Chapter 214: Moca Cain
The massive doors of the auditorium hall's closed behind Adam with a resonant thud, as he existed the building Nyx began to say the last bits of her speech leaving the students locked in their for a tad bit longer.
However he himself decided to excuse his presence from that space.
"Mnnnhhhnnn...
Adam groaned as he stretch his arms upwards, he walks outside, his sight meeting with the rising moon.
And even now he could see Losdeus message informing him how he has gotten stronger.
[Your speed has increased slightly]
[Your defense has increased slightly]
[Your strength has increased slightly]
The different notification, all click in Adam's head, prologue aspect kicking in due to setting of the genre.
He could feel it.
The faint, steady surge of power threading through every part of him, growing a little stronger with each passing second.
It was a feeling he has already grown used to, as this the power of the <Prologue Aspect> was a passive one.
But as the sensation settled in, Adam turned his gaze toward the academy's main building.
He decided to climb the wide, echoing stairs, heading for the upper floors where the different classes were stationed.
Casually taking a walked to kill some time, before the start of entry exam's.
By the time he reached the third story, the night sky had unfolded above the city like a vast, jeweled blanket.
From these hollow halls, Adam had the perfect view. No one else was here...just him, the cool air, and the quiet hum of distant lights flicker in his view.
He leaned on the railing, taking in the sight in fully.
"Ha, tonight really is a beautiful night."
He murmured to himself.
"I'm so excited for this new chapter in my life. Still…
He sighed, a flicker of longing in his voice.
"I wonder how my sisters are doing."
From this vantage point, the city of Celestine glimmered far below, every streetlight and rooftop sharp against the darkness. New Hera Academy, perched high on the mountain, offered a view unlike any other, it was a private, exclusive property, and wholly under Nyx's ownership.
But as Adam stared, savoring the scene, a strange sensation crawled up his spine.
Someone was watching him.
He was after all picking up the energy of the mysterious onlooker. Which told him that the stalker wasn't human.
'Monster Energy.'
He thought, lips tightening, then shortly after in worry, he began to speculate.
'Hmmm. Don't tell me… Yarquella is spying on me.'
The thought rooted itself in his mind, pulling him deeper into speculation about just what kind of situation he had stumbled into.
Alas, he shook it off, as he began to walk these empty hallways yet again.
Till eventually from where he was, he was looking through a window, and he saw that the rest of the students finally exited the auditorium.
Naturally Adam just shrugged it off, as he continue to walk on until he reach the back exit of the building.
Outside, the air was fresher, the white lunar wash of the moon spilling across the academy's pristine courtyards shine upon Adam as he walks to the epicenter of the Academy.
Now he was in the open, yet he could still sense that whisk of monster energy trailing him.
'... Thankfully whoever this is, doesn't have any hostility towards me, I can't sense any killing intent, either that, or they are just good at hiding their bloodlust.'
Adam said to himself, as he continued to walk.
For the most part though, the campus was alive with motion.
For many of these students, it was the first time they had stepped foot into such a place, and the energy was palpable.
Footsteps rushed along the stone paths, voices rose and fell in hurried exchanges, the scent of newly forged gear and freshly unpacked uniforms hung in the air.
Yet no matter where Adam walked, the flow of that mysterious stalker movement bent around him.
But it soon died down a bit, when he pass the crowd of students now around him.
Eyes followed him instinctively, some wide with awe, some narrowed in quiet calculation, and many glancing away quickly before he could meet them. Even here, on their very first day, the unspoken gulf between them was obvious.
Adam wasn't just a fellow peer. He was Van Hellsing. The name alone placed him in a sphere of influence few could even dream of reaching, and for that even these prideful nobles muchless the commoners seem to afraid to approach him casually.
A group of students ahead parted without a word, as though moved by some silent current, giving him the path without needing to be asked.
A few tried to look casual about it, adjusting straps on their bags or feigning interest in the layout of the courtyard.
But Adam had spent years reading people, he could feel the tension radiating off them.
The academy was brand new, its walls still untouched by the scars of time. The glass panels of the main buildings reflected the orange light of newly weld metal, and the banners of New Hera Academy swayed lazily in the breeze.
Even the training fields smelled faintly of fresh paint and oiled steel, their racks lined with unused weapons awaiting the hands of their first wielders.
As Adam passed another cluster of students testing their newly issued survival kits they where tasked by Nyx to picked up before they depart, one boy's hands stilled mid-motion.
He stared, transfixed, as if caught in the pull of some gravitational force.
His charm and aura was to his dismay even working on the same sex, and not just the opposite sex either.
Adam respectfully just met his gaze briefly, offering only the faintest curl of a smile before continuing on.
The boy's friends nudged him, whispering in hurried tones once Adam was out of earshot.
Not everyone avoided his eyes. Here and there, a few bold ones watched him openly, fresh recruits with ambition burning so hot they hadn't yet learned to hide it.
Adam filed away their faces in the back of his mind.
In a way, this walk was to see or rather to hunt for potential candidate, after all he needed to finish organizing the student council.
And he only wants the best of the best.
And he was glad to see some of the students where not wasting their efforts, as some of the decided to get one last round of training in before the big exam.
The sound of training dummies being struck drew him toward the edge of the combat yard.
Several students were awkwardly testing their weapons, movements raw and unrefined. They weren't fighters yet.
Most had probably never seen real combat outside of simulations, a proper method of training among the nobles, but soon… they would be thrown into it headfirst.
Once more, Adam slipped away from the crowd, springing up onto the roof of the auditorium building a vantage point where he could see everyone in clear view.
He let out another sigh and slowly turned his head. Whoever had been tailing him wasn't giving up anytime soon. They were clearly determined to meet him.
"Sigh… you know."
He began, raising his voice just enough to carry into the shadows.
"You could be way more subtle with your stalking methods. Following me this long is starting to creep me out. Show yourself, already. I can already sense your Monster Energy, so just reveal yourself to me get what you want off your chest."
In response, a pair of glowing crimson eyes pierced through the darkness behind him. The faint outline of a figure began to materialize, her shape wrapped in a swirling cloak of living shadow.
The black shroud clung to her for a heartbeat before melting away, receding into the ground at her feet and rejoining her own shadow.
Now fully revealed, she stood at no more than 4'9, her presence small but radiating a quiet, dangerous confidence.
Her skin was pale...so pale it was almost doll like, as if she hadn't had a drop of blood left in her veins. Long silver hair cascaded over her shoulders, catching what little moonlight there was. Her brows, thick and silver, framed those bright, unblinking red eyes that seemed to look straight through him.
She looked young, eighteen or nineteen at most, but Adam knew better than to take appearances at face value.
He recognized her instantly.
Moca Cain.
One of the heroines from the original HDXD visual novel, and the youngest daughter of the Vampire King. The memory of her character hit him like a jolt...this was someone who, in the story he knew, was a central point of the original story.
Adam's lips curled into a faint, almost amused smile.
"Well… of all people I wasn't expecting a vampire to attend my school
Moca tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "
"You recognized me faster than I thought you would... No rather you know who I am?"
She said suprise as she was shocked someone figured out her identity.
