Chapter 51: Chapter 51: I’m Done, Get Out of Here
Naruto turned around, still yelling, "This isn't right!"
Danzo's face stiffened as he saw the golden fur. His heart sank once again.
Naruto continued, "Lord Hokage can testify—my surgery fees aren't cheap!" He held up his hand as if calculating. "For you, an elder, I'll be generous. Normally, it would be three million, but I'll break your bones and charge five million."
He grinned. "I expect the money today. If not, I'll hire a specialist in collections to visit your house!" Naruto paused, then added with a mischievous smirk, "Maybe even a fox for the job!"
Danzo's pale face twisted before he rolled his eye and collapsed.
Sarutobi Hiruzen glanced at Naruto, his expression unreadable.
Naruto shrugged, flashing an innocent smile. "Not my fault. His endurance just sucks."
Hiruzen sighed. "Fine, Naruto. I'll talk to Danzo about this."
Naruto nodded, satisfied. He hadn't been serious about the money; he only wanted Hiruzen's acknowledgment. Now, Hiruzen's response meant Danzo wouldn't trouble him anymore.
Naruto considered mentioning the last time Danzo's Root operatives attacked him but decided against it. Even though Hiruzen had been lenient, Naruto didn't want to push his limits.
With his business concluded, Naruto left the Hokage's office and wandered around Konoha.
---
The streets were bustling with villagers, but Naruto felt strangely lonely. Without Iruka, Hinata, or hanging out with Sakura and Sasuke, the days seemed dull. After all, there weren't any phones or games here to pass the time.
When night fell, Naruto returned home. In the quiet of his room, he noticed subtle changes in the sealed space where Kurama resided. Curious, Naruto sat cross-legged on the bed, closed his eyes, and focused his consciousness inward.
---
In the damp, eerie expanse of the sealed space, Kurama, the Nine-Tails, lay resting. The fox's immense body seemed even larger than before.
Absorbing the remnants of the previous Nine-Tails' chakra, Kurama was now at 1.5 times his original strength.
Naruto materialized in the space, and Kurama immediately sensed him.
Standing at the sealed gate, Naruto stared in awe. "Whoa! You've gotten huge!"
Kurama smirked. "Naturally. My size is tied to my chakra. What do you think? Want to let me out again?" The fox's tone was playful, but the power radiating from him was undeniable. "This time, even if that sickly man attacks, I'll swat him like a fly."
Naruto grinned. "Alright, I'll let you out right now!"
Kurama blinked in surprise. "Really?"
Naruto nodded. "When have I ever lied?"
Kurama hesitated. "But what about the follow-up chakra you mentioned?"
Naruto chuckled. "Oh, you mean the extra chakra I can give you? Don't worry, I've got another fox just like you lined up."
Kurama's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "You've got another Nine-Tails? Impressive."
Naruto shrugged. "I figured you'd want more chakra, so I made arrangements."
Kurama's sly grin returned. "Fine. I'll stay put. In return, you can use my chakra freely."
---
Naruto's gaze shifted, noticing a smaller figure in the corner. It was another Nine-Tails, but this one was only about 30 centimeters tall.
Its fluffy tails twitched as it glared at Naruto with fierce, albeit tiny, eyes.
"You! I'll kill you someday!" the miniature fox squeaked, baring its teeth.
Naruto couldn't help but laugh. "It's so small!" He reached out, pinching the back of its neck and lifting it up.
The little fox swiped at him with its tiny paws, growling adorably.
"Why didn't you just get rid of it?" Naruto asked Kurama. "Wouldn't it have been better to absorb all its chakra?"
Kurama chuckled darkly. "Naruto, even if I lose my chakra, I regenerate it over time. By keeping this runt alive, I can absorb its chakra again once it recovers."
Naruto was impressed. "Wow, sustainable energy from a fox. You're smarter than I thought!"
The little Nine-Tails snarled, "You'll regret this! I'll get my revenge!"
Naruto burst out laughing again. "Alright, alright. I'm done here. Get out of here!" He tossed the tiny fox aside.
The miniature Nine-Tails tumbled across the ground, glaring back in disbelief. "You heartless brat! You'll pay for this!"
But as it stomped off, it realized there wasn't much it could do.
---
Satisfied with the situation in the sealed space, Naruto returned to his room and fell asleep.
The next morning, Sasuke appeared at his doorstep, looking determined.
"Naruto," Sasuke began, "I've mastered the Body Flicker Technique. Can we test it in actual combat?"
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "You want a sparring match?"
Sasuke nodded. "We haven't done much since forming the team. I need to see how far I've come."
Naruto thought for a moment. He had been feeling cooped up in Konoha lately. Maybe a change of pace would do them all some good.
"Alright," Naruto agreed. "But let's make it interesting. How about we take a mission and test your skills on the field?"
Sasuke smirked. "Fine by me. Let's go find Kakashi-sensei."
---
At the mission desk, they found Kakashi flipping through his beloved novel.
"Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto called out.
Kakashi looked up lazily. "Oh, Naruto, Sasuke. What's the occasion?"
"We want a mission," Sasuke stated bluntly.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "You've been itching for action, huh?"
Naruto grinned. "Exactly. Got anything fun for us?"
After a moment of consideration, Kakashi nodded. "Alright. There's a request to escort a merchant to the Land of Waves. It's a simple C-rank mission, but it should be enough to stretch your legs."
Naruto and Sasuke exchanged eager glances.
"Perfect," Naruto said. "When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow morning," Kakashi replied. "Get some rest and meet at the village gate at sunrise."
---
The rest of the day passed quickly as Naruto prepared for the journey. That night, he sat by his window, staring at the moon. Despite his excitement, a small part of him felt uneasy.
"Things never go as planned," he muttered to himself.
As if on cue, Kurama's voice echoed in his mind. "Don't get cocky, brat. Trouble always finds you."
Naruto smirked. "Good thing I've got you, then."
Kurama chuckled. "Just don't get me killed, idiot."
---
The next morning, Team 7 gathered at the gate. Tazuna, the merchant they were escorting, greeted them with a skeptical look.
"You kids are my guards?" Tazuna asked, eyeing them critically.
Naruto grinned. "Don't worry, old man. You're in good hands."
Sasuke smirked confidently, while Sakura rolled her eyes.
Kakashi waved his book. "Let's get moving."
As they set off, Naruto felt a familiar sense of anticipation. This mission might start as a simple escort job, but deep down, he knew it wouldn't stay that way for long.
