Chapter 77: A Maid In The Third Floor
The fourth floor of the royal house was so quiet that Serena began to wonder if it was only her and Eiravyn on this floor.
Serena could not help the curiosity that sparked inside her as she turned to ask the servants.
"Which room belongs to His Majesty?" She asked.
The servants followed her from behind and pointed to the next room on her side.
"My lady, that's the master bedroom, His Majesty bedroom chambers." They said. The doors of the room they pointed out were even bigger than hers! It was the biggest of all the rooms inside the royal house. She was surprised her eyes did not catch it when she first came up here. 'Maybe because Eiravyn carried me up the stairs.' She thought to herself.
When Serena reached the third floor, she was surprised that the place looked more bustling with knights and servants walking about. She noticed that none of them dared to take the step leading to the fourth floor.
…
In the entrance of the royal house, few minutes ago.
Ava stepped down from her father's car when the car pulled to a stop in front of the royal house. It was the day of the council meeting and she had accompanied her dad to this meeting so she could get a chance to talk to Eiravyn.
Ava kissed her dad on the cheeks as he took a detour to go over to the royal court where the meeting took place. But before that, he leaned down to his daughter's level, almost like he wanted to give her a peck on the cheeks.
The elderly man, whispered in his daughter's ear, for only her to hear. "You know what to do, pumpkin." The man said and smirked.
Ava straightened her shoulders when she heard her father's word. "Of course I do, you should trust your daughter on this."
Lord Chamberlain nodded, pleased. "We are all counting on you." The man said. A warning look on his face.
"I know father." With that Ava walked into the royal house, her every step, graceful and full of pride. She looked so sure of herself.
When Ava entered the royal house, the servants and maids who were busy with the task of preparing the main floor for the banquet that evening, all paused what they were doing when they saw her make her way to the main floor.
They were all familiar with her and were not ready to get on her bad side with the news that was currently circulating around the Darkshade kingdom that she would soon be crowned their queen. They thought she had come to personally oversee the preparation, so they all bowed to her before resusming their task.
Ava didn't spare a glance at any of them. Instead, she went up the stairs in search of Eiravyn. She'd already called one of her spies and they'd told her, hehad been in his study throughout the day.
She had initially been doubtful since she knew Eiravyn's prowess in bed. If he'd truly seen his mate - the girl in the prophecy, she was sure Eiravyn would not be nearing his study today.
But since her spy told her he was in his study all morning, she thought maybe Lila had overthought it and maybe the girl was just someone he wanted to help. With that thought in her mind, she had dressed up and came here with her dad.
It was simple — she wanted to see if she could get Eiravyn to change his mind and maybe he would crown her as his queen when he saw how beautiful she was looking today.
As Ava made her way to the third floor, she was about to step into the hall when she saw an unknown figure heading in the direction she was going.
Ava cocked her brows. "You there! Where do you think you are going?" Ava asked, and Serena froze before turning to see who had spoken in such a loud voice.
Looking at Serena's clothes and the familiar scent of human blood. Ava was sure she was the human Lila was talking about but when she glance at the common clothes she was wearing she almost laughed. Was this the luxury brand Lila said Eiravyn bought for her? Well, maybe Eiravyn didn't really like the girl after all and she had over think everything. She muttered to herself.
Seeing that Serena was not responding and she was sure that Serena didn't have any standing. Ava was emboldened.
"Answer me!" Ava hissed at Serena.
"And who are you that I have to answer to you?" Serena asked her back. She might not look like it but she was not the type to get pushed around or bullied. Especially by someone who didn't even know basic etiquette that they have to introduce themselves to someone who didn't even know them in the first place.
Ava frowned at Serena. "You reek of human. A word of advice for you: coming to a vampire kingdom and acting like you're all that won't do you any good. And to your earlier question of who i am. I'm the soon to be queen of this kingdom." Ava said.
When she saw that Serena had a look of shock on her face, her expression lit up.
"And now answer my question. What do you think you're doing going in this direction?" She asked.
"You should be with the other maids preparing for my banquet ceremony."
Serena was yet to recover from the shock that this girl was calling herself the queen when she heard another shocking news, it was her ceremony. But… Serena trailed off as she turned to look at her servants, wondering if she heard it wrong.
She was again shocked when she saw their heads lowered in a form of submission. Who were they submitting to? Serena asked herself when realization suddenly drowned on her
Serena turned to Ava, her eyes widened. "Y… you.. are you Ava Rivers?" Serena asked, her voice low in the end that she didn't know if the other girl heard her.
"I see you know my name… too bad, I can't say same for you because I don't know you." She said and smiled sweetly that Serena felt like she was mocking her.
Serena felt like the air was closing in on her when she heard her response.
As if on cue the door to the study opened and Eiravyn walked out with his right hand-aide beside him.
