Harry Potter: The Wizard of Apocalypse

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Divination Lesson

"Painless Cutting Spell? Is that it?"

After class, on the path back to the castle, Ivy asked, raising her wand.

"Diffindo!"

An orange light flew out from the tip of the wand, instantly cutting off the scattered branches on the lawn.

"This is the most primitive version of the Cutting Spell. It does not have a painless effect. I think the Painless Cutting Spell should be a new spell derived from it, but I still need to verify what it is."

Ian immediately added after seeing his roommate cast magic.

In his previous life, he loved small animals very much. If he let his roommate use this original version of the Cutting Spell to cut the tail, it would be tantamount to abusing the crup.

Andre, who was a lively person, said seriously, "Yes, we are helping it, not abusing it. As I remember, this kind of spell is usually only used by the healers at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Maybe we can go to the school hospital and ask Madam Pomfrey for advice."

Andre's proposal was unanimously approved by everyone, so he proudly took on this task and went to the school hospital to find out how to cast the Painless Cutting Spell.

After the agreement was reached, the group quickened their pace and returned to the castle, as they had another Divination class in half an hour.

The top floor of the North Tower of Hogwarts Castle is the classroom for Divination and also Professor Trelawney's residence.

Several people passed through the dazzling spiral staircases, then climbed up a silver ladder. After several twists and turns, they finally reached their destination.

The first impression they had of this place was not that it was a classroom, but rather a mixture of a loft and an old-fashioned teahouse.

The room was filled with small round tables and various divination supplies. The lights in the classroom were covered with crimson lampshades, and the curtains were almost all drawn.

The fire in the fireplace gave off a dull, greasy smell, and everything about the place felt oppressive.

"It's a somewhat odd classroom."

This is the most honest evaluation Andre gave.

"Anyway, find a place to sit down. Class will start in less than 10 minutes."

As Ian spoke, he walked to the back of the classroom, to a small round table near the window.

Because there were enough tables here, the few of them did not squeeze together and each chose their favorite seat to sit down.

After a few minutes, many students who had chosen to take the Divination class arrived. Perhaps because the classroom was so depressing, no one had the heart to chat. They just sat quietly, waiting for class to start.

A while had passed since the class started, and just when everyone began to wonder if they had remembered the class time incorrectly, a hoarse and hazy voice came from the door.

"Well, I'm sorry, I wasted some time in the visual field. So I forgot about this Divination lesson in the material world..."

A middle-aged woman with a peculiar appearance slowly walked into the classroom. The first impression she gave people was that of a glittering bug.

Her slender body was covered with a thin, transparent cape dotted with many shiny metal pieces. Her long, thin neck was adorned with countless beads of various colors, and her arms and hands were also adorned with many bracelets and rings.

The most exaggerated thing was the pair of thick flower-shaped glasses, which magnified her already large eyes several times.

"I feel like she overslept with a hangover. You smell the alcohol on her."

Ivy complained to the side, and the sound was just right for all the students in the classroom to hear.

Professor Trelawney remained calm, as if she had not heard anything, and continued calmly, "Today's class is about card Divination. You can put your books aside for now. Divination is a profound magic. For those who have no talent for Divination at all, taking a Divination class is of no use to them. It is just a waste of time."

After she finished speaking, she did not forget to stare at Ivy for a few seconds, and the underlying meaning was expressed vividly.

"...Cards are also a kind of prediction. What we are going to learn today is the Minor Arcana, which can more specifically predict what a person will encounter. The fifty-six cards contain four suits: Wands, Holy Grails, Swords, and Pentacles..."

Professor Trelawney shuffled the cards and spread them on the small round table as she spoke. She drew a card seemingly at random, raised the card in her hand, and asked, "Can anyone tell me what this is?"

Although she behaved unreliably, answering questions in class was already ingrained in the young Eagles' DNA. After a little hesitation, many Ravenclaw students chose to raise their hands.

"It's the Queen of Wands." A lucky Ravenclaw got the chance to answer the question.

"Very good, one point for Ravenclaw."

"So professor, what does this mean?" someone suddenly asked.

"Ahaha, this is an upright card, symbolizing a compassionate, understanding, friendly, and affectionate hostess, pure and chaste, charming and elegant."

Professor Trelawney narrowed her eyes as she smiled.

"Now, shuffle the cards the way I just did, and then each of you draw one card, and we'll interpret and study it in turn."

Upon hearing this, the young wizards quickly piled up the cards on the table and carefully drew from them.

It was also Ian's first time coming into contact with this kind of thing. He took out a card step by step, and after opening it, he found that it was a "Calabash Server." Although he didn't know what it meant, he chose to look up the book to interpret it out of curiosity.

'Hardworking, studious, dedicated, loyal, thoughtful, and contemplative.'

Unexpectedly, this was a pretty good card, but Ian didn't put too much faith in this kind of Divination.

In his previous life, he also studied the "Book of Changes" for a period of time. This ancient Eastern divination is more real and magical. It is a divination based on the original laws of the universe.

Just then, a shrill voice rang out.

"Oh no! God, how pitiful, the King of Pentacles, corrupt, evil, greedy, old and unrepentant, betrayal, killing, death..."

After hearing the sound, Ian also looked over curiously, wanting to see who was so unlucky. As expected, he saw Ivy... At this moment, Professor Trelawney was explaining it exaggeratedly beside him.

"Professor, this is the upright King of Pentacles, but you interpreted it as the reversed one!" Ivy looked at the unreliable professor in front of him speechlessly.

"Oh, no, no, no, you don't know how to tell fortunes. Fate changes all the time. When you showed it to me, it was already reversed, so... poor child."

Ivy: "…"

However, Ian at this time agreed with Professor Trelawney's words. This is very close to the central idea of the I Ching, and is also the "change of hexagrams" in I Ching divination—repetition, coming and going, circulation, advance and retreat, and waxing and waning.

Future changes can be predicted, but they will still change after being predicted.

The rest of the time was spent in Professor Trelawney's interpretation. Most of the students were forced to be interpreted in reverse by her, with all kinds of tragedies emerging one after another... A small number of well-behaved students like Ian, who were pleasing to her, were given the correct interpretation.

The class ended in this farce-like, absurd atmosphere.

"Well, man, don't think too much. I understand. She is a liar. But the good thing is that it will be easy for us to get good grades in exams in the future."

After class, Andre looked at Ivy, who was a little depressed, and did not forget to comfort his friend beside him.

Ian also added, "Yes, there are very few prophets who can truly predict the future. Obviously, our Divination professor is not one of them."
