"You... What do you want to do? It's best to let me go, otherwise... uh."
Hyuga Hoshishi tried to struggle, but his body refused to obey him.
Shigeru used a single finger to deliver a precise strike, forcefully interrupting Hoshishi's attempt at spellcasting.
"Waste!"
The word "waste" exploded in Hoshishi's mind like a thunderclap. His white pupils shrank violently, and his body went limp, hanging like a puppet in Shigeru's grasp.
"Shigeru, release Hoshishi! Let him go, quickly!"
The branch house members responsible for protecting Hyuga Hoshishi never expected events to spiral like this.
They had no idea what Shigeru had done to create this overwhelming pressure, which now made them feel as though they were in the presence of a savage beast. Their bodies refused to respond to their commands, and they watched in horror as Shigeru gripped Hoshishi's neck as if he intended to strangle him.
A branch house member attempting to kill a main family member?
In the past, they would have laughed at the very notion. But now, they couldn't muster even a hint of humor.
Did Hoshishi not even know how to activate the Caged Bird curse seal?
Ignoring the pleas of the branch house guards, Shigeru casually released Hoshishi, who crumpled to his knees.
As Hoshishi knelt, Shigeru pressed a hand on his head, and a blue sphere of chakra sank into his body.
"Who sent you?"
"It... it was the patriarch..."
Hoshishi spoke like a puppet on strings, answering Shigeru's questions in a dull, mechanical tone.
"The patriarch..."
Hoshishi's response was slow and halting, making Shigeru frown in annoyance.
"Never mind. I'll find out for myself. It might hurt a little, so bear with it."
Blue light enveloped Hoshishi, whose body began to twitch uncontrollably. Shigeru closed his eyes, and images flashed through his mind.
He saw the clan leader issuing a secret mission: force Shigeru to hand over the puppets and their core secrets. Once obtained, they planned to replicate the puppets and teach Shigeru a "lesson" as punishment.
The team had entered the camp quietly, avoiding any attention before reaching the medical room.
"So, they sneaked around to avoid detection, huh?"
Shigeru smirked, recalling the treatment he had endured from the Hyuga clan in the past. Slowly, he raised his right hand, pressing it against Hoshishi's head.
Bending down, he whispered in Hoshishi's ear, "Remember to behave in your next life."
Pfft!
Blue chakra surged into Hoshishi's brain, causing a violent mental shock. He groaned before collapsing lifelessly to the ground.
"Your turn."
Shigeru turned to the branch house guards, his gaze cold and unrelenting.
Though he despised the Hyuga clan, he had no intention of seeking trouble with them—until now. The Hyuga patriarch had colluded with the Third Hokage to provoke him, aiming to humiliate and control him.
"Fine. If that's how you want to play, I'll make sure you learn a lesson you won't forget."
Without hesitation, Shigeru eliminated the guards one by one.
Afterward, he casually sealed their bodies into a scroll, erased all traces of their arrival, and returned to his chair. Crossing his legs, he resumed reading as though nothing had happened.
Later, Nara Luxin, busy managing the reinforcements, suddenly remembered that a Hyuga team had been among the arrivals. Oddly, they had disappeared after entering the camp.
Concerned, Luxin rushed to the medical room, only to find Shigeru casually reading a book.
"Senior, were you looking for me?"
Shigeru set the book down, stood up, and stretched.
Luxin hesitated, puzzled by Shigeru's calm demeanor. "Shigeru, did anyone come to see you just now?"
Feigning confusion, Shigeru replied, "Does the nurse count? The pretty one?"
"..."
Luxin groaned inwardly. This guy is impossible!
"Stop flirting with the medical staff, or Tsunade-hime will have your head!"
"Understood."
Shigeru nodded with a grin.
With that, Luxin left, deciding it wasn't worth pursuing. The camp was chaotic enough without adding missing Hyuga clan members to the mix.
"If no one's seen them, then they don't exist," he muttered.
Several days passed.
When the Hyuga team failed to report back, the Third Hokage grew restless. He ordered the Intelligence Division to contact Luxin for an update.
Luxin groaned when the inquiry reached him. He had predicted this outcome but was now trapped between factions.
The Third Hokage, under the guise of concern for the Hyuga clan, demanded answers.
Reluctantly, Luxin reported: "Hyuga clan members? Never seen them."
He stuck to his story, repeating it to anyone who asked.
Back in Konoha, the Third Hokage was stunned. How could a team, including a main family member, simply vanish?
"Investigate! Find out what happened, no matter the cost!"
The Third Hokage deployed Anbu to the camp, forgetting that the Anbu now operated under Tsunade's authority.
