Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 341: Spirit King’s inheritance

The scraps continued to glow even more intensely until something was released.

The moment that this thing was released, it was as if this bright light suddenly filled the room.

When it was over, there were two figures that were floating there.

These weren't ordinary figures, these seemed to be transparent figures that didn't really have a form.

But the aura that was coming from these two figures was anything but ordinary.

When I saw them, I knew that there was something familiar about them. But at the same time, there was something that was unfamiliar about them.

It was something that seemed stronger than anything that I had experienced before.

But it wasn't as if this was a bad thing.

It was quite exciting seeing something like this since I already knew what it was and was certain that it wouldn't hurt us. We were high elves…or rather a high elf and the soul of a high elf.

We were connected to the spirits in the first place, so it wasn't as if they would harm us even if they were Spirit Kings.

Once they had finished forming, the figures didn't seem to pay attention to me or Sylpha at all.

Rather, the only thing that interested them were Pyro and Aero.

"Young ones of our element, it seems like you were lucky enough to encounter us. As such, we will offer you an opportunity."

The voices seemed like they were coming right into one's brain with the way that they seemed to echo in our heads.

But after this was said, the two figures seemed to turn to look at me.

That was because both Pyro and Aero seemed confused.

That was why the two figures turned to me since I was the one that they had formed a contract with. So in a way, it was as if the two figures representing the two Spirit Kings were taking me as their guardian.

After looking at me, one of them said, "Young high elf, you shall make the final decision for these two."

The other said, "We will offer them a chance to accept our fragments and absorb the power within them."

"Why are you doing this?" I couldn't help asking.

Even if they were Spirit Kings, it didn't seem like they were generous enough to just do something like this without a reason. After all, these spirit fragments came from the source of the Spirit King's power.

If they were absorbed, there was no doubt that the Spirit Kings would be affected by this amount of their source power being taken from them. It wasn't as if they would be completely detached from these fragments that came from them.

"Ha, ha, ha, it's good that you're worried. It means that these young ones have chosen the right ones to follow."

"That's right. It's strange that a young high elf like you cares this much about spirits. But it's even rarer for someone like you to think things through this much."

When the two Spirit Kings suddenly started to praise me, I didn't really know how to react.

In the end, one of the Spirit Kings explained, "These were fragments that we deliberately created, so it isn't as if they contain our source energy. They contain bits of our power, but those were bits that we willingly gave up. They won't actually affect us if they are absorbed."

The other one continued by saying, "These were created by us just so that they could be absorbed by other spirits of our choosing, which was why we allowed these fragments to flow into the world."

"Why?" I couldn't help asking in a confused voice.

This was actually the first time that I was encountering something like this.

Even if spirit fragments were found in the game, this was an event that had never occurred before.

That was why I really didn't have a single clue as to what was happening right now.

"For the future." The two Spirit Kings said at the same time.

"Huh?" I couldn't help being caught off guard when I heard this.

The red Spirit King explained, "Even Spirit Kings have a finite lifespan, so it isn't as if we can be around forever. We need to find young sprouts that we can nurture into Spirit Kings to replace us."

The green Spirit King continued, "That's why we release these fragments into the world to see if we can find anyone good. When we do, we usually bring them back with us to train. However, it seems like they'll gain more from staying by your side."

I was a bit surprised to hear all of this.

Even if Spirit Kings had appeared in the game, it wasn't as if there was much that was known about them. In fact, there was only a limited amount of lore regarding them since they were considered very late game summons to begin with.

To a certain extent, they were even considered legends in the game.

That was why there was limited lore about them.

Though one might think that it was just because the devs were too lazy to come up with proper lore for them.

But now that this game world was a real world, there had to be lore for the Spirit Kings.

Lore that had never been heard when this world was still a game.

So Spirit Kings could actually die of old age and they had to find spirits to replace them.

It only made sense since spirits were embodiments of nature and it wasn't as if nature would remain the same forever. It was only natural that it would change over time and would even become completely different.

"Alright." In the end, that was all that I said.

There was no need for me to say anything else since the Spirit Kings were already getting antsy.

It seemed that they wanted to pass on the inheritances that they left already.

Since it wouldn't actually harm Pyro and Aero, there was no reason for me to reject this.

Though if it seemed dangerous, I would find a way to interfere.
