Chapter 251: Crocodile’s Tears
"Ah!"
Amid a scream, Harry, clutching his groin, fell down first.
Link's "Bladder-Explosion" compared to other low-level dark curses, negative effect truly is far too powerful.
Merely Harry such a small wizard fundamentally cannot resist.
Meanwhile Lupin and Sirius also did not idle.
Sirius is constantly into the mist releasing offensive curses, one might say smashing them randomly.
But this cannot be blamed on him.
He himself is half-mad.
Past over ten years of Azkaban imprisonment life furthermore caused his strength not to progress but regress.
From certain extent to say, Sirius so long without touching wand, now as soon as in hand able to flexibly use magic, already is very formidable.
In comparison Lupin is much more clever.
Multiple years traveling doing odd-jobs life not only has made his hair turn gray, simultaneously also taught him many messy curses, and combat experience.
He from the moment his field of vision was blocked already immediately started using Whirlwind-Sweep to dispel mist, until now already opened a clear-seeing safe zone.
Additionally, using the ground in a large swath around where they stand as center, he transformed by curse into a swamp, so as to defend against Link and Snape potentially arriving close-range attack.
At least from such distance they have sufficient time to react, block the attack.
Only, what use is that?
They now already are sitting ducks; Link and Snape fundamentally didn't think about close-range attack or sneak-attack using vision advantage.
Facing current situation, just directly crush past is sufficient.
The two of them, after Link first knocked down Harry, immediately gathered together, simultaneously raised wands toward direction where Lupin and Sirius stand.
"Sectumsempra!" ×2
Two invisible blades dozen-meter long, in X-shape crossing, shot out.
Lupin and Sirius only saw distant cloud sea a wave surge, then slicing-sound violently rushed.
Seeing that scene their pupils sharply shrank, intense sense of danger stimulated every sweat hair to stand up.
At that moment their school-days cultivated tacit-understanding came into play.
Without any hesitation, two, in synchronous motion, waved their wands.
"Protego Totalum!" ×2
Two almost solidified light-shields, one front one back, stood before them.
This is enhanced version of Protego Totalum, defense ability far exceeds the version Harry and others can cast.
But at the instant blade and light-shield contact, invisible blades instead transformed into pure curse power and directly exploded, shattering those two layers of shields into dust across the sky.
This is not over yet.
Two scarlet Disarmer curses almost seamlessly followed through the light-dust, directly disarming Lupin and Sirius's wands.
Sirius still able, just wants to grab the wand hanging mid-air, but next moment, larch-wood wand forcefully pressed against his throat.
Unconvinced Sirius roared angrily, wanting to continue fighting.
But…
"Stupefy!"
Wand tip gray-gleamed in a flash.
Sirius collapsed upright to ground.
On the other side, Lupin also being pointed at on the head by Link's wand.
He is not as impulsive as Sirius.
He raised both hands, toward Link bitter-smiled and said, "I lost."
Link did not reply; he collected Lupin and Sirius's wands, then turned his attention to Snape's side.
At that moment Snape was still pointing wand at already unconscious Sirius.
His expression was hideously fierce. Anyone could see now his inner heart is undergoing violent struggle.
Struggle over whether directly kill Sirius.
This scene naturally also seen by Lupin. His lips muttered as if wanting to plead, but ultimately no sound came out.
Because he understood.
Now no matter what he says Snape will not listen.
Moreover due to his special identity, if he speaks he might provoke Snape, causing Snape to resolutely kill.
Thinking so, Lupin finally could only use pleading gaze at Link, hoping he could go comfort.
Now only Link, his favored disciple, might reach Snape.
Only unfortunately Link simply didn't buy into that, still wholly indifferent appearance.
"Do not counsel others until you've suffered their hardships." Link fully respects Snape's choice.
After all, as he guessed, Sirius and them, their bullying has already become some kind of inner demon for Snape.
Perhaps only by personally killing Sirius can Snape end this long nightmare.
Indeed it did.
After hesitation struggle moment, the wand tip still shone with eerie green light.
This is prelude to Avada Kedavra.
Lupin seeing, completely despair.
And right then, accompanied by heavenly bird-song, a great burst of flame suddenly exploded between Sirius and Snape.
Snape's casting was interrupted, and he was knocked back several paces.
Dumbledore and Phoenix Fawkes slowly appeared from the flames; he gazed at Snape, eyes full of disappointment and pity.
"That's enough, Severus." Dumbledore spoke slowly, voice carrying deep fatigue.
Snape, however, unfazed, stared into Dumbledore's eyes with anger that almost formed actual flames, his gaze as if questioning why Dumbledore prevented him!
For a moment the two fell into strange stalemate.
On the other side, Link's attention was not quite the same as Snape's.
What he first noticed was the rat in Dumbledore's hand.
It is a rat with defects in both front paws, fur bald rat.
'Scabbers, Peter! But… if he is here? What about Emily and the others?!'
Link's heart jolted; the hand holding the wand tightened.
This scared Lupin a bit.
A wand also can misfire.
Originally, upon Dumbledore's appearance, he had wanted to rush over to check Sirius's injuries.
But startled by Link, he could only raise both hands in surrender.
Soon from nearby forest rang a series of loud noises, then riding Arkam's back, Emily appeared under escort of Yoyo and a cluster of Skars.
"Link!"
Emily waved shouting toward Link.
She now looked somewhat bedraggled; her custom black robe scraped and torn by branches, hair messy with even a few leaves stuck on.
"Emily, are you all right?"
Link at that moment no longer attended to Lupin; saying so he ran to Emily, lifting her from the snake-body.
During this Arkam affectionately pressed head close as if to nuzzle Link's face, but was brusquely pushed away by Link.
At the moment his eyes were full of Emily.
"I'm fine."
Emily bowed head, said somewhat guiltily, "It's just, just the things Link asked me to do…"
"Don't worry about such unimportant things."
Link interrupted, "I only need you safe, that's enough!"
At hearing, Emily's eyes reddened, mist rising in them; she nodded then leaned against Link's chest.
They sweet-coupled a moment, then Emily finally told of their earlier pursuit of Peter Pettigrew.
Turns out Link's initial estimate wasn't wrong, with Skagar's help, Emily and others soon caught up with Peter.
At that time Peter already turned back into Animagus rat form, preparing to sneak into Hogsmeade.
Clearly he wasn't Emily and Arkam's opponent; she caught him decisively.
But just when Emily was about to pursuant Link's previous instructions and outright kill Peter, Dumbledore appeared.
He took away Peter on basis that children like Emily shouldn't stain hands with blood.
Upon Emily's recounting, Link gently patted her back to comfort.
Indeed it was not Emily's fault.
Dumbledore that old fox definitely had been watching all along; otherwise his timing wouldn't have been so precise.
Sighing, Link retrieved Arkam and the Yoyo, placing them back on himself.
Worth mentioning, Arkam seemed angered by Link's earlier push.
After crawling into Link's robe, it wrapped tightly around his arm, so painful that Link gasped.
On the other side, the confrontation between Snape and Dumbledore seemed to end.
Snape snorted coldly, but ultimately still unwillingly went to help cast counter-curse for Sectumsempra on Sirius.
At that moment Harry and Hermione already gathered beside Sirius; watching the wound on Sirius's cheek gradually heal, Hermione looked at Link and Snape with complex expression, then said to Dumbledore, "Dumbledore, Snape and Link, they…"
"I know, Miss Granger, I know it all."
Dumbledore interrupted, "But now we still have something more important to handle."
After saying that Dumbledore looked at the rat Peter in his hand.
Peter seemed to sense impending danger, struggled fiercely. But Dumbledore's hand grasping his tail was like iron clamp.
"Let me see, who exactly are you…" Dumbledore shook his wand, murmuring.
His rat quickly twisted and grew, and finally was thrown onto the ground by Dumbledore, turning into ratty-eyed Peter Pettigrew.
"D-Dumbledore! Remus, and S-Sirius!"
Peter trembled whole body, squeezed out a smile, "My friends, my old friends."
At that moment Sirius already been awakened by Lupin.
Upon seeing Peter, he roared angrily and charged; his crazed look as if wanting to bite Peter alive.
Peter screamed in fright, clutched Dumbledore's leg.
Dumbledore without hesitation kicked Peter away, coldly said, "Peter, regarding why you didn't die, I want you to explain."
At hearing, Peter entire body froze; he lifted head, voice trembling, "I was too terrified! Dumbledore! Really! Sirius was going to kill me because I discovered his conspiracy! I hid because of fear, I knew he wouldn't let it go, he would come back for me!"
"You knew Black would escape from Azkaban? That's not plausible," Dumbledore frowned, "No one has ever done that before."
"He has black magic we cannot even imagine!" Peter shrieked, "Otherwise how could he escape? I suspect it was that one-who-must-not-be-named teaching him some tricks!"
Upon hearing that, Sirius suddenly laughed strangely.
"Preposterous reason! Just admit it, Peter. For twelve years you weren't hiding from me," Sirius said, "But hiding from those Death Eaters!"
"Think about it, Peter, Voldemort followed your information to the Potters, so what happened? He died! And how did his followers think of that? Hmm? They called you a liar! You hid because you were afraid the still-out-there Death Eaters would retaliate!"
"I don't know what you're saying!"
Peter roared, "Dumbledore, you won't actually believe his nonsense, will you? He's a madman!"
Dumbledore shook his head, a glint appeared in his eyes, that is effect of Legilimens.
He slowly said, "That's enough Peter, you are lying through your teeth, I don't want to listen any more. For now, all come with me back to Hogwarts. I trust the Ministry will give you a properly judicial hearing."
"Also, Severus, you quickly take Miss Victoria and Link back, time is already late."
After speaking, Dumbledore waved his hand, guiding Lupin and the others with Peter toward Hogwarts.
Peter naturally didn't want that; he cried and shouted continuously, his cloudy tears even wetting the dirty ragged grey clothes on him.
Link watching from afar somewhat helpless.
Because he knows clearly, Peter in Ministry's hands at worst consequence is being imprisoned in Azkaban.
And according to this world's powerful narrative inertia, Peter will definitely later escape.
Sighing, Link stepped forward and called after Dumbledore.
This immediately made Hermione and the others nervous. They knew just now Link caused them no small trouble.
Dumbledore instead smiled and said, "Link, is there something else?"
"There isn't anything big, I need to collect some tears from Peter Pettigrew."
"Tears? What do you want that for?!" Lupin warily raised an eyebrow.
He inwardly feels Link must have ill intent.
Only, Link's gaze remained on Dumbledore, with no intention to answer him.
Then, with Dumbledore's slow nod, Link used a Floating Charm to collect some tears, carefully placing them into an empty potion bottle.
After finishing that, Link meaningfully said to Lupin, "Crocodile's tears are very precious potion ingredient!"
At the words, everyone, including Dumbledore, froze a moment.
Link smiled very happily.
Because a golden caption once again appeared before his eyes.
[Crocodile's Tears' achieved! Freedom skill-point 1 obtained!]
