Chapter 13: Chapter 13 - Halloween Dinner
Upon seeing the Cottongrass Dugbog, Felix just looked strangely at the ugly giant frog looking creature. He remembered them from the Hogwarts Legacy game and knew they were fairly easy to beat. Even after checking up on various magical creatures in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them it was still the same as the game.
So, when one really only needs to capture the tongue with the Levitation Charm to restrict most of its action. He felt pretty odd upon the scene of various students running away in freight, Felix also felt Angel and John behaving the same way. He stopped them and drew out his wand.
"Angel, cast the Levitation Charm on its tongue." Felix said. "It will restrict its movement. John, why don't you begin repairing the hallway."
"Are you sure it will work?" Angel asks in concern.
"Of course." Felix replied.
Luckily where this incident was occuring was near the courtyard in the castle, so Felix could grab a pile of branches from there that were yet to be cleaned up. Hence, while his two friends went to work, he began to transfigure a cage for it to hold the Cotton Dugbog temporarily.
After having Angel who nervously sat it down into the cage after a few attempts in capturing its tongue. John waved his wand casting the repair spell on the hallway repairing most of what he could. While Felix began to look around to find where it came from.
While the Cottongrass Dugbog could be found down by the Black Lake. It was usually found near the parts away from the castle or small hamlets or villages that surround it. Not to mention they were quite rare near the lake due to an event in the late 18th century.
Apparently due to some unknown event, most of the Cottongrass Dugbog went slightly crazy attacking and moving around the lake. So a student and a few of his friends ended up removing most of them due to how many times they had been attacked by them.
"Did it escape from the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom?" Felix wondered aloud.
"Indeed." a voice answered his question.
Turning around, Felix found Professor Flitwick behind him. The Professor has puffy looking white hair as if he was hit by electricity and showed some age. Like most of the professors in Hogwarts, even sixty could be considered young among them.
"Five points each to you three and an extra five for cleaning up most of the mess." Professor Flitwick smiled at them. "Now run along, and I will finish up here."

"So, this is the Halloween Feast." Angel said, looking at the food before them.
The Great Hall was decorated and jack o lanterns floated above them in various sizes. Animated bats flew around the hall while the ghosts were a bit of mischief playing pranks. Quite a few students were also dressed up in various costumes, while more dressed up as wizards.
Before them were more festival food and treats made with a halloween theme. Yet what made Felix depressed was all the food before him was the food he didn't like. For it wasn't that the house elves weren't good cooks, but most of what before him was pumpkin flavor or tended to be really salty.
"It's not bad." John nodded. "My brother said every couple years the school will prepare festival activities like the Skeleton Dance Troop or the like. However, since He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Name began his war. There hasn't been one at Hogwarts due to Dumbledore wanting to keep outside visitors to the bare minimum. To reduce an attack on the castle or so the theory is."
"Really, I didn't know you had a brother." Felix asked.
"His name is Chist, and he is seven years older than us. My mother enjoys studying Arithmancy as a hobby. So because of the magic properties of the number seven. She waited seven years before having me, because she predicted it would be a good year or something." John explained. "My brother is currently trying to join the Department of International Cooperation inside the Ministry of Magic. Apparently he heard a girl he likes wants to do the same."
"John, you're rambling." Angel cut him off.
Whenever John is nervous or excited, he tends to ramble on and on. This is especially true when it comes to his family. Hence, either Felix or Angel will have to cut him off or he will just continue going.
"Sorry." John apologies.
Picking at his food, time passed by until the feast was coming to an end. Only as everyone was filled and preparing to head back to their dorms. A trio of owls suddenly flew in before dropping a bowling ball size round object before him. Where Felix could smell a bit of blood as he carefully and slowly opened the package.
Right before screams erupted around him for what was inside the bag was a severed head. The eyes were plucked out and blood ran down like tears, while his lips held a letter. Where in his shock, Felix numbly picked up the letter and looked at what was written.
"I hope you enjoy the surprise." Felix read slowly.
Then the severed head began to shift and launched towards him. In a nimble and adrenaline filled movement. Felix fell off the bench as a poisonous snake launched out of the mouth.
Luckily the snake couldn't do much harm for Dumbledore managed to burn the snake to ashes. While the other professors began to set off loud sounds to get everyone's attention.
"Quiet!" Dumbledore's voice boomed, finally drawing an end to the chaos. "Everyone, please follow your prefect to your dorm while those if needed may visit Madam Pomfrey."
Trying to calm his beating heart as he picked himself up, Felix felt nauseous at the sight of the head. Truth be told, it was the first time he saw such a thing in person or anything as remotely gory outside of movies. Not to mention having a large snake launching out at him.
"Are you ok, Mr. Grindelwald?" Professor McGonagall asked.
"If you count being terrified, then I am dandy." Felix retorted. "The question is who would send me a head and a snake?"
"That is what we should look into. Why don't you and your friends go to visit Madam Pomfrey." Dumbledore said.
He didn't have a kind looking face nor did he look pleased at such a thing. After all, someone had just sent a severed head to a school in the middle of a feast. Not to mention attempted to harm a student within his school.
Felix agreed, but while he left he attempted to peek at the head path. However, besides a bunch of black magic and the head belonging to a human. He didn't see anything to help him which made him see a weakness of his ability.
While he could do some magic to backtrack, but just peering straight for the culprit who chopped off the head or the man it belonged to. Well, it didn't show besides the man seemed to be full of anger and full of negative emotions when the head was chopped off. So it became a pretty good material to use in black magic ritual and the likes.
"I feel like my food is coming up." John said.
"I think once my shock wears off in a moment, I think my will come back like a refund." Felix nodded as he rushed off to the bathroom.
"You two have such weak stomachs?" Angel grumbled.
Angel only received the sound of footsteps as her response. Since John and Felix weren't in a mood to talk. Since both tried to race to the bathroom as soon as possible.
--
The next day, not much was told nor did Felix receive information from any of the professors of their findings. Instead, all he got was the reward for being the latest student to survive an assassination attempt in Hogwarts. For over the long history of the school, it is basically a tradition for someone trying to assassinate a student for one reason or another.
Hence, besides the nightmare inducing head. Most of the students just carried on with their life since they didn't care much since it wasn't them or their close friends someone trying to assassinate.
