Chapter 7: Chapter 07
Elena wiped the sweat from her brow, crouched low in the small cabin she'd stumbled upon her frantic escape. She noticed the ruined structure. Infested woods and broken windows, it was obvious that it had been abandoned.
Her body ached, every muscle protesting after hours of running through the dense of forest. She glanced down at her gear, her fingers trembling slightly as she checked her weapons. The silver dagger she'd managed to hold onto was dull, its edge chipped from use. Her backup knife was still intact but her pistol was gone, lost in the chaos of the earlier fight.
"Fantastic" she muttered under her breath.
She leaned against the cabin wall, her crimson eyes scanning the darkened woods through a crack in the planks.
"It's quiet" she murmured narrowing her eyes "Too quiet"
She steadied herself; she knew she had to run but where?
"Damn it, I should have listened to Stacy when she said I should carry back up" she cursed, checking her surroundings.
Her mind raced thinking of options, when he flashed through her memory.
"Seriously Elena thinking of him at a time like this" she hit her head with her palm. Why was she thinking of Liam? He's a monster; she shouldn't get help from him. But the way he fought, his impossible speed and strength, the raw…..
"Stop it Elena, focus" she said to herself. "Werewolves are dangerous, unpredictable and more often than not, killers"
A sudden shift in the air snapped her out of her thoughts. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on the end, and a chill raced down her spine.
Elena grabbed her dagger, holding it close as she pressed herself against the wall.
The cabin door creaked, barely audible, but enough to make her grip tighten.
With a burst of speed, she rolled away from the wall, spinning to face the intruder.
The figure that stepped into the moonlight gave her chills.
Pale skin that almost glowed, crimson eyes that burned with hunger, and a presence that seemed to suck warmth out of the air.
"A vampire" Elena stared in shock "What are you doing in wolf territory?"
Its lips curled into chilling smile, revealing elongated fangs. "What a surprise," it purred ignoring her question, its voice smooth and mocking. "A hunter, all alone in the woods. How delightful."
Elena lunged forward, her dagger aimed for the creature's heart.
"Tsk…tsk, too slow my dear" The vampire sidestepped her attack with ease, its laughter echoing in the confined space.
Elena placed her hand on the floor, raising her body up, swinging her legs to give it a kick.
But it sidestepped again, catching her foot and tossing her to the wall of the cabin. She broke through the wall and landed with a loud thud on the clearing.
Before she could recover, another figure landed at the ground beside the vampire.
Her heart pounded as she rose to her feet. Her hands tightened around her dagger. "Two vampires," she said, her voice steady. "Must be my lucky night."
The first vampire lunged, its claws aiming for her head. Elena ducked, the tips of its nails grazing her wounded shoulder as she rolled to the side. She came up swinging; her dagger sliced the creature across the cheek.
It hissed, recoiling as it placed its hands on the wound. The cut sizzled, the silver burning its flesh.
"Not so funny now, is it?" Elena snapped with a smirk on her face.
Cold hands closed around her wrist with a vice-like grip, twisting it. She cried out, her dagger falling to the ground with a dull thud.
"You'll pay for that," the injured vampire snarled, its eyes glowing brighter as it advanced on her.
Elena struggled against the grip of the second vampire, her free hand clawing at its arm. "Let… go!"
The vampire holding her smirked, its strength overwhelming. "Oh, we're going to have so much fun with you. "he gave a sinister chuckle as he traced his fingers on her boobs.
The injured one loomed closer, its fang bared.
Elena's pulse raced, she stared at her boot then smirked. She kicked out, her boot connecting with the injured vampire's chest sending it stumbling back. The one holding her tightened its grip pulling her closer as its fangs descended towards her neck.
Then it paused, their crimson eyes narrowing as it glanced at the cabin. A low, guttural growl cut through the air.
Elena turned her head, her breath catching at the sight of the massive wolf standing at the doorway. Its fur was dark as night, its golden eyes blazing with fury.
The injured vampire sneered. "Well, well. Look who's here to play hero"
Liam didn't answer. With a snarl, he launched himself at the vampires.
