Chapter 3: Chapter 3 We are the same
Three well-dressed otakus sat inside an off-road vehicle.
"Boss, do we really have to dress like this?"
Wade pulled a mask over his face. The warm air made it clear that it was June.
"We're going to steal something, so we can't just dress however we like. Do you want trouble later?"
Chino popped a piece of chocolate into her mouth and let out a small burp. Around her, chocolate wrappers were stacked like a small mountain.
"Boss, what exactly are we stealing? Is it worth the trouble?"
"The Life Foundation has discovered an alien symbiote from space that grants its host immense power and rapid healing abilities. We have to get our hands on it."
Chino didn't bother hiding the truth, nor did she tell the two men to back out.
"That sounds amazing. If you weren't paying me, I'd want one for myself," Wade joked. It was hard to find a boss as generous as Chino.
"There are multiple symbiotes inside, but each one has its own consciousness and desires. If you can't control it, it'll control you."
"Well, I don't exactly want a third wheel when I'm with Vanessa, but Boss, aren't you worried about being taken over?"
"That's why I'll be going in myself and choosing one that I can get along with."
Logan, who was driving, glanced at the TNT sitting on the passenger seat. "Hey, you have another reason for being here, don't you?"
"Well, some of these symbiotes have dreams of world domination. One of them is too dangerous to let live."
Chino considered the internal conflict among the symbiotes. If the strongest symbiote managed to establish a connection with Earth, what else could it accomplish?
"Even if the symbiote you mentioned grants its host powerful abilities, their numbers are small. That kind of large-scale influence is impossible."
"What if there were millions of them?"
"!!!"
Logan slammed on the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a sudden stop in the middle of the road.
Both Logan and Wade turned to look at Chino.
"Are you serious?"
"This is getting way too exciting."
Chino met their gazes with a serious expression and nodded. "The symbiotes were brought back from space by the Life Foundation. They come from a planet full of them."
"I see."
Logan's usual nonchalance vanished as he gritted his teeth and slammed on the accelerator.
"Yoo-hoo! Boss, we're saving the world again!"
"So that's how it is."
Logan drove at full speed, and soon, they arrived at the research facility in the dead of night.
"Alright. Wade, Logan, I'm counting on you."
Chino watched them closely.
"No problem, Boss."
"Kid, don't stray too far from me."
Wade and Logan jumped out of the vehicle and moved like ghosts toward the entrance of the facility.
Chino followed behind, gripping her pistol tightly, knowing full well that a gun might not be useful when it mattered most.
Wade moved swiftly between the shadows, locating the guards with ease. He pulled out a short knife and stabbed one in the heart from behind.
The guard tried to call for help, but blood flooded his windpipe. Moments later, he collapsed. Wade, ever the considerate assassin, propped the man up against the wall, making it look like he had dozed off.
As they advanced, Wade efficiently eliminated more guards, skillfully avoiding security cameras and keeping a low profile.
"Impressive."
Chino's eyes gleamed with admiration at Wade's fluid and precise movements.
Eventually, they reached the laboratory. Wade glanced at the password-protected door and sighed.
"Fingerprint scan, password, two-factor authentication… This is a hassle."
Logan pushed Wade aside, unsheathed his claws, and slashed at the metal door twice. With a final kick, a triangular gap was torn open.
"Thanks, Logan."
Chino didn't hesitate to step inside.
"Hey, do you sell those claws? I'd trade ten thousand knives for just one of them. I could make two high-quality steel blades out of those."
"If you sew your mouth shut, I'll consider it."
"Impossible. Do you know how much happiness my mouth brings Vanessa? If I lost it—"
"Shut up, Wade."
As the two bickered, Chino examined the symbiotes.
Four containers held symbiotes of different colors, all in storage.
Most of them were still and quiet, except for one. The black symbiote was alive with energy, thrashing violently inside its container.
Chino's eyes darkened. She aimed her gun at the container and shot, shattering the glass. The black symbiote oozed out.
"Come on, Venom. From now on, you and I are one."
Chino reached out as the symbiote surged forward, merging with her body.
Despite the widespread rumors that Venom was the weakest of the symbiote race, evidence suggested otherwise. In Venom: The Deadly Guardian, multiple symbiotes attempted to suppress Venom, only to fail.
The movies had called Venom a loser on his home planet, but that had nothing to do with his strength. If he were weak, he wouldn't have been selected as part of Riot's vanguard force.
Chino ran her hands over her body, feeling no discomfort. It seemed the large amounts of chocolate she had eaten earlier had helped.
"Boss, are you okay?"
Wade wasn't worried about Chino—he was worried about his half-million-dollar paycheck.
"I'm fine. It's time to leave."
Chino placed TNT next to the silver symbiote's container, not wanting to risk its survival.
"Let's go."
The three of them retraced their steps and exited the facility.
They hopped into the car, and Chino pressed a button.
A loud explosion echoed through the night as a column of black smoke rose into the sky.
They had obtained Venom, eliminated Riot, and escaped unharmed.
And yet, Chino felt strange, as if she were dreaming.
A dream?
Bang!
Without warning, Chino pulled out a gun and fired at Logan, who was driving.
"Boss, are you crazy?! Why did you shoot Logan?"
Wade looked at her in disbelief.
"This is real."
Chino watched as Wolverine slumped over the steering wheel, then turned the gun toward Wade.
"Sorry, Wade."
Bang!
Wade's forehead burst open, and he collapsed lifelessly onto the seat.
Chino sat in the still-moving car, staring at the gun in her hand. A small smile crept onto her lips.
"They're not really dead. I'm just betting on the true poison within me."
Bang!
Am I dead?
Chino turned her head and found herself staring into a pair of large, pale blue eyes.
"If your mind is strong enough, death in this world will never be real for you."
From behind Chino, Venom's head emerged, blocking the bullet.
"I knew it wasn't an illusion when you merged with my body." Chino lowered the gun.
"I can save you, but you need to understand that while your mind may be your own, your body belongs to me now."
Venom bared its sharp, bloody teeth. Its long tongue slithered out, running across Chino's face as if about to devour her.
"We are all lonely in this world. You are an alien among symbiotes, and I am a wanderer from another realm."
"We are the same."
Despite the symbiotes' reputation for being emotionless, obedient creatures, Venom was different. He had his own thoughts, his own feelings. And now, he had a host who truly understood him.
