Chapter 79: Exploration-1

The two team head out for their separate mission leaving Cody to deal with Noah when he eventually wakes up. Even though his injuries looks awful, they knew he had terrible healing abilities. Reason? No one knew it yet because he himself didn't know what was wrong with his body after passing through.

Milo and Cyra the fastest among them were on a scouting run to intercept enemy position. They had to head downhill while avoiding monster hideout that were overflowing. It was much more tougher mission than Julia, Jake and Bijan's mission of setting up a forward base in the cave that they recently cleared.

Bijan was leading as he could tank the damage utilizing his earth abilities that enhanced his durability. He kept it on while moving, it was slow but they weren't that far away from the cave and the terrain was fairly flat. They had already scouted the cave and dealt with the extinction level threat, the Alpha Canis. There shouldn't be any more strong monsters inside.

" Julia, just stay at the back. Jake always keep covering our back, I feel like there should be few stranglers left that must be attracted by the beast's roar." Bijan reminded them. It was true that boss level monsters had skills and prestige to command other units in their command.

They never saw any Canis supporting their leader during the fight but it just could be that Noah was able to take it down so quickly that it didn't have time to react. If there were left over mutated wolves, they must have returned back and saw their leader mangled corpse which could lead them to go berserk.

Bijan has seen it happen countless times during his previous incursions. The two greenhorns followed his command always staying alert, keeping their rifles steady and prep for any sudden attacks.

As soon as they reached the entrance, three shadows came crawling out trying to ambush them. Bijan directly intercepted their deadly charge while Jake quickly took out his special riot shield to come in front of Julia. She was only startled for a millisecond before she started shooting.

Bijan had already instructed them to not care about him. His only weakness were his joint area so even if Julia accidently shot him in the back, he will come out of unscathed but she wasn't novice anymore perfectly directing her bullet through the openings she found while Bijan wrestled with the beast.

Jake was more practical pulling out his heavy handgun that only he was able to use because of his massive build. It was slightly worse than rifle but at least he could fire it with one hand while keeping the wolves at bay.

" These are just young wolves. They are not coordinating their attack so just keep on attacking!" Bijan roared. Just from looking at their size, he knew that all the adults might have perished. These wolves be under the Alpha's protection but since their 'guardian' was gone, there was no one to lead them.

They were still at the entrance constantly fighting and soon manage to take down twenty of them. Jake and Julia were panting but Bijan looked like he hardly had enough. After years of training, he have learned to control the flow of battle so that he didn't lose his breath to give his opponent an opening.

" Good work guys." He smiled obviously impressed by these kids. Canis might be lower on the totem pole of dangerous monsters, relying on their initial charge and fast movement to overwhelm their opponent but both kids reacted swiftly and dealt with changing situation without getting scared or anxious.

Bijan knew what mattered most in such situation was one needed to keep their mind still and think clearly. If they started panicking looking at wolf's ferocious appearance, it would be game over before the first clash.

" Thanks." Jake said patting off the blood and grim off his shield while Julia quickly reloaded her managizes like Noah taught her to do. He always emphasize not to let their guard down after battle and always be ready for the next attack so as to not get caught off guard.

Bijan nodded seeing that they were methodical and moved like a machine checking their equipment and staying alert. Now, he fully believed that they should be the ones to take down hundreds of adult Canis yesterday and not how he thought that only Noah acting on their behalf trying to prop them up for face value.

Julia took out some replenishment drink and some high sugar food to quickly charge their energy. Bijan was curious about such novel food, he never saw such things before. Even the packaging felt foreign to him, it solidified his idea of Noah being able to summon things to existence which he briefly talked about last night.

It was insane to think that such a branch of magic exist in the world, at least he never heard of it neither his master ever mentioned such a thing before but the proof was right in front of his eyes. When he bit into the energy bar, he suddenly felt a surge of energy entering his body.

It wasn't violent in nature instead it was much calmer refilling his magic effortlessly. He was dumbfounded finding such a thing. The kids might not know such a feeling because they weren't sorcerers like him. He had been manipulating magic for many years, he was highly sensitive to changes of his body.

" D-did he gave you this thing too?" He couldn't help but ask in disbelief.

" Yes, teacher said eating sweet food would outdo some of the fatigue so that we could push ourselves but he also told us not to eat it too much saying something about a 'sugar-rush' that could make our body lethargic." Julia answered. She remembered all the details, she was quite good at it which was why Noah assign her to lead the team in case he and Tang were out of commission.

"Lethargic? Is that magic overload?" Bijan thought but he knew these kids wouldn't know anything about it. If he had such a food during battle wouldn't it be possible for him to fight for whole day without stopping? There must be some side effects to such a medicine! He remembered to ask him about it when he wakes up.

While their expedition was smooth sailing, Cyra and Milo were struggling. Unlike Cyra who specialize in agility, Milo was having a tough time trying to keep up with her. Not to mention she could instantly climb a tree using it's branches to move around swiftly while he had to run through the dense forest on his own!

They met their first opponent after travelling downhill for few miles. As soon as Cyra gave the signal, Milo quickly hid himself in the bush looking ahead seeing what the new monster looked like.
