Chapter 23: The Black-Haired Woman
(Drakken's POV)
After a few minutes of walking through the forest, following the source of the magic that I sensed earlier, I came across a small stream. I heard the loud chirping of birds in the distance and felt the presence of some animals.
I looked around, seeing that the ambiance was as natural as a forest could be. But the presence of something magical was still there, which irked me.
"Hm...." I said as I turned around and stopped, "Hm?"
I turned to my left, seeing that something was among the shadows. The source of magic was honed down to right there, next to a tree that was approximately 35 meters to my left.
I narrowed my eyes and took a step forward and immediately moved my head to dodge an arrow shot right at me.
"Hm." I said as a slight smirk appeared on my face, "Interesting..."
I took another step and another arrow flew right at me, this one I caught with ease. It was clear; there was a person in the shadows next to the tree and that person was the source of the magic I sensed.
I took yet another step and another arrow flew right at me. This was was deflected by my telekinetic barrier which I immediately deployed.
I heard a slight gasp and I immediately rushed towards the spot, using my enhanced speed to cover the distance in a split second.
I appeared behind what looked like a woman, draped in a strange Ranger hood, "Hello there." I said with a slight smirk, "You have to be a better shot."
She jumped up in surprise and immediately turned around, swinging a knife at my throat without saying a word.
I allowed the dagger to pierce my flesh, feeling the cold steel plunge through the warmth of my softened meat, which I purposely turned vulnerable.
I smirked as I felt blood pour down my neck and to my chest, showing no other reaction, "Ho? Right for the throat, I like that." I said with a chuckle, "Feisty."
The woman widened her dark eyes as she stepped back, letting go of the blade, leaving it stuck in there.
"W-What?" she said, her voice a bit deep yet calm
I looked at her more clearly, she was a bit short yet had a nice curvaceous body that was covered by the cloak she wore. Her hair was long and black, as dark as a raven's feathers. Her eyes were also black, so dark that it looked like I was peering into my own soul...what a joke that was, eh?
I grabbed the knife and slowly pulled it out my throat, unfazed by the pain that was barely there, "You..." I said as dropped it to the ground, feeling the wound close, "What is your deal?"
She stepped back, holding a bow on her left hand as she stared in pure shock, "I...." She said, "What....?"
She was still processing what she saw. I love doing that to people.
I couldn't help but noticed that she had a strange magical attribute. It felt....natural....attuned to the nature around us. I couldn't explain it but she did not strike me as a Druid nor a Ranger.....but yet....the Nature affinity was exuded from her body.
"You're not a Targaryen, are you?" I tilted my head, "No.....black hair...black eyes.....What are you?"
She straightened up, gulping, "I....I could ask you the same thing..." She said, "What the hell are you? Some sort of monster?"
I smirked, "No."
"T-Then what?" She asked as she hardened her composure, "What were you doing near the Weirwood Tree?"
"Weirwood?" I asked with a frown, "Oh, the tree with the face. Is that what you call it? Nothing really, I was just drawn to it.....it's strange....you and the tree exude some sort of magical attribute..your scent...it reeks of...beast...and.....wood....."
"What?" She said with a frown, "Black hair....red eyes.....you're not a Targaryen either....what were you doing on that dragon? How were you riding one?"
"You saw me?" I asked, "How?"
"I...." She stepped back, "I will not say."
I chuckled, "Woman." I said, "What is your name?"
"I..." She started, "Why would you-"
I snapped her fingers and she was frozen in place, which she realized almost right away. Her eyes widened in fear and shock, which was understandable; she stabbed me in the throat and I didn't react to it.
I walked over to her, scanning her body, "You are a strange creature, are you not?" I said with a raised eyebrow, "You reek of magic...."
Her hood covered most of her body, which I decided to remove, revealing her to be wearing leather pants and a dark red button-up shirt. Her curves were clearly shown now and I would like to say that she had a nice structure.
But I didn't remove her clothes to gawk at her, no....
"What sorcery is this?!" She exclaimed
"Telekinesis." I said as I walked around her, scanning every inch of her body, "Interesting...."
"What are you staring at...?!" She exclaimed
"You don't seem to be covered in runes." I said as I circled her and stood in front of her, "Strange."
I reached for her face, moving a bit of hair from her face, seeing her eyes.
"Runes...?" She said as she looked at me
"The Targaryens exude a magic that is imbued to their blood, a draconic attribute." I said as I ran my finger down her cheek, gently, attuning my senses to her body, "But you.....hm....it appears that due to the setting, the magic in your blood is enhanced, giving off a more vibrant feeling....so.....what are you?"
She frowned, "I..."
I leaned in an sniffed her neck, catching a whiff of a serpent, "You are a sorceress..." I said, "You can control animals as familiars...but it's different than regular Druid bonding....or a Ranger's bond with their familiar....no...the attribute was nearly identical to that serpent..."
"How....?" She said as she was still kept in place
"Let's play a game." I said as I pulled away, "You tell me one thing about yourself and I will do the same. If you cooperate, I'll spare your life for driving a knife through my throat."
This is my favorite bargain to make; I allow mundane people to stab me, a wound that should be lethal, and not be fazed by it. The mere sight of that would strike fear in their hearts, telling them that I am not normal. I would then make a deal with them, obtaining information from them in exchange for their lives.
"F-Fine..." She scowled
"What is your name?" I asked
"Mya Rivers...." She said with a frown
"Rivers?" I asked, "What sort of House name is that? Not very creative."
"I'm not from a House....." She said, "I am a bastard."
"Oh." I said, "A bastard. Bastards are named?"
"Yes..." She said, "Enough of this, it's your turn."
"Ah, yes." I said, "Well, ask away."
"What are you?" She asked with a scowl, "You are not a man."
I smirked, "I am a god...." I said with a chuckle, "The God of War and Death, Drakken."
She looked at me, "A god?" She said, "That's not possible. There is no god named Drakken, not among the Old Gods and New Gods."
"What would you know?" I said, "So tell me, what are you?"
"Well, I am a bastard..." She said with a serious frown, "But I already said that....but what I truly am.....I am a Greenseer...."
"A Greenseer..." I said as I walked around her, "Interesting....attuned to Nature, are you? What exactly is that? Do you.....what, pour your conscience in animals and control them? Is that it?"
"Sounds like you have it right..." She said, "Can you let me go?"
"So you're a Bastard...right? Do every bastard, lowborn and highborn, get the name Rivers?" I asked
"It's...." She said, "You're not Westerosi, are you?"
"No." I said
"It's the name for bastards in the Riverlands...." She said, "Every region has a different name."
"Oh....what is the name for the Crownlands?" I asked
"W-Waters..." She said
"Dumb name." I said, "Rivers....that's a much better name."
"I don't care for it..." She said, "And only highborn bastards get named...at least I think so...."
"Makes sense. Commonfolk don't typically have surnames....." I said, "Oh well...what Lord fathered you?"
"L-Lord Blackwood...." She said
I walked back in front of her, "Blackwood? What kind of name is that?" I said, "Blackwood.....ha! That's an amusing name for a Noble House!"
She looked at me, "Can you let me go now?"
I snapped my fingers, "Fine." I said, "Just know that you try to do something and I'll rip your limbs apart."
She stumbled back, "Ah..." She said as she looked at me, "What were you doing near the Weirwood Tree anyways?"
"I told you, I was drawn by its magic." I said, "And by yours....Greenseer, huh?"
She rubbed her wrist, "Okay...." She said, "You're not with the Brackens, right?"
"The what now?" I raised my eyebrow
"House Bracken." She told me, "You're not with them, right?"
"No, I don't think so. Why?" I asked
"Right now, those scum are entering our territory and messing with my Father's people." She said, "He told me to guard the Weirwood Trees and kill any Bracken that is in our land...At this point, the Brackens will start a war with House Blackwood."
My ear tingled slightly, "Hmmmm???" I said with a curious smile, "What did you say?"
"A War?"
