He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact

Chapter 278. Meeting Zarek Atrexia

The crowd could not believe what they had just heard.

Usually, societies would be on cloud nine to have people flocking in their numbers to join them. However, this Kailen Darkhaven had accepted only hundred individuals to join his society, only to tell the rest that the Sword Tribunal Society would not be accepting further members until further notice?

What the hell was wrong with this guy? Why was he always doing something incredulous and mind-boggling all the time?

A few perceptive ones, however, couldn't help but open their eyes widely in surprise, having realized what was going on here.

Zarek Atrexia, currently seated in the lounge of the Sword Tribunal Society, couldn't help but squint his eyes in surprise.

"I can't help but develop an interest in this fellow more and more. The commotion he caused by announcing the first hundred members of his society would get high quality alchemical products, sold to them at an extremely high discount, triggered a strong competition between some of the first years who made an appearance here, during the time they were fighting each other to get to the Sword Tribunal Society and register themselves as part of the first hundred society members.

Eventually, their skirmishes triggered some sort of sieving mechanism, eventually leading to some of the stronger first year students getting here first."

Zarek stared at Kailen with a knowing expression, one Kailen, glancing towards his direction, noticed.

"He noticed, err. This Zarek is not normal. It seems he has seen through the plan I set up. Interesting."

Kailen couldn't help but be intrigued. The academy was really full of some interesting fellows.

Kailen's plan had been simple yet not easy to see through. By announcing that he would be selling high quality alchemical products to the first hundred people who managed to join his society, many people who were yet to join any society would be tempted to join the Sword Tribunal Society, especially following his special achievement announcement for crafting high quality alchemical products.

He knew that the possibility of first years running to join the Sword Tribunal Society would be higher compared to the second years and those above. This was because several first years were yet to make a decision concerning which society they wanted to join.

Also, the second years and above were all part of different societies. One would think they could just decide to leave their societies, running to another one. However, it wasn't that simple.

Each society had rune oaths that bound its members to the society, dealing heavy consequences to the cultivation of those who broke the rune oaths. An example was what would happen to Pan Halfoy the moment he officially joined the Sword Tribunal Society and left the Arcane Society.

Therefore, some senior year students who had been tempted to leave their societies to join the Sword Tribunal Society had rejected the thought the moment it crossed their minds, not willing to risk their cultivation.

This left only first year students running to the Sword Tribunal Society to become members of the society. Some senior year students could only sigh in frustration over the matter, but there was nothing they could do at this point.

Anyway, having predicted that first years would come flocking to the Sword Tribunal Society, Kailen knew that there was bound to be some skirmish between the first years, due to 'the first hundred students who joined the Sword Tribunal Society getting a high discount for purchasing alchemical products' part of the announcement.

Who wouldn't want to use every means necessary to be the first to receive this generous treatment, even to the point of crushing any weakling that stood in your way?

This, in turn, had led the weaker first years to be at a disadvantage, being pummeled by the stronger first years—some of whom had eventually managed to secure their spots amongst the first hundred membership of the Sword Tribunal Society.

The plan had worked perfectly.

This was why Kailen had said that he wouldn't be accepting any more members into his society for now. He wanted to focus on grooming these hundred, well 101 members of the society, preferring quality over quantity.

If with time there was a need to open the doors of the society to others, he would do that. But for now, there was no need to do that.

As the new members of the society were being walked through their registration by Lian Yu, Kailen was currently headed towards the lounge, where Zarek was waiting for him.

Before Kailen could even arrive there, Zarek stood up, walking towards Kailen to greet him, a sign of respect towards Kailen.

"I finally get to meet the famed Kailen Darkhaven myself. It's a pleasure indeed."

Zarek nodded sincerely as he shook Kailen's hands with a warm smile, one that bore no malicious intent.

Noticing the genuine gesture, Kailen replied with a polite nod, returning the handshake.

"You flatter me. Please, kindly have your seat."

Kailen gestured politely, his voice calm, confident, not bearing the usual coldness it was rumored to possess.

If anyone was here, they would be extremely shocked at how Zarek had just treated Kailen.

Zarek was an extremely proud person, someone who didn't even give face to the councillors of the student council. Yet, here he was, acting extremely polite towards the young man before him.

It wasn't because Zarek was afraid of Kailen, or deemed Kailen stronger than him. It was because of Kailen's potential.

One of the reasons why the Atrexia family had come far in the business sector of the empire was because they had good eyes for discerning people who were worth befriending than offending. Zarek knew that the young man before him was one of those people.

The Atrexia clan had a common saying they ingrained in their wards during their tutelage:

Strength, when severed from reason, is akin to a comet without orbit, brilliant for a moment, yet destructive in its fall.

This statement ensured that the members of the Atrexia family grew up to be individuals who prioritized using sound judgment to approach situations, as much as they used physical strength when the need arose.

Kailen had the potential to become an extremely powerful person in not only the empire, but in the vast universe, Zarek believed, having used his reason to observe Kailen's achievements recently—unlike some insensible brutes who preferred making him their enemy.

If only he knew how glad he would be in the future for making the right judgement about the young man before him .

Without wasting Kailen's time, Zarek, knowing that Kailen was the introverted type from what he had gleaned from his sister about the young prodigy, got down to business, not wasting any more time on useless pleasantries .
