Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 239: Watchers

As I looked at the demons that were around me, I couldn't help shaking my head and giving a sigh.

When they saw this, they acted like they didn't see anything.

After all, these were demons that had been sent as watchers for me.

It wasn't that they were here to protect me, they were just here to watch me to make sure that I didn't do anything excessive.

There was a member of the Asura Race, a member of the Minotaur Race, and a member of the Dark Elf Race.

This Dark Elf Race was a member of the neutral faction that didn't seem to mind either way that I went along with the expedition force. After all, they had nothing to gain or to lose from this.

The Dark Elf Race was different from the normal elf race.

One big difference between them was the difference in skin tone.

Since they were known as the dark elves, it was only natural that there was a reason why they were known as the dark elves.

That was because of the blue skin and dark eyes that they possessed.

The other big difference was the fact that dark elves relied more on the power of the moon and death than on the power of life and nature.

With this large difference, it was only natural that they were driven out by the normal elves and fell to the side of the demons. So even though they weren't technically demons, they lived in the demon territory.

Since the elves were one of the major powers in this world, it was only natural that the Dark Elves that were driven out by them would be one of the big tribes in the demon race.

It was certainly a problem to be watched by these three representatives, but the problem was that I wouldn't be able to move around as freely.

If I wanted to move, the one thing that I would have to do is take care of the ones watching me.

Otherwise, everything would be revealed to the demon race.

Still for now, it wasn't as if I was planning on doing anything to the watchers that followed me.

Instead, I was more focused on the demons that had been sent to come with us.

It was an army of hellhounds, imps, and different middle tier demon races. This would be an army that one would have to face during the mid game, but for the current me…it wasn't as if I would feel any pressure facing an army like this.

I had already become quite strong with the different skills that I had gotten.

Even facing the watchers that had been assigned to me would be easy since they were only considered mid game bosses.

It wasn't as if they could send anyone strong since that would mean that the humans would retaliate in kind. Only by sending a mid tier army would they be able to justify an appropriate reaction.

After all, if they sent the strongest demons, then it would mean that they were planning to end this war between demons and humans. That would mean that the humans would also send their strongest experts.

But if they didn't send the strongest demons, the humans couldn't send their strongest experts out of fear that the strongest demons would ambush them.

It was balancing power so that they didn't lose everything in the war.

Even these three watchers weren't even the strongest experts from these top tribes, so it didn't matter that they came. That was why I was confident that I would be able to slip away if I needed to slip away.

After marching for a while, we suddenly came to a stop.

At this, the leaders of the different troops came over to meet me.

The army was made of different mid tier demon tribes, so it was only natural that each of the demon tribes would send their own commanders for their own members.

They would be able to cooperate with each other if it was necessary, but most of the time they would be acting on their own. That was one of the advantages that the demons had since they could act freely without waiting for a central command.

But at the same time, it did make them disorganized when they fought.

After coming in front of me, none of the commanders from the various demon tribes seemed to show me any respect. It seemed that they even looked down on me with the expressions that they showed.

It was clear that they didn't think highly of me, but that wasn't strange since I was the puppet demon king that had been put on the throne.

Still, I was the commander this time, so…

"What are your plans of attack?" I asked each of the demon commanders standing in front of me.

They narrowed their eyes to look at me, as if they didn't really want to answer.

But then they looked at the three from the top demon tribes and then slowly started laying out their plans. Each commander from each tribe seemed to have a different plan.

However, it seemed that there were some tribes that had plans where they would work with each other.

It was impossible for them to completely act on their own since there were too many things to consider on the battlefield, so most tribes chose one or two other tribes to work with.

Once they were done, I just said with a nod, "Alright, that will be all."

They didn't care that I dismissed them as they started heading off on their own.

Even if I did give them suggestions, it was unlikely that they would even listen to me since I was nothing more than a puppet leader that had been put here by the top demon tribes.

Still, I had already accomplished what I had set out to accomplish by asking this.

The information had been leaked to the hero avatar and the high elf avatar who had been listening through my senses the entire time.
