Chapter 227: Girl Talk
The steamy air in the bath chamber swirled with the scent of vanilla and eucalyptus, a soothing of the soap water that calms the mind.
The large wooden tub, warded with heat spells, cradled Moca, Catherina, Mira, and Pierce in its warm embrace, the water rippling gently with their movements.
The girls laughter up until now echoed softly, their earlier tension from the slug battle melting away in the heat.
But the mischievous glint in their eyes hadn't faded, especially now, as they caught the faint blush coloring Moca's pale cheeks at the mention of Adam's name, the academy's legendary president.
"Hahaha....
"Ehehehe...
"Fufufuf...
The sound of the girls laughter echoed in mischief.
As Moca's crimson eyes flicked away, her usual haughty mask struggling to hold under the gaze of their teasing stares.
Her hand tightened around the edge of the tub, water dripping from her fingers as she tried to regain her composure.
The idea of Adam...a human, no less, stirring even a flicker of reaction in her was absurd.
She was a Cain, a vampire of the purest noble lineage of royalty.
Yet the girls knowing smiles, especially Catherina's sly grin, made her feel uncomfortably exposed.
"Okay, okay, hold up."
Catherina said, her voice brimming with delight as she leaned forward, splashing water with her movement, as she stride towards her.
"Did you just blush over Prez Adam? Moca, the untouchable shadow queen, getting all flustered? This is gold!"
She clapped her hands, sending droplets flying, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"...Shadow Queen...
She mentioned, to which Catherina said.
"Your quite laid back aren't you, ever since these last three days pass that you where here, that is what the boys are calling you, since the sheer amount of bullshit you could with your shadows are actually quite insane, I wouldn't be surprised if you made it to the Elite class after the exam. But screw that I am trying to picked that beautiful brain of yours... So Adam eh?!"
Catherina said, and asked, and soon after another of the girls stepped in.
"...Can't blame her girl, super rich, superpowerful, and super fucking handsome. What girl wouldn't be moist for a man like that?!"
Mira said as her hair was still pinned up in a messy bun, as she leaned back in with a smirk.
"I mean, I get it. The guy's a walking myth, even before this academy was founded, his feats in Celestine are multiple. And it doesn't help either knowing he from a duke family. So it is easy to think that he is easily the strongest human in the academy, maybe the within the whole Sector of Celestine. With all that going for him he is a total heartthrob material. But you, Moca? I thought you were immune to that stuff."
"Cause not gonna lie, alot of the guys here you turned down, or straight up try to ignore are basically Adam with lesser feats, but they still pretty damn rich as they are powerful you know?!"
Meanwhile Pierce, lounging with her scarred cheek catching the steam's glow, chuckled low.
"You could say that again, still Moca quite sheltered, to be honest now that I think about it, your family is kind of close to Solomon family too right, alongside the House of Bathory?!"
Moca's lips pressed into a thin line, her blush deepening despite her efforts to suppress it.
"I heard your family, the Same family where quite the seductive bunch, so it's a little funny how inexperience you kind of come off Moca."
Said Peirce once more, causing Moca to reply back saying.
"You're all ridiculous."
She snapped, her voice sharp but lacking its usual venomous edge.
"He is strong, I'll give him that. But I'm not some lovesick girl swooning over a pretty face. My standards are... higher."
She paused, her hand drifting to her belly, an instinctive gesture tied to her earlier comment about needing an exceptional specimen. The girls didn't miss it, their giggles filling the air.
"Oh, higher standards, huh?"
Catherina teased, nudging Moca's shoulder.
"So, Adam's not exceptional enough? Girl, you're tougher to please than a dragon guarding its hoard. But fine, let's keep the game going. Mira, your turn, Rex, Kael, Rance. Marry, fuck, kill??"
Moca exhaled, grateful for the shift in focus, though her mind was elsewhere.
The lingering surge of Blood Astrum from the west still thrummed in her senses even here, a dark undercurrent that refused to be ignored.
Great Ichora's presence, or the power of someone wielding it, was a mystery that gnawed at her, more unsettling than any slug swarm.
'Again is it a student that called her here?'
'Or maybe a rogue spiritualist infiltrating the exam? It so why?!'
It was quite obvious that Moca had a lot of questions, however the only way she was going to find out was by going to the place itself.
'Maybe I should really take a look, I just know something bad is going to happen, and Ichora presence here doesn't ease me one bit especially knowing the fact that she is not on my side this time around.'
Said Moca to herself, as she was in deep thinking.
Meanwhile Mira, oblivious to Moca's inner turmoil, tapped her chin thoughtfully.
"Okay, let's see... Marry Rex...he got that 'Top Dog' vibe you know, probably good for stability. Fuck Kael, as powerful as he is, guys like that probably doesn't give a rat ass about monogamy these days...and I'm not immune to a bad boy. And it goes without saying that I will just Kill Rance...sorry, but his playboy act gets old fast, and he kind of creepy all things considered."
Pierce snorted, splashing water at Mira.
"Rance would be devastated to hear that. He is out there thinking he has got a shot with every girl here, especially Moca."
She shot a playful glance at Moca, who rolled her eyes but didn't respond.
Catherina grinned, clearly enjoying herself.
"My turn! Marry Kael... I got a thing for the strong, and silent type, he gives me the feeling of being a good and intense lover in private. Fuck Rex, just because I really don't like Rance. That pretty boy is such a dick too, despite being quite capable."
Right after she winked at Moca while saying.
"Your turn again, princess. And no dodging this time. Pick three guys, anyone, even Adam if you're feeling uncomfortable with default three we picked for the game."
Moca's jaw tightened, her fingers tracing the edge of the tub as she considered brushing them off again.
But the girls expectant stares and the rare moment of camaraderie made her relent, if only to keep the peace.
"Finnnnnnne....
She said, her voice cool but tinged with a reluctant amusement.
"If I must... Marry then I would picked Adam, just because... if I had to Fuck... Then it is Adam again, if only to see if his power lives up to the hype. Kill Rance. His flirting is an insult to my intelligence."
The girls erupted into laughter, Catherina nearly slipping under the water in her glee.
"Oh my gods, you did pick Adam for both Marry and Fuck! I knew it! And poor Rance, getting killed thrice!"
She clutched her sides, water splashing as she laughed.
Mira wiped a tear from her eye, still giggling.
"Okay, but seriously, Adam? That's bold, especially given the fact who is fiancés is. I mean, the guy is practically a deity around here. And the competition for him would be a nightmare, and there also the fact of do think you could handle him?"
Moca's lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile, her crimson eyes glinting in the steam.
She felt her Pride as Cainite princess being attack here.
"Handle him? Please. If he is as strong as they say, he might just keep up with me barley."
Her tone was haughty, but a flicker of genuine curiosity betrayed her prideful declaration of dominance.
Pierce on the other hand leaned back, her scar catching the light as she studied Moca.
"You know, you're hard to read, but I bet you're thinking about more than just this game. You've been distracted since we got here. Something up?"
Moca stiffened, her mask snapping back into place.
"It's nothing."
'Are human girls intuition really this good, she is the second of them to realize I am on edge.'
Moca said to herself.
As Pierce said these words curtly, but the lie felt hollow. The Blood Astrum's presence was growing stronger.
But still she don't want involved humans with Monster affairs.
"Just tired of this place. The slugs, the cold, the endless fighting. It's... tedious, can't believe we still have three more weeks in this place."
Catherina tilted her head, unconvinced but letting it slide.
"Fair enough. This exam's a nightmare. But you're, like, thriving out there. Those slugs didn't stand a chance. Makes me wonder what you would do if something really dangerous showed up. I am curious to see just how strong you are."
Moca's eyes darkened, her thoughts drifting back to the west. "
"You don't want to know... Curiosity kills the cat you know."
she murmured teasingly.
The girls exchanged glances but didn't press further, sensing the shift in her mood. The bath's warmth was losing its comfort now though, the steam no longer enough to drown out the unease creeping up her spine.
"Alright, new round!"
Mira declared, breaking the tension.
"Let's pick some teachers this time. Headmistress, Professor Varkis, or... ooh, that creepy librarian, Master Toren."
But this was a good time to bail, because in that moment, Moca got up as she said.
"I think I will pass this time, I am kind of hungry."
Without saying anything else Moca leave the bath.
