House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men

Chapter 10: The Big Guy

(Third Person POV)

[The Red Keep]

King Jaehaerys marched his way down the hallway, "What in the seven hells do you mean that he's here in the City, much less the pit?!" He bellowed, "Didn't Aemon say he was still in the Stormlands?!"

Septon Barth was walking next to him, "Your Grace, the reports matched up with the activities from prior." He said with sweat rolling down his cheek, "There were fires and missing people across a couple of towns for a couple of days. Nothing but chaos!"

Jaehaerys scowled, "By the gods, Barth!" He exclaimed, "My children were involved, my daughter and my son!!"

"I understand, Your Grace." Barth said, "He will pay for this."

They turned the corner and saw Queen Alysanne crouching down seeing Princess Alyssa and holding her face as the young girl looked shaken up. Behind Alyssa, Prince Baelon stood holding his sword, Dark Sister.

"Baelon!" Jaehaerys said, "What happened?!"

Baelon looked at him with surprise, "F-Father!"

Alysanne looked at him, "Husband."

Jaehaerys reached them, "What were you two doing at the dragonpit?!" He said with a serious scowl, "How many times have I told you not to leave the Keep without my leave?! Why couldn't you obey my orders this time?!"

Baelon frowned, "I'm sorry, Father. It's my fault..." He said as he looked away

Jaehaerys looked at Alyssa, "It was you, was it not?" He said, "It is your rebellious attitude that has nearly gotten the two of you killed!"

Alyssa looked at her father, "I...."

"Jaehaerys, enough." Alysanne stood up, "Leave her be. They were only trying to see Dreamfyre. She had been thinking of claiming her. How could they have known that there was danger lurking about in the pit?"

"Sorry, Father..." Alyssa said

"It's the Dragonpit, woman, danger is always there!" Jaehaerys exclaimed, "Baelon, you fool, what the hell happened?!"

"Father..." Baelon said with a serious expression, "I stabbed the man in the back and he did not die."

Septon Barth widened his eyes, "What did you say?"

Jaehaerys looked at him, "What?"

"It's true. He held Alyssa by the throat, pinned against the wall." Baelon explained, "So I went behind him and stabbed him. I plunged Dark Sister through his back and he did not seem bothered by it. He was merely intrigued by it. He is not a man....."

"Prince Aemon was shaken up about him displaying unnatural abilities." Septon Barth said, "He must be some blasphemous sorcerer. Your Grace, this must be dealt with at once....."

"Where's Aemon?" Jaehaerys said, "Close the City Gates now, nobody gets in and out. I want all of my children in the Red Keep, lock it down at once!!"

(Drakken's POV)

"The art of misdirection...." I said as I walked up to a lit torch that was hanging from the wall, "Quite the impressive thing I am capable of....."

After I had that encounter with the two children, I made it seem like I was going to leave this hole. I walked out, punched a couple of those shepherd-looking fellas and walked right out the place. Of course, they would alert the guards so I made it seem like I went into the city.

But I never left, I simply cloaked myself and went right back into the caverns and waited. I have quite the patience to make sure that the attention was placed outside of this place. If my calculations are correct, only those shepherd guys would be here so I can begin to analyze these dragons.

I walked down a corridor, feeling the egg on the satchel that I found earlier as it was strapped around my shoulder.

"Hm..." I said as I turned a corner, "I wonder if I've caused enough of a ruckus to start playing around for real."

Misdirection. That's what I did a few days back. After I left the Prince, I went around and caused a couple of fires, beat some people up, and left some bodies. Not like I killed anyone, I simply cloaked the ones from the men who assaulted me prior to the prince's arrival and scattered them around the place. I didn't think it would work and that they didn't recognize them. It was kind of effortless, I did not think the people of this world were that stupid.

Nobody got seriously hurt though, I would not just murder innocents. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But watching them scatter around in fear was fun to watch.

"As for the eggs...." I said as I stopped, "I ought to take it easy now....I'm in the middle of a good power source. I cannot drain the honey too fast now...with the siphoning of the red one, I've kickstarted the slow regeneration of my Ether. With time, my power will rise...."

I looked around, feeling a strange source of power in the distance. I don't know how deep I was in this place. I'm pretty sure that up in the city, the entire place is being turned upside down looking for me. I want to confirm a couple of things before skipping town and going and do my own thing.

The smart move is to just leave these things be, they're a fucking disappointment; just a bunch of fire-breathing wyverns, that's all. I got excited, thinking I was going to see some actual Dragons but whatever.

I have to start thinking of a long-term plan, though. If I am stuck here and all these dragons have the ability to feed me some power, I have to think about this rather than just drain them all like a voracious hog.

I stopped walking and felt it again; the strange source of draconic power. It was like it was calling for me, drawing me in like a magnet.

I frowned, "What is that?"

I felt a sudden gust of wind as a loud rumbling was heard. It sounded like it came from a massive creature and that suddenly piqued my interest.

"Oh?" I said as I walked forwards

I made my way through a large cavern entrance, which looked to be much larger than all the other caverns. It didn't make any sense; how was something this large capable of being under a city? It would definitely be unstable, but who knows? I certainly don't know much about this place.

I felt the source of power to be closer and closer and I kept walking.

I then felt another gust of wind and heard a deep growl, my entire bones beginning to vibrate.

"Huh?" I said as I waved the torch forward and widened my eyes with surprise, "Oh. Well, look at you, eh?"

In front of me, I was looking at the snout of a massive 'dragon'. It was ridiculously large, black-scaled, and had large red eyes that stared right at me. Its eyes looked tired and the closer I looked at its snout, its scales and plates looked a bit worn out and aged.

I whistled as I waved the torch around to illuminate the mountainous shadow in front of me, "Look at this specimen here." I said with a chuckle, "You're quite big for a Wyvern, aren't you? Not even Royal Wyverns get this big. No, this size is reserved for the Archdragons.....wow.....what are you? You are no ordinary 'dragon', aren't you?"

The black dragon looked at me, it's tired eyes followed me as I walked to its left, trying to get a glimpse of its massive wings that were laid to the side. I could feel the heartbeat of his old heart, slowly beating.

This big guy, whatever he was. He was the most impressive thing I have seen in this world so far.

"Oh boy...." I said with a smirk, "I bet you were a wonder, weren't you? Flying about in the sky. The Prince seemed to be bonded with his red monstrosity, I wonder if someone was bonded with you.....What kind of Man....or Woman.....rode such a behemoth like you? I am starting to get curious...."

Maybe this world isn't so mundane after all.
