Chapter 250: Black Wizard Link
"Whew! Finally caught up."
Amidst a cloud of smoke and dust, Link let out a breath of relief and murmured.
At this moment, lying before him, Snape had already been beaten black and blue, almost about to lose consciousness.
If he had come just a little later, who knew, Snape's situation might have been even more miserable.
Of course, since he was here now, there was naturally no "if."
After observing Snape's condition, Link didn't bother with Lupin and the others outside. He simply crouched down and pulled Snape into his arms.
Then, he took out fresh bird-flower essence, a wakefulness potion, and Barffy brain-awakening potion, pouring them into Snape's mouth.
Once he had finished all this, Snape's pupils, which had been somewhat unfocused, gradually became clear again.
Throughout this process, Snape's gaze remained fixed on Link's face.
In a daze, Snape felt as if he had returned to that battlefield filled with flying spells.
Back then, it was also a boy with the surname Foley who had saved him when he was half-unconscious.
For a moment, Snape could not tell fantasy from reality.
Being stared at with such an indescribable expression from the other side, Link felt a little awkward.
"Ahem!"
He coughed twice, let go of Snape, and let him stand on his own.
"Thank you, Link."
After standing up, Snape quickly averted his gaze, patted the dust-covered black robes on himself, and then calmly said, "You're not their match. Give me your wand and hide far away. Leave the rest to me."
"It's fine. I have two wands." Link said this and took another wand out of his wand pouch, tossing it over.
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he reminded, "But this wand is rather special, you might not be able to use it well…"
Link's words stopped halfway, because he saw that Snape had already caught the wand, and at the instant his palm touched it, the wand shone with a brilliant golden light.
This was the sign of a wand's full recognition of its user.
A flash of surprise crossed Link's face.
Because the wand he had just tossed out was the larch wand he had first used when he came here.
Long-term use of this wand would subtly influence its wielder, making them braver and more confident, a very precious and powerful functional wand.
But this great effect also made its conditions for choosing a master extremely harsh.
Unless the wizard possessed both great natural talent and personality flaws such as timidity and introversion, they would be unable to draw out the wand's full power, like Link himself when he first crossed over, leading to a huge drop in actual strength.
Yet now Snape had instantly gained this wand's recognition.
But thinking carefully, it was actually easy to understand.
Snape was undoubtedly talented, otherwise he could not have become a professor.
And judging from his past experiences, he truly had been an introverted and self-abased youth.
"Tsk tsk!"
Clicking his tongue in amazement, Link smiled kindly at Snape, who was now looking at him.
This smile made Snape dazed once again.
Taking a deep breath, Snape activated Occlumency to calm himself again, then turned around. Side by side with Link, they stepped over the scorched earth left by the explosion, heading toward Lupin and the others.
Seeing the two of them approaching slowly, Lupin's side fell into chaos.
Lupin actually wanted to run away with Sirius Black, because in the current situation, they had absolutely no chance of victory.
Harry and the others didn't matter, Snape wouldn't hurt them.
But if he and Sirius were caught, they would be in trouble.
With Snape's nasty personality, it was entirely possible that he would hand the two of them over to Dementors without hesitation.
And the Dementors, following the Ministry's earlier orders, would immediately give them each a Dementor's Kiss.
So they had to escape.
At the very least, they had to escape to Dumbledore.
Only if Dumbledore knew about this would they have a chance to expose the truth and save their lives.
Unfortunately, Sirius, having seen blood, was already in a half-mad state. All he wanted was to rush at Link and Snape head-on.
Lupin was already struggling just to hold him back, dragging him away was impossible.
Worse still, although Sirius's facial wound wasn't large, it kept bleeding. In just a short time, the blood had already dyed his collar red.
It was obvious, Link's first spell earlier had been Sectumsempra.
Such a wound could never heal without the counter-curse, and if they kept delaying, Sirius could bleed to death.
Right now, in all of Hogwarts, the only ones who knew the counter-curse for Sectumsempra were Snape and Link.
This was practically an unsolvable problem.
Gritting his teeth, Lupin held Sirius down with one hand and shouted toward the approaching Snape and Link, "Severus, there's really no need for us to fight to the death like this. I know Sirius did wrong earlier, I can apologize on his behalf!"
The answer Lupin received was a ball of gray light.
It whooshed out in an eerie curve and struck Lupin's legs.
In the next moment, a powerful force pulled his legs upward, hanging him upside down.
"If apologies were enough, then why would we need Aurors and Dementors?"
Rolling the larch wand in his hand, Snape said with a smile.
Without Lupin restraining him, Sirius transformed back into a big black dog and lunged fiercely at Snape.
He was so fast that to the naked eye he seemed a blur.
Unfortunately, Link had the Super Sensory Charm.
"Repel!"
With Link's chant, a surge of invisible curse power burst from his wand tip.
Sirius was knocked back.
Immediately after, Link swung his wand sharply downward.
"Suppress!"
BOOM!
A massive hammer of curse power descended from the sky, smashing directly onto Sirius.
The great force embedded him into the dirt, and at the same time, crushed the ground within two meters around him.
Blood kept seeping from Sirius's mouth and body, quickly blooming into a flower pattern on the transparent hammer of curse power.
Lupin roared and struggled desperately at the sight.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron also screamed, but unlike Lupin's anger, theirs held only fear.
And the one they feared wasn't Snape, it was Link.
After all, although Snape's words were venomous, he had never truly struck hard, and had even been beaten badly by Sirius earlier.
But Link was different.
Link had opened with a slash to Sirius's face, and then directly attacked them with Bombarda.
If not for Lupin's immediate counter-spell, they might all have been seriously injured, or even killed.
And now, Link had crushed Sirius with such a brutal method.
It was only natural to fear him.
Like Ron, at the sight of that blood-flower pattern, he fainted in terror.
But unlike Ron, after screaming, Harry felt a strange sense of absurdity.
In his eyes, Link had always been a sincere friend.
He simply couldn't believe Link could be this ruthless.
Gritting his teeth, Harry still stepped forward shakily, shouting, "Stop it, Link! You'll kill him! We're friends! How can you… how can you do something like this?!"
Harry's voice trembled and choked.
Link turned his head and glanced at him, but showed no intention of letting Sirius go.
Earlier, Sirius's wild accusations had nearly gotten him killed.
Although rationally he knew Sirius wasn't entirely to blame, that didn't stop Link from holding a grudge.
And besides, Sirius's Animagus body wasn't that fragile.
By Link's estimate, this level of attack would at most make him quiet down for a while.
Harry's despair deepened at Link's indifference.
Just then, Hermione grabbed his hand and said, "Harry, we have to get back to Hogwarts! Only by finding Dumbledore can we end this!"
"But…" Harry hesitated, unwilling to leave, he knew that if he left, Sirius and Lupin would be doomed.
But Hermione was firm, yanking Harry and snapping, "Don't be naive! Link won't help us! He's a black wizard, just like Snape!"
"What are you talking about?! That's impossible!"
"It's true! I'm telling the truth!"
Hermione's eyes reddened, tears falling. "Link has the ability to control Dementors to some extent. Remember that Quidditch match against Hufflepuff? It was him who lured the Dementors there so Hufflepuff would win, that's Professor Lupin's deduction."
"And the real proof that convinced me Link is a black wizard is that he can't cast a Patronus! You've learned it too, you know what that means, right?"
At these words, Harry's gaze toward Link instantly changed.
He knew the special requirement for casting a Patronus, though hard to explain, his understanding was, someone who can cast one isn't necessarily good, but someone who can't is definitely bad.
Swallowing hard, Harry stepped back in fear.
Deep inside, he already believed Hermione.
On the other side, Link naturally heard their conversation.
His expression was hard to describe, something between a confused look and utter disbelief, full of complexity and speechlessness.
He really hadn't expected Hermione to come up with such an idea, and the worst part was, it actually sounded reasonable enough to believe.
What made him even more speechless was that Snape seemed to have mistaken his expression for disappointment and sadness.
Snape, in a rare gesture, patted his shoulder to comfort him, then turned to Hermione and shouted angrily, "Miss Know-It-All, I warn you to stop playing with your half-baked knowledge! You clearly don't understand anything, yet you insist on spouting nonsense!"
Snape looked even angrier than when Hermione and Harry had stolen potion ingredients to make Polyjuice Potion.
This made Hermione's intended retort suddenly stick in her throat, and she kept shrinking back.
At that moment, taking advantage of Link and Snape's distraction, Lupin finally grabbed his wand and used Finite Incantatem to release himself from Snape's Levicorpus.
"Confringo!"
As soon as he landed, white light burst from his wand tip, shooting straight at Link.
The sudden attack startled Link. His pupils shrank, and almost by instinct, he raised his wand.
The next moment, wand met white light, and powerful magic erupted like a blazing plasma explosion.
Snape was alarmed and hurried to steady Link, who had staggered back.
Link waved his hand, signaling he was fine.
Such an attack naturally couldn't truly harm him, but it had indeed forced him to shift his magic away, instantly removing the suppression on Sirius.
And that was exactly what Lupin had wanted.
Lupin rushed forward to help Sirius, who had been forced back into human form, and, after confirming he wasn't mortally wounded, shoved Ron's wand into Sirius's hand.
"Sirius, we've got no time to rest, get up and fight, or we're all finished today!"
At Lupin's roar, Sirius struggled to his feet as if in a final burst of strength.
Harry also ignored Hermione's advice.
He pulled free from her grip and stood beside Lupin, ready to fight together.
"Whew!"
Looking at the three who had regrouped, Link took a deep breath and muttered, "I'm starting to get angry."
"Then let's end this quickly," Snape said coldly, tapping his wand. Several spells of different colors shot toward the other side in strange trajectories.
Lupin and Sirius reacted quickly, working together to block the attack.
Just then, Link moved.
He wasn't like Snape, who held back everywhere.
Link opened with a basketball-sized fireball, hurling it forward.
This surprised Lupin and Sirius, its speed wasn't very fast, and they could easily dodge.
But Harry's face changed.
"Put out that fireball!"
He screamed hysterically, but it was too late.
"Evaporate!"
With Link's chant, the fireball exploded, turning into countless streams of scalding steam, enveloping all three.
Then blue light flashed in Link's eyes, and ignoring the steam's concealment, he swung his wand toward Harry.
"Bladder Explosion!"
