Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Mount, Princess Black Dragon!
Ego's voice was smooth, almost too smooth, as he addressed the group. "I live in a remote, peaceful place. Why not come back with me? Your friends are welcome too—yes, even the monkey with the triangular head." He gestured toward Rocket with a feigned smile.
Rocket bared his teeth but held his tongue—for once—for Star-Lord's sake.
Ego continued, his tone dripping with sincerity. "There, I can tell you everything about your unique heritage. Finally, I can be the father I always wanted to be."
What he really meant was: Finally, I've found a successor worthy of carrying my plans.
The Guardians exchanged uneasy glances. Sensing they needed time to deliberate, Ego made a show of stepping away, giving them space to talk.
Star-Lord was the first to speak, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "When I was a kid, I used to watch other kids play catch with their dads. I always wanted that. I dreamed of meeting my father someday. I wanted him to play with me, teach me stuff… That was my biggest wish."
Gamora folded her arms. "And what if this is a trap?"
Quill hesitated. He'd thought about it, of course. Half the galaxy had a grudge against him—Yondu, Sovereign, various alien exes—but…
"With power like his, if he wanted to harm me, he wouldn't need to play games," Quill reasoned.
Thor stepped forward, speaking calmly. "He has a point. If Ego wanted to hurt him, I doubt anyone here, myself included, could stop him."
Quill grinned smugly. "See? Even the Asgardian agrees."
Gamora clenched her fists, frustrated but without a strong counterargument. The group fell silent before reluctantly agreeing.
The plan was set: Quill, Gamora, and Drax would accompany Ego to his mysterious planet. Rocket and Baby Groot would stay behind to repair the Milano, while Thor had "other things" to attend to.
Ego's smile widened. His goal was Star-Lord, and the fewer distractions, the better. As much as Ego despised interference, he also knew better than to provoke Thor. As long as Odin breathed, Ego was cautious. He'd rather avoid any entanglement with the Allfather.
As Ego's ship disappeared into the sky with Quill and the others, Rocket returned to his tools, grumbling under his breath. Thor, meanwhile, moved to an open space and summoned the system panel visible only to him.
"Hey! Congratulations to the host for completing the mission: Nickname. Reward: Random Mount Lottery Ticket!"
Thor smirked. "About time. Use it now."
A mystical roulette wheel appeared before him, its images spinning rapidly: magnificent horses, mythical beasts, celestial creatures, and even vehicles from other realms.
Thor's eyes scanned the options. BMW? White Dragon? Magic Carpet? Golden Winged Roc?
The pointer slowed and stopped.
"Congratulations! You have obtained a mount from the 'World Of Warcraft' plane: Black Dragon Princess Onyxia. Item received: Onyxia's Reins."
Thor blinked as the details flashed in front of him.
Onyxia's Reins: The sole item used to summon or retrieve the mount Black Dragon Princess. Enforces absolute obedience to the host's commands.
"Onyxia?" Thor muttered, his eyebrows rising. He recalled fragments of her tragic history: the cunning Black Dragon Princess, daughter of Deathwing, who had infiltrated the Stormwind Kingdom under the guise of a noblewoman. She had corrupted its rulers before being exposed and killed. Adventurers had looted her treasures, resurrected her multiple times, and even turned her into a mount.
Thor couldn't help but feel a pang of pity. Even in death, she's treated like loot.
A deafening roar shook the ground as a massive black dragon appeared in the open field. Her scales gleamed like obsidian, and her serpentine form stretched tens of meters long. She shook her head, looking around in confusion.
"What happened? Am I heading back to Stormwind?" Onyxia's deep, melodic voice rumbled, tinged with frustration.
She turned her gaze to Thor, her massive eyes narrowing. "Sir… can you tell me where this is?"
Thor opened his mouth to respond, but Onyxia's eyes suddenly gleamed with mischief. She inhaled sharply.
Uh oh.
Before he could react, a massive pillar of fire erupted from her mouth, barreling straight toward him.
