Chapter 197: 197
Yang Ze, who was unaware of the fact that the two people whom he had just sentenced to prison were already dead, was slowly making his way towards Yuyang City. As Lin Meilin said… it was a good thing to be aware of the changes in the world around him. He had been holed up in that small house for god knows how long. While he didn't practise or cultivate, the peace of mind he had during this time was something that he had been missing for a long time.
Especially, after the death of Cang Yue… he needed time to gather himself and face the grief of losing a loved one. Though the pain and sadness in his heart didn't lessen, he had slowly grown accustomed to it.
He didn't immediately rush but slowly made his way down while admiring the scenery around him.
Thankfully, there weren't that many members of the Lin family around him, and the few he met along the way didn't bother to pay attention to him. After looking at the Lin family's clothes that he was wearing, they simply ignored him, not even bothering to pay attention to his face. All of them seemed to be in a hurry.
Though Yang Ze found it weird that the entire Lin family seemed to be in a hurry, he didn't think too much about it.
It took him some time to reach the bottom of the mountain and into the outskirts of the Yuynag city.
"Back again…" Yang Ze couldn't help but mutter to himself as he looked at the bustling city in front of him.
He raised a foot and was about to make his way towards the city to see the changes there when his eyes were attracted by the small poster on one of the walls.
The moment Yang Ze looked at it, his foot froze mid-air as his eyes went wide with disbelief.
On the poster was a rough sketch of a man in his late thirties. Though only his head was visible and there were some missing details, how could Yang Ze not recognise who the person in the poster was?
"What the fuck?" He couldn't help but utter those words before hurriedly pulling his robe up, covering his face, leaving only the portion above his eyes in the open.
Taking a few steps forward, he walked close to the poster before standing in front of it.
He wasn't the only one looking at the poster. There were already a handful of people standing near it, watching intently while discussing amongst themselves.
"Have you ever seen this person?"
"Not that I recall."
"For the Heavenly Sword Sect to offer such a huge reward to him…Hiss… just what did he do?"
Listening to their conversation, Yang Ze's heart turned cold.
On the poster was his face… the face of the middle-aged man that he used while wearing the mask.
The only thing written beneath that poster was a red line of text.
[Wanted by the Heavenly Sword Sect.]
There was no mention of crimes or rewards… just a single sentence.
"Senior sister, what is going on? Who is this person? And why is Sword Sect pursuing him so frantically?" One of the girls in the crowd finally couldn't hold her curiosity and asked in a confused voice. This was the first time she saw something like this.
Typically, a behemoth like the Sword Sect has its own intelligence network and therefore never requires public assistance. But now that they were asking for help, it could only mean that the man on the poster was unfathomable and could even escape the eyes and ears of a giant like the Sword Sect.
"Oh, haven't you heard?" The woman in her late forties beamed immediately when she heard a girl in her teens call her elder sister. Raising her head high with pride, she began to speak in a voice full of excitement.
"This man is named Yang Ze."
"Earlier, his life was in jeopardy, and he was dying of hunger and disease."
"The benevolent elder of the Sword Sect took pity upon him and took him to the Sword Sect."
"There, she fed him, gave him shelter and clothes and even treated his injuries… but this beast…"
Speaking till here, her nose flared in anger as she recalled what she had heard.
"But this beast did the unthinkable."
"Not only did he poison his benefactor and imprison her, but he also set his eyes on the Saintess of the Duality Sect."
"This beast then plotted against her and, after many vicious schemes, even successfully poisoned her."
"Remember that demonic beast that almost destroyed the Sword sect?" She couldn't help but ask the crowd in front of him, who then replied with nods.
"Yes, turns out, it was this vicious man who lured that beast to the Sword Sect and, taking advantage of the chaos, wanted to kill the Saintess of the Duality Sect."
"Wait…" the small girl suddenly interrupted the middle-aged woman, who was frustrated at first but then soon regained her smile after realising it was her little sister.
"Why would he do this?"
Her words instantly made the crowd look towards the middle-aged woman, hooing for an answer.
"Isn't it obvious?" The woman simply shrugged in response. "To cause a war between the Heavenly Sword Sect and the Duality Sect."
The moment she finished speaking, a person in the crowd immediately shouted at the top of his lungs.
"HOW DEVIOUS."
"SCUM LIKE HIM DESERVE TO DIE."
The small crowd was riled by his shout and immediately began to chime in.
"Yes, that's right…"
"Someone like him doesn't deserve to live."
In less than a few seconds, the small crowd was already boiling with anger.
The middle-aged woman raised her hand, silencing the crowd before speaking further.
"The Sword Sect is searching for him. If you can capture him alive and could provide information that would lead to his capture, then the Sword Sect will make sure to reward that person."
"The reward is a guarantee to step into the Vein Expansion realm. The Sword Sect will bear all expanse and will make sure that you step into the Vein Expansion realm."
Her words were akin to throwing a large boulder into a still pond… in an instant, the entire crowd was reeling with shock.
The woman, after looking around, simply let out a smile before walking away.
Yang Ze watched quietly as the woman left the crowd, followed by the young girl who asked her the questions and then a middle-aged man who was the first one to shout in anger against Yang Ze.
"Interesting." Yang Ze merely raised his head as he narrowed his eyes, and the mask on his face that was manifested by his Mystic Nether Art disappeared and in its place a piece of clothing appeared, completely covering his face, leaving behind the soul-stirring otherworldly appearance that was hidden behind the cloth and a pair of eyes that was completely different than the one in the poster.
Yang Ze quietly followed behind the three people as he watched them rest for a while, go to a different place, then repeat the same process again.
"Members of the Sword Sect!?" This was the only plausible explanation. These three weren't the only ones; there were a number of people who acted this way purposefully while spreading the information about Yang Ze and publishing the rewards.
"Heh." After hearing about his own 'evil deeds' for the fifth time, Yang Ze let out a sneer before leaving them and walking around aimlessly while looking for a suitable talent to find.
Other than his poster being all over the city and his evil deeds, the biggest piece of news that he found was the Dao Discussion that took place in the Duality Sect, but Yang Ze hardly found anyone talking about it. In the end, he made his way to a small restaurant, sat on a window seat, ordered a bunch of dishes and just sat there in silence for a while, quietly looking at the storyteller who was busy talking to another guest.
It wasn't until the storyteller was finished and received a few bronze coins that Yang Ze tapped on his table while looking at the storyteller with a smile, instantly attracting his gaze.
"This young master." The man who seemed to be in his early twenties with a thin body immediately rushed towards Yagn Ze with a smile. Upon seeing his masked face and a bunch of untouched dishes in front of him, he couldn't help but click his tongue in wonder. These people from the major families were getting more and more outrageous. God knows how many weeks it would take him to afford a single dish, much less a table full of them.
"What would you like to listen to?"
"I have stories about a scholar and a martial master, as well as a powerful empress falling in love with a young boy from the mountainside. Or how about a ferocious demonic cultivator finding love with a simple, honest man?"
"....."
Yang Ze looked at him speechlessly before shaking his head in response.
"Just tell me about the Dao Discussion at the Duality Sect."
Yang Ze wanted to know how the Dualtiy Sect reacted after Cang Yue's death, or whether they were even aware of it or not.
"Oh, that?" Though the storyteller was confused as to why he was asking about it, he immediately began to recall everything that he had heard from various sources.
"The Dao Discussion took place about a month ago."
"Earlier, it was supposed to be held half a year later, but the Sect Leader Yun Ning forwarded the date for some reason."
"I don't know what happened during the Dao Discussion, but there weres ome rumors going around."
Speaking till here, he licked the corner of his lips while looking at Yang Ze.
"Go on." Yang Ze simply reached inside his robe, manifested a gold coin and threw it to the storyteller.
"This…" Looking at the shiny gold coin, the storyteller almost lost his breath. It would take him almost a year to earn this single gold coin, but now… He immediately pounced on it like a hungry dog pouncing on a piece of meat.
After placing it in his robe, he then looked around nervously before speaking in a flattering tone.
"There are rumours that all the thirteen major sects that ruled the Azure Dragon Continent were all present during the Dao Discussion."
"At that time, other than the various sect leaders, the only people allowed there were the various Grand Elders."
"Not much is known, but rumours are that Sect Leader Yun Ning told them all about how to step into the Heaven Step."
"This Dao Discussion lasted for almost five days, and after that, everyone returned to their sects."
Yang Ze quietly listened to the storyteller. Although he, too, was interested in knowing what the way to step into Heaven was, the current him didn't need it. He would have plenty of time in the future for it.
The only thing he needed to do now was to increase his strength.
"And what about their saintess?" He wanted to know the Duality Sect's reaction.
"What about her?" This time, the storyteller was confused. He couldn't understand why the person sitting in front of him would ask such a question.
"Didn't you hear about it?" He asked again.
"That damned Yang Ze bastard schemed against her and even caused her some injuries. She is still recovering in the Sword Sect."
Yang Ze's corner of lips twitched after hearing the man curse before shaking his head.
"I see." He simply nodded in response before standing up.
Looking at the storyteller's greedy gaze towards the food, he spoke in a flat tone.
"You can eat it all."
Without wasting another second, he threw a bunch of visualised gold coins before walking out of the restaurant.
After walking around for a while, he simply used his sign-in to one of the white talents that he found.
[Successfully signed in to Mighty Strength.]
[Mighty Strength(Green): Increases physical strength greatly.]
"Well, at least better than nothing." Muttering to himself in a soft voice. He wandered around for a while before heading back to the Lin family.
And the moment he reached the house, he was greeted by the familiar figure of Lin Meilin, who was already waiting for him there.
"So…" Before Yang Ze could even speak, Lin Meilin let out a gentle smile before speaking further.
"Aare you ready for your next lesson?
