Chapter 114: A Fatal Wound!
The gunshots echoed, and Nate, who was close to the area, heard them. This was when he understood the urgency of the situation.
Nate stopped the moment he did because there was a chance that these were the police.
The last thing he would want was to be caught in the crossfire but he hadn't heard any sirens.
It would make sense that the police arrived first considering how dangerous this area was
There was no way the police car wouldn't be nearby, and if they got the amber alert, then Nate had done all he could, but he had to trust the cops to do their job now.
He checked Kyle's location and noticed he was no longer moving.
He was stationary but Nate knew that Kyle should be able to survive long enough for the police to get to him.
He had to get off the road and this was why he opted to take shortcuts, he wasn't a stranger to this terrain either.
He had been here when he was younger even though the area wasn't in this state back then as it had become a den for criminals.
He saw multiple homeless people strung out on drugs and alcohol littered everywhere on the road.
This allowed him to move faster and undetected, he hoped Kyle was okay because he knew he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he wasn't.
It took a little over a minute for Nate to close in on the target and in no time, he arrived at the location but there was nothing in sight.
Nate's body recoiled the moment he saw three dead bodies, there was no sign of a struggle because he didn't know that the police would attempt to go for the kill shot against people holding bats.
But he wasn't surprised, this was a common theme in America, and the value of human life was equivalent to a trending meme.
Nate wanted to run away but this was where Kyle's location ended so there was no doubt he was here but where?
Nate couldn't establish any visuals on him but managed to find his phone on the floor but what was more worrying was the trail of blood along the floor.
There was no sign of the police, if the police were the ones responsible, there was no way in hell they wouldn't secure the area.
That could only mean one thing, this wasn't done by the police.
Nate gulped; realizing that he might have bitten off more than he could chew but why was it taking the police so long to get here?
Nate decided to follow the blood trail because he knew time was the enemy.
"Kyle, what the hell have you gotten yourself into!?" Nate questioned, picking up one of the metal bars on the floor just in case he would need it, parking his bicycle some distance away.
Nate followed the blood trail into a rundown house, he didn't like the way things were looking but who did the blood belong to? But who would find them first? Nate or the police?
-
A few minutes prior to Nate arriving at the scene, a gunshot echoed the moment Kyle reached for the gun but Mike had missed.
He involuntarily pulled the trigger upon being startled by Kyle, this allowed Kyle to tackle him to the ground, inadvertently knocking the gun out of his hand.
They struggled on the ground for dominance, Kyle managed to land a few punches to his face but Mike was much stronger than him so there was only so much he could do in this situation.
It was only a matter of time before Mike regained control of the situation, knocking Kyle off him.
Kyle rolled on the floor but was closer to the gun than Mike.
Kyle dashed towards the gun, he didn't know if he was capable of killing a man but was about to find out.
But Kyle underestimated Mike, Mike displayed speed that shouldn't be possible for his body size.
He sprung to his feet and dashed towards the gun, Kyle got to it first and pointed it in Mike's direction but Mike slammed his foot right into Kyle's face, fracturing his jaw and sending him reeling.
This force nearly knocked him out but Kyle held on to his sanity as best as he could.
He knew that Mike was the real deal and needed to get out of here
He was no match for this monster and that was when he chose flight because he couldn't even reach his phone at this point.
There was a sharp pain in his rib and upon closer observations, he saw that Mike had a bloodied knife in his right hand.
Kyle clutched his abdomen and blood was spilling out of it but he still had the adrenaline coursing through his veins. He needed to get out before it subsided.
At that moment, he knew he had been stabbed but the adrenaline running through his body didn't let him feel the pain and Kyle took off.
He ran in a zig-zag formation and this made it harder for Mike to hit his mark, he fired a bullet or two before running out but none of those bullets hit their mark as it narrowly missed Kyle.
Before long, Kyle was out of sight, taking a sharp turn but Mike wasn't about to let him get away.
He had seen too much and if he reported to the authorities, there was no doubt that he had the influence to force these cops into action. Find your next read on m_v l|e'm-p| y r
"You can't run forever, you fucker! You once told me you would put a bullet between my eyes. Isn't it funny Kyle? That I'm the one about to do that," Mike shouted.
He knew Kyle couldn't go far and the trail of blood on the ground gave away his location no matter how fast he ran.
He would eventually succumb to his wound and the game of cat and mouse began.
