Chapter 72: Chapter 73: The Holiday Training Begins
[Disciple Uchiha Shisui diligently practiced, achieved perfect results in the academic evaluation, and earned rewards: Chakra +300, Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll.]
[Disciple Might Guy diligently practiced, achieved excellent results in the academic evaluation, and earned rewards: Chakra +250.]
[Disciple Uchiha Obito diligently practiced, achieved good results in the academic evaluation, and earned rewards: Chakra +200.]
After receiving the rewards for the final exam, Mikazuki's total chakra slightly increased again.
[Name: Hanyu Mikazuki]
[Chakra: 12050]
"It seems like only being the top scorer earns proficiency scrolls as rewards," Mikazuki thought as he reviewed the three reward notifications from the system.
Apart from Shisui, who had already secured the top spot, Might Guy and Obito both improved significantly.
Last time, Might Guy and Obito only received 150 chakra points each. This time, Might Guy earned 100 more points, and Obito gained 50 extra points.
Both Might Guy and Obito had made notable progress, not only in practical skills but also in their theoretical scores, which had improved considerably, now scoring over 50.
Although the ninjutsu proficiency scrolls were valuable, Mikazuki wasn't planning to have Might Guy and Obito spend too much time aiming for full marks in theory.
Their learning efficiency was just too low.
Even with Mikazuki often tutoring them, Might Guy and Obito could only manage around 50 points. Meanwhile, someone like Anko could easily score full marks without much effort.
Getting Might Guy and Obito to achieve perfect scores would require halting all their other training. Mikazuki would have to dedicate himself entirely to teaching them, making them read and practice problems every day.
But doing so wasn't worth it. It was better to continue normal training and have them become stronger sooner, which would bring Mikazuki more rewards.
"Hehe, Mikazuki-sensei, about that reward you mentioned earlier…" After reprimanding two troublemakers, Anko shyly approached Mikazuki.
"You dare ask for rewards after regressing in your scores?" Mikazuki knocked lightly on Anko's forehead with two fingers.
"That's not true! I still got second place in the practical exam. Shisui is just too strong—it's impossible to beat him!" Anko tried to brush off the criticism.
"I'm talking about your theoretical scores. You dropped by two points compared to last time," Mikazuki pointed out. He remembered everyone's scores clearly.
"Ah, it's all Kotetsu and Izumo's fault!" Anko gritted her teeth, thinking she should punch those two troublemakers again for convincing her to skip revising.
"Here, eat this. But there'll be no reward next time if you regress further," Mikazuki said, eventually giving Anko the dango she desired most.
He had bought the snacks on his way to school, ensuring there was enough for everyone in the class.
"Mikazuki-sensei is the best!" Anko cheered, receiving the dango and immediately singing Mikazuki's praises.
The atmosphere in Class 1-A was quite pleasant. Even after seeing their results and collecting their papers, no one left early. Instead, they stayed to chat in the classroom until noon.
At noon, Mikazuki attended a meeting in the lecture hall alongside other teachers.
Even at the ninja academy, teachers had meetings, though not very often. This time, the meeting focused on summarizing the teaching outcomes of the semester and announcing the list of outstanding teachers.
For Mikazuki, this meeting didn't hold much significance. Unlike regular academy teachers, he wasn't interested in accolades or bonuses.
Unexpectedly, the Third Hokage attended the meeting.
According to Itogai Isamu and Ayaka Ueda, this meeting was usually handled by the head teacher.
"Lord Third," Mikazuki greeted respectfully, bowing to the Hokage.
The Third Hokage glanced at Mikazuki and smiled warmly, nodding in acknowledgment.
Since he wasn't too busy recently, the Hokage had taken a look at the performance of Mikazuki's Class 1-A. What he saw astonished him.
Last time's results were already outstanding. This time, the class had achieved even better scores.
The average theoretical score reached a remarkable 81 points—a level that was considered excellent in other classes. In other words, Class 1-A was uniformly excellent.
The average practical score was 24 points, which was astonishingly high compared to the normal average of 16 points in other classes.
A closer examination revealed that the students excelled particularly in ninjutsu and hand seals. No one in the class scored below 8 points in these areas.
With such exceptional performance, Mikazuki's work deserved recognition. Moreover, the Hokage had not attended a school meeting in a long time, so he decided to make an appearance.
Perhaps because of the Hokage's presence, the meeting proceeded quickly without interruptions.
"Now, I'll announce the outstanding teacher list for this semester: Hanyu Mikazuki…"
Mikazuki's name was called first.
"Mikazuki-sensei, as expected of you," Ayaka Ueda whispered, congratulating him.
Although Mikazuki was unfazed internally, he responded with a gentle smile, acknowledging his colleague's good wishes.
"Itogai Isamu."
"Me? Outstanding teacher!" Itogai's face lit up with joy.
When two of his students ranked first and second in the grade, he suspected he might qualify as an outstanding teacher. Still, hearing his name genuinely delighted him.
This was a prestigious recognition, with only four teachers receiving it each semester. Despite years of teaching, Itogai had never achieved it before.
"Darn it! Why didn't my students suddenly excel like that?" Kimura Samito grumbled enviously.
He didn't envy Mikazuki, as it would be shocking if Mikazuki weren't on the list. But Itogai? That felt unfair, as his success relied heavily on Might Guy and Obito.
"To think you used to complain about them being the worst students. Your recognition is all thanks to them," Ayaka teased.
"It seems I underestimated their true potential," Itogai admitted with a chuckle.
"When I get my bonus, drinks are on me! Mikazuki-sensei, you must join us. I owe much of my success to you," Itogai said, grinning.
"If I have time, I will," Mikazuki replied, smiling.
"I'd like to take a moment to highlight Hanyu-sensei," the Third Hokage began, addressing the room.
He then detailed the remarkable results achieved by Mikazuki's class, urging everyone to learn from his example in nurturing the next generation of Konoha.
After being personally commended by the Hokage, Mikazuki felt the gaze of all the teachers in the room focused on him. Fortunately, his impeccable reputation spared him from any envious or hostile looks—everyone's expression was genuinely kind.
"Mikazuki, you've done well. Keep it up," the Hokage said as he patted Mikazuki's shoulder after the meeting.
"Lord Third, I'll continue to give my all in teaching my students," Mikazuki responded, repeating what he had once said in the principal's office.
The Hokage chuckled heartily, clearly pleased with the response.
With the conclusion of the meeting, Mikazuki and the other teachers officially entered their holiday break.
Despite being named an outstanding teacher and receiving praise from the Hokage, Mikazuki's heart remained unaffected. Instead, he was puzzled as to why Might Guy hadn't triggered any training missions over the past few days.
After some probing, Mikazuki learned it was because Might Guy hadn't yet sparred with Kakashi. Reassured, he realized Kakashi was likely away on a mission.
With the start of the holidays, Mikazuki revealed his special holiday training plan to his disciples.
