Chapter 193: Chapter 193: Are You My Father? I Am Your Grandpa!
Star-Lord eyed Thor suspiciously, then glanced at Rocket, his mind spinning with possibilities. Could they be conspiring against him?
Rocket noticed Quill's expression and crossed his arms, clearly offended. "Hey, what's with that look? Sure, I'd love to see you eat crow, but I've got principles. I don't just accept random nicknames."
Drax burst out laughing. "Quill! Didn't you say you're a real man? Don't chicken out now! Oh, and if you lose, I've got the perfect meal suggestion—something big!"
Quill gagged theatrically. "And what if you lose, huh? What are you eating, Drax?"
Thor grinned and patted his chest confidently. "Deal. I've got this."
Rocket raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised. "Wow. You're that sure, huh?"
Thor's grin turned mischievous. Time to end this.
"Using skill on target Rocket—Brain Damage! Success!"
Thor clapped his hands. "Alright, how about this one: Pippi Bear!"
Rocket froze for a moment, blinking. "Huh…"
Drax doubled over in laughter, his booming voice echoing through the ship. "Hahaha! Pippi Bear! Perfect! Quill, looks like it's time to prove you're a man!"
Quill's jaw dropped. "You—you agreed to Pippi Bear?!"
Rocket rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "Yeah… it's got a nice ring to it."
Thor smirked, folding his arms. "Told you."
Quill's eyes widened, his face pale. "This is ridiculous. There's no way I'm doing—"
Before he could finish, a loud boom shook the Milano, jolting everyone out of their argument.
"Looks like someone's following us from the jump point," Quill said quickly, seizing the opportunity to change the subject.
Rocket checked the monitors. "Oh, great. It's him—the guy who destroyed half the Sovereign fleet with one move."
Everyone grabbed their weapons instinctively, hiding behind Thor. As the pursuing ship—a sleek, capsule-shaped craft—landed nearby, the Guardians waited tensely.
The hatch opened, and two figures emerged: a middle-aged man with a kind but regal air and a woman with antennae sprouting from her forehead.
Thor narrowed his eyes.
Ego.
The middle-aged man stared at Quill for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Finally, he spoke, his voice deep and measured. "After all these years… I've finally found you."
Quill blinked. "Uh… who are you?"
Ego smiled faintly. "I thought my distinguished appearance and aura of wisdom would make it obvious."
He paused dramatically before announcing, "I'm Ego. Your father."
Quill froze, his face blank. Then, without missing a beat, he snapped, "And I'm your grandpa!"
The Milano went completely silent.
Thor bit his lip, struggling to hold back his laughter. "Quill," he said after a moment, "I think he really is your father. You're practically carved from the same mold."
Of course, Thor left out the second half of his thought: And you're just as narcissistic.
But his attempt at diplomacy backfired spectacularly. Quill turned on him, outraged. "Fart! I'm a pure Earthling! If he's my father, I'll—" He hesitated, realizing his predicament. "I'll—uh—live stream myself eating crow!"
Thor's face turned red as he fought to keep a straight face. Quill, you're really digging yourself a hole here.
Rocket, meanwhile, cackled. "Hey, Quill, you already owe a meal for the nickname bet. Finish that one first before you go promising new ones!"
Quill glared at Rocket, but before he could retort, Ego stepped forward, his expression unreadable. For a brief moment, Thor caught a flicker of something darker in Ego's eyes—a glint of menace quickly masked by a kind smile.
"I hired Yondu to bring you to me after your mother passed," Ego said, his voice laden with emotion. "But he kept you instead. I've been searching for you ever since."
Thor watched as the Guardians visibly softened, swayed by Ego's apparent sincerity. Even Quill's expression wavered, though he was still clearly on edge.
"Yondu…" Quill muttered, his brow furrowed. "He didn't hand me over because I was small enough to steal things. That's the only reason he kept me."
Drax tilted his head. "I thought Yondu was your real father. You look exactly like him."
Quill shot him a glare. "He's blue! How could he be my dad?"
Thor stayed quiet, letting Quill vent. The truth is staring him in the face, but he's too stubborn to see it. Yondu had taken Quill to protect him, defying Ego's orders at great personal cost. It was an act of compassion that had gotten Yondu exiled from the Ravagers.
