Chapter 245: What Do You Know?
Link and Emily stood behind Snape with expressionless faces, silently watching. They neither stepped forward to help, nor showed any intention to persuade or stop anything.
The Skars around them, however, appeared a little excited. They were panting with their tongues out, their eyes locked firmly onto Black.
As for Harry and the others, they were completely stunned, especially Harry and Ron. The two of them seemed like they still hadn't accepted the current reality, their bodies stiff as boards.
After a while, Hermione timidly took two steps toward Snape and said in an extremely soft voice, "Professor Snape, listen, listening to what they have to say wouldn't hurt, right?"
Hermione's words seemed to awaken Harry. He struggled to look between Sirius Black and Snape, then stammered,
"Yeah, Professor Snape, there's no need to be so tense. Professor Lupin said that the rat Scabbers is actually Peter Pettigrew. I think… it's better to verify that first, right?"
Hearing this, Snape, who was about to rebuke Harry, paused and cast a suspicious glance at the still struggling Scabbers in Ron's arms before saying, "Looks like I overestimated you, Potter Jr. It's only been a short ten minutes and you've already been brainwashed into this?"
"You're just as pathetic as your father, actually choosing to believe a liar like that. Like father, like son! This will lead you to die miserably, just like he did!"
"You, !"
"Enough!" Snape harshly cut him off.
"The things you mentioned will be verified later, but that is afterward! As for now, what I need to do is bring these two criminals to justice!"
Snape lowered his head and gave Sirius a cold smile as he said, "I'm sure the Dementors will give you, an old friend, a proper welcome!"
Sirius roared in rage and tried to get up and resist, but Snape turned and hit him hard again.
Seeing that there was no hope of convincing him, and having just been harshly scolded by Snape, Harry's face turned slightly red.
His eyes fell on the wand lying scattered on the ground at his feet. Fueled by anger and hatred, he finally made a decision, picked up his wand, and aimed it at the completely unguarded Snape.
"Expelliarmus!"
A flash of red light illuminated the dim room, shooting straight toward Snape.
Everyone in the room was startled.
Even Snape and those around him hadn't expected Harry to so brazenly attack a professor at a time like this.
But Link had been prepared.
"Protego!"
Along with Link's chant, a translucent shield instantly rebounded the red light, ironically blasting Harry's wand away again.
"Link! How could you, how could you help Snape!?"
Harry clutched his injured right hand and shouted in anger.
It wasn't just him, Hermione and Ron nearby also widened their eyes in disbelief, staring at Link.
All this time, they had seen Link as their best friend and firmly believed he stood on their side.
But now, it seemed that Link didn't think the same.
This hurt them deeply.
However, Link remained unmoved. As far as he was concerned, Snape was currently on his side. There was no way he'd stand by and let Harry defeat Snape.
What's more, Lupin's words had genuinely irritated him.
What was that nonsense about "Is it really worth sending an innocent man to Azkaban over a school-days grudge?"
As far as Link knew, during his school years, Snape had been repeatedly and one-sidedly bullied by James Potter and his friends.
The tricks used by James and Sirius included, but were not limited to, using Snape's own invented Levicorpus spell to publicly dangle him upside down and then strip him.
Some incidents nearly got Snape killed.
The severity of those events went far beyond just "pranks."
But Lupin brushed it off with a light-hearted "old school-days grudge."
How could someone say something like that?
Yes, perhaps in Lupin and Sirius' eyes, those were insignificant matters. Sirius might even think Snape deserved it.
After all, Snape did retaliate against them back then by telling on them.
But for Snape, those things left permanent psychological scars.
Now Lupin wanted to sweep it all under the rug so lightly? There was no way he could accept that.
Of course, Link wasn't saying he didn't care about the Peter Pettigrew matter.
Especially since Sirius still had some secret related to Link himself that hadn't been revealed.
Link planned to wait for Snape to finish venting his anger before interrogating Sirius for the truth. Then he'd seize Peter Pettigrew, and everything would end happily and perfectly.
Thinking this, Link took a few steps forward with his wand and said, "Don't blame me, Harry. Your current state is a bit strange. I strongly suspect you might have been put under the Imperius Curse by Sirius Black and Professor Lupin. Just to be safe, let's listen to Professor Snape."
"I'm not!"
Harry stiffened his neck to argue, but Link cut him off, "As for what you said, we'll confirm everything once we return."
"Even if you don't trust me or Professor Snape… surely you still trust Professor Dumbledore, right? I believe that if there's any hidden truth, he'd never wrongly accuse a good person."
Hearing Link mention Dumbledore, Harry's face eased a bit.
But then anxiety began to rise in his chest again.
Because he had just attacked Professor Snape.
That alone could be enough to get him expelled from Hogwarts.
But just now, Link had also offered him a way out, if he admitted he was under the Imperius Curse, he could avoid punishment perfectly.
But… wouldn't that disappoint Professor Lupin?
Harry's thoughts were in a mess.
At the same time, Sirius, whose forehead was still being pressed by Snape's wand, suddenly burst into wild laughter.
Everyone's attention was drawn to him, and only then did Sirius speak, "Link Flamel! You monster in human skin, you're a perfect match with that greasy bat Snape!"
"And you! That little girl over there, are you that monster's woman? How does it feel to dance with a monster? I guess..."
"Shut up! Scum!"
Snape shouted angrily and knocked Sirius to the ground.
Emily's face also turned cold.
Though Sirius hadn't finished what he was saying, it wasn't hard to guess he was about to spout something filthy and offensive.
As the Slytherin House's queen bee, Emily wasn't someone with a good temper.
She immediately pulled out her wand and aimed it at Sirius, ready to teach him a lesson.
But before she could act, Link pushed her wand down again.
Then, with a meaningful smile, Link slowly walked in front of Sirius, looking down at him and said, "What exactly do you know?"
