Chapter 107 – Heliana Arc (18) Humilliation
Veymorr writhed beneath him, clawing at the dirt, voidflame sputtering with every gasp.
Isen sat on his back as though perched on a stone bench, one hand resting lazily on his knee.
"Listen up, kids." His voice was warm, almost cheerful, as if he wasn't pinning down the strongest Eclipse Lord in history. "I'll give you a little lesson. Consider this… Shinrei 101."
Veymorr snarled, trying to rise. In response, Isen casually raised his heel and pressed, the Eclipse Lord's face cratered into the ground with a wet crack.
"First—our Shinrei. The Flame of Emotion." He looked at Kaen, at Rael, at each bloodied youth who still clung to life. "It's not just power. It's alive. It grows, it trembles, it answers only to the strength of your soul. Rage burns red, hope blossoms green, fear… corrodes black. Never forget that."
Veymorr's body twitched. Voidfire gathered at his claws, shaping into a spear of eclipse meant to pierce Isen's heart.
Isen didn't even look. His hand flicked back lazily, batting the weapon aside so hard it dissolved into nothing but ash.
"Second—Vein Gates." His tone shifted, lecturing like a schoolteacher, calm and steady. "Your bodies are lattices of doors. Unlocking them brings power… but also pain. You want Awakening? That's easy. You want the Eclipse Gate? You risk becoming this guy here."
He tapped the back of Veymorr's skull with one finger. The impact wasn't violent but the Eclipse Lord spasmed as if lightning had torn through him.
The kids stared in wide-eyed silence. Kaen's fists trembled, Rael's teeth ground together, Ceyla's breath caught, Juno's jaw tightened, Lira pressed her hands against Rael's wounds while never blinking, and Serin simply gaped.
Isen grinned, tilting his head. "And last, Echo Arts. They're not just attacks. They're you. They're the voice of your soul, shaped into reality. Each of you will carve something different. Even twins are never the same. That's because your hearts aren't the same."
Veymorr roared again, Shinrei surging in a violent spiral, shaking the battlefield.
Isen finally sighed. "Tch. Loud, aren't you?"
He seized Veymorr by the horn and slammed his head sideways into the earth, cracking stone and raising dust. The Eclipse Lord convulsed beneath the weight of his humiliation.
Isen looked back at the kids, smiling warmly, blue eyes calm like the ocean.
"So remember, kids. It's not about having the strongest form, or the flashiest art, or the deadliest affinity. It's about one thing—"
He pushed Veymorr's head down again until the voidflame sputtered into nothing.
"who you are when you wield it."
The battlefield was silent except for the groans of the so-called Eclipse Lord, utterly broken under one man's weight.
Veymorr's roar shook the battlefield, voidflame bursting from his mouth like a storm of shadows. "AURRRGHHHH!!!"
Isen sighed, tilting his head. "Alright, alright… noisy thing, aren't you? Anyway—lesson two."
He yanked Veymorr up by the horn, spinning him effortlessly through the air, and slammed him down on his back with enough force to crater the earth. Dust and shattered stone burst outward in a ring.
"Class, pay attention. This is how you deal with an Eclipse Lord."
He dragged Veymorr's body upright with one hand, ignoring the Eclipse Lord's thrashing claws. With a casual flick of his wrist, he bent Veymorr's arm back until the bones creaked.
"Step one: don't let their size fool you. No matter how 'final form' they look, their joints still bend like anyone else's." CRACK. Veymorr howled as Isen dislocated his shoulder in one smooth twist.
Kaen's eyes widened. (He's… he's treating him like a sparring dummy…?!)
Ceyla covered her mouth, both horrified and awestruck.
Isen continued, voice light, almost bored. "Step two: never fight their power head-on. Redirect. Use their weight against them."
He let Veymorr swing a massive void-cloaked fist then caught it with two fingers, spun, and hurled the Eclipse Lord over his shoulder like a sack of grain. The ground shattered again, Veymorr's body carving a trench in the battlefield.
Lira whispered, trembling. "…He's… toying with him."
Juno grit his teeth, sweat dripping down his brow. (So this… this is the gulf between us and him.)
Isen dusted his hands, standing over the broken Eclipse Lord. He crouched slightly, patting Veymorr's horn as if scolding a pet.
"And step three: don't give them respect they don't deserve. Fear feeds them. Mockery… breaks them."
He lifted his boot and pressed it gently on the back of Veymorr's neck, pinning him flat to the ground again.
The Eclipse Lord's entire body trembled not with rage alone, but humiliation. The world's most feared wraith, reduced to a prop in someone else's lesson.
Khael stared, lips parting in disbelief. "(Damn… he's really making an Eclipse Lord… a toy.)"
Isen looked back at the kids, flashing his warm, infuriatingly casual grin.
"Any questions before I continue the demonstration?"
Kaen straightened, still trembling, and forced out a reply.
"None."
Rael smirked weakly. "Me too."
Khael raised a hand lazily. "None taken."
Lira and Ceyla only nodded quickly, eyes still locked on the absurd scene.
Juno gritted his teeth, muttering under his breath. "Damn…"
Isen clapped his hands together cheerfully. "Good. Everyone's on the same page. Then—let's continue the lesson."
He bent down and seized Veymorr by the throat, effortlessly lifting the Eclipse Lord's massive, void-wrapped body like he weighed nothing. The wraith's wings twitched helplessly, voidflames sputtering.
Inside, Veymorr's thoughts cracked like glass.
"(Please… kill me… end this humiliation…)"
Tears, black and glimmering with void essence, streamed from the corners of his eyes.
Isen tilted his head curiously, watching. Then he leaned closer with a boyish grin.
"…Wait. Are you crying?"
The battlefield froze.
Even Kaen, Rael, and the others blinked in disbelief. The Eclipse Lord of Wrath—breaker of armies, killer of heroes was weeping like a beaten child.
Isen tapped his cheek with one finger, mock-thoughtful.
"Aw, don't cry. I haven't even gotten to the advanced section of the lecture yet."
He tossed Veymorr onto the ground like garbage, the impact shaking the ruins. Then he turned to the kids again, utterly unfazed.
"Now then—where were we? Ah, yes. How to properly defeat an Eclipse Lord"
The sound of Veymorr's sobbing mixed with his broken growls of rage, a monster torn between fury and despair.
Khael whispered, barely audible.
"…He's not just fighting him. He's dismantling him."
