. If it weren't for the Red Queen sending two Iron Man suits to temporarily hold him off, I'd probably be the one running away!"
Upon hearing her man's self-deprecating tone, Wanda, who had just easily disposed of her enemies, felt her crimson energy flare up. Without hesitation, she flew toward Carl.
Her face turned cold. "Let me take care of him! Die, Stark!"
Carl watched as Wanda, enveloped in a red glow, descended like a warrior goddess, landing directly between Tony and the two grey-white suits of armor.
Tony, realizing the situation was off, turned to see Rhodey lying on the ground, clutching his leg and wailing. He didn't forget to remind Tony.
"Tony, ahh, be careful of that crazy woman!"
The Iron Man suits scattered into a pile of metal fragments, clattering to the ground.
Tony frowned in concern for his friend Rhodey's injuries. But with the battle not yet over, he asked irritably, "What have you done to Rhodey?"
Wanda, seeing her long-time enemy before her, could barely contain the desire to tear him apart with her Chaos Magic. She was too enraged to explain, so without further ado, she launched several blasts of chaotic magic.
"You crazy woman!" Tony cursed as he saw the red energy orbs speeding toward him. He dared not take them head-on—who knew how powerful these things were?
Rhodey was already down; he didn't want to share the same fate.
Tony reacted quickly, using the Mark VII Iron Man suit to dodge the incoming red energy orbs.
Carl, standing off to the side, casually watched the scene unfold. The moment Wanda attacked, Tony was left with only one option: dodging.
After a tense moment of dodging, Wanda grew angry.
"Is that all you do—dodge?"
Suddenly, the crimson glow surrounding Wanda flared brightly. A red beam of light shot out, striking Tony at lightning speed.
Tony didn't have time to react. Or rather, no one could react in time to an attack moving at nearly the speed of light.
He was now in the same peril Rhodey had been in moments earlier.
The air inside the suit was rapidly siphoned away.
Tony found it increasingly hard to breathe.
"What is this ability? Air extraction?"
Jarvis' helpful voice sounded in his earpiece.
"Sir, the air inside the Mark VII is decreasing at an alarming rate. The internal pressure is approaching a vacuum. If immediate action is not taken, the vacuum pressure will cause fatal organ rupture."
Tony's face reddened from the oppressive pressure, unable to open his mouth to respond.
"Ugh."
Seeing Tony in such a dangerous situation, Jarvis quickly calculated and concluded that surrender was the only way out.
However, Jarvis could not control the Iron Man suit to surrender, so it turned on the external speakers and spoke in a somewhat placating tone:
"Tony is about to die from vacuum pressure. Please, madam, show mercy."
Wanda paused when she heard the unfamiliar voice of a man. Wasn't this the Iron Man suit belonging to Tony Stark?
Carl quickly explained, "That's probably Tony's artificial intelligence, Jarvis."
Wanda, now understanding, didn't stop her attack. Instead, her crimson light grew even more intense, driven by the deep hatred within her. She had no intention of sparing Tony's life.
Wanda's sole thought now was to let Stark experience the same despair that had once gripped her when she and Pietro were mere children.
She wanted him to understand what it felt like to face an industrial missile from Stark Industries, falling from the sky only three feet away.
Not to mention, their parents had died in the airstrike from Stark Industries' missiles.
As thoughts of her parents' tragic deaths flooded her mind, Wanda's eyes blazed with an even more intense red light. All that remained in her mind was the singular thought: Stark must die!
Carl noticed Wanda seemed determined to take Tony's life. He furrowed his brow, unsure whether he should intervene and stop the furious Wanda.
After a brief hesitation, Carl realized that if this went on, Tony might really die here.
Just as he was about to speak and try to calm Wanda down, a "zzt zzt" sound suddenly came from Wanda's left side.
A golden circle of light began to form.
The golden ring rapidly expanded to a diameter of about two meters.
Seeing this, Carl's heart skipped a beat, and he swallowed nervously, panic flashing in his eyes.
A woman in monk's robes, bald-headed, stepped out of the golden circle.
She clasped her hands together and introduced herself calmly, "I am the Ancient One, from Kamar-Taj."
Wanda, startled by the sudden appearance of the bald woman, immediately became on edge. The crimson glow in her hands dimmed slightly.
Jarvis, seizing the moment, quickly took control of the Iron Man suit and flew backward more than twenty meters, simultaneously opening the suit to allow Tony to breathe fresh air once more.
Whew, whew… This crazy woman's power is so strong that I couldn't even fight back against that red light.
Tony Stark had nearly died at Wanda's hands. His face was filled with lingering fear as he watched her.
At the same time, he was highly cautious of the bald-headed woman who had just stepped out of the golden ring.
Today had truly opened his eyes. First, he witnessed Wanda's extraordinary magic attacks, and now, he saw a woman emerge from a glowing circle.
Behind the bald woman, the golden ring still hadn't dissipated. On the other side of the ring, it was clearly a library interior!
Tony couldn't help but mutter to himself, "Is this teleportation? Is this real magic? Is there really a legendary sorcerer in this world?"
Seeing Tony's confusion, the Ancient One showed no interest in explaining. She simply stared at Wanda with a serious expression and said:
"If you've calmed down, please spare Tony. You've already gotten what you wanted."
The Ancient One's implication was clear: since Wanda had already punished Tony, there was no need to take his life.
