Chapter 240: Let them suffer a bit
"So what do you think we should do?" I asked Aragon who was sitting across from me at this table.
Even though there were all these people who were trying to talk to the two of us, we just focused on this one conversation between the two of us.
"What do you think we can do? Do you really think that they'll believe us if we don't have any evidence?" He said in a voice that seemed to be filled with disdain.
I didn't blame him for this since I could see the way that these people acted.
It was clear that the only thing that was on their minds was their own benefits, which was why they were doing all of this. They only seemed to care about the fact that I was the hero and that there were high elves here.
Other than that, it wasn't as if they took us seriously.
So even if we were to tell them that we saw traces of demons along the way, they wouldn't do anything about it. They would just ignore the information that we gave them and would continue doing what they were currently doing.
As such, it was only a waste of time to warn them.
Since he could guess what I was thinking since he was thinking the same thing, Aragon just simply said, "Let them suffer a bit or else they won't learn."
It wasn't as if he was wrong since it was just how it was with people like this.
The problem was that there were plenty of innocent people that were here.
It wouldn't be good if we were to let all of these innocent people get hurt because we chose not to give them a warning.
There was only so much that we could do, so it was impossible for us to stop all casualties from happening since there were just too many people and too many demons.
It wasn't as if we were gods that could manipulate the entire battlefield.
So in the end, it was only inevitable that there would be casualties from a demon invasion.
The only thing that we can do is keep the casualties as low as possible.
"Isn't that the reason why we called for that person to begin with?"
I gave a silent sigh, but I knew that he was right.
Even if we couldn't do anything, that didn't mean that we wouldn't have a way of getting this information to the people that would be directly affected by it. Once they received the information, it would be up to them to use that information to keep themselves safe.
"Let's just leave it to him."
…
"You're saying that you found signs of demons? This isn't a place to be making a joke like this."
I wasn't surprised that they would be acting this way.
The only thing that I could do was blame the main body for setting my appearance like this, but it also wasn't the time to be doing something like that. After all, there was only a bit of time left before the demons arrived.
I put a few things on the counter and said, "This is the proof that I have. Is there anything else that you need?"
When these things were taken out, the guild master of this Adventurer's Guild branch had no choice but to accept that I was telling the truth.
In the first place, he would have kicked me out if it wasn't for the fact that I had a B Rank Adventurer's Card. But that was enough to convince them to listen to me since B Rankers were rare in the first place.
At the same time, these cards couldn't be faked.
Perhaps it might be possible with lower ranked cards, but it was impossible for cards that were above C Ranked to be faked since they were considered high ranked adventurers.
These were people that the Adventurer's Guild cared about, so they put the extra effort into these cards.
After a long silence, the guild master took out a map of the surrounding area and put it down in front of me before asking, "Where?"
I didn't hesitate to point out several spots on the map.
The guild master seemed to knit his brows when he saw this since it wasn't just a few spots that were pointed out. If what I had shown him was to be believed, then it would mean that the demons had this capital city of the Deter Kingdom surrounded…
If the demons had this place surrounded, then there was no doubt that they would be in for a fierce battle.
After a long moment of silence, the guild master said, "I'll have to send people out to scout these sightings. You should know that I can't just take your word alone on this matter."
I gave a simple nod since this was what I had been expecting, but I added, "Please make some preparations ahead of time."
Seeing that the guild master was about to say something, I said, "I know that this might seem hasty, but if you're wrong, what is there to lose? If we prepare this and the demons do come, it'll just allow us to protect more people."
The guild master swallowed his words and deeply knitted his brows when he heard this.
He didn't say anything as he looked at me with a complicated look on his face, but I just looked right back at him with a calm and serious expression.
After all, I had nothing to hide.
The only reason that I was here was to help the people in the first place.
After another long silence, the guild master gave a slow nod before saying, "I hope that you know what doing something like this means."
"I've seen the demons myself, so it won't be wrong. I hope that you will send your best people to take care of this."
The guild master looked at me with another complicated look, but he didn't say anything this time.
