Chapter 99: Lena exclaimed, having contributed nothing to the battle
The war for the Gummy Bear Kingdom raged on, it seemed. The Dragonkin Soldiers proved superior as they pressed their attack. They were gaining ground, pushing the gummy bear forces back towards what looked like a massive gingerbread fortress in the distance. Small formations of Dragonkin, no bigger than five housecats stacked on top of each other, swarmed the lumbering Gummy Bear Berserkers and targeted their sticky limbs and sugary joints with their crystallized spears.
Crystal shards rained down as Dragonkin warriors chipped away at the Berserkers' hardened bodies, weakening their structures before delivering a final, shattering blow with a candy-cane spear or a crystallized broadsword.
"The dragon things got a determination boost from our arrival!" Lena exclaimed, having contributed nothing to the battle.
"They better finish it quickly so we can return," Anders said.
Then, a shadow even larger than Ducaz's candy dragon fell across the battlefield. Combatant looked up in awe as the Candy Dragon Queen descended from the twilight sky. From atop her head out popped a quest.
Without preambling, the Queen unleashed her fury. Instead of the searing caramel breath she'd used before, a torrent of scalding hot chocolate erupted from her maw. The molten deluge rained down upon the clustered ranks of Gummy Bear Berserkers, dissolving the gummy bears into puddles. Her roar seemed to have inspired the Dragonkin to fight with even greater ferocity, as they advanced even faster than before.
Marin's horse came to a sudden halt, skidding slightly on a patch of melted gummy. "What do we do now?" There was no more foe to fight.
Why does she need help then?

He accepted the sidequest.
The Gummy Bear Berserkers, what remained of their sticky ranks, finally broke. With panicked roars that sounded like squelching bubbles, they retreated across the vast marshmallow plains. Their destination was the gingerbread fortress. Its walls, thick and dark, seemed to absorb the twilight glow of the Candy Realm.
The Candy Dragon Queen soared after them. She angled her descent, her mighty jaws opening wide, and unleashed another torrent of scalding hot chocolate. But as her molten breath splattered against the gingerbread walls, something unexpected happened. It sizzled and steamed, a cloud of cocoa-scented vapor rising into the air, but the gingerbread didn't melt. It didn't even char. The dark, sturdy walls stood firm.
The Candy Dragon Queen, having cleared a significant swath of the battlefield, landed majestically, causing the marshmallow ground to ripple. She swept her gaze over the human party before finally resting her eyes on the dissolving gummy bear remains.
"Hmph!" she huffed, a puff of condensed cocoa-scented steam escaping her nostrils. "It has been well baked, so it can withstand heat."
Well baked? To withstand heat? That makes absolutely no sense! If it's baked, it's been exposed to heat. That's how baking works! You make it hard with heat! So, if anything, more heat should make it soft again, or burn it, or at least make it soggy, not... not make it resistant!
[PER +1 for Logical Thinking]
Wait. I'm rewarded for THINKING? Then why haven't I been rewarded BEFORE then?! Are you saying I haven't used my brain before?!

Hold on… Why are you giving me another PER…
Ducaz's dragon made a landing nearby. Ducaz dismounted, adjusting his goggles and surveying the impregnable gingerbread walls.
"Well now, that's a sticky wicket," Ducaz observed, hands on his hips. He took a few steps closer to the fortress, peering intently at its surface. He then tapped a finger against the dark gingerbread. "My Queen, with all due respect to your... baking insights," he said, giving the Queen a side-eye, "I think there's more at play here than just culinary expertise." He straightened up. "I think the castle has been imbued with magic. Rogue magic."
"Is that so?" The queen narrowed her eyes. "What kind of magic is it?"
Ducaz paused for a moment, then a sly grin spread across his face. "Do you use human money?"
