Chapter 627: Ye Jinglan made a move
Liao Liqin had no idea that his angry words would put Du De on guard against him. When he returned to the parking space where they had parked their car, Liao Liqin saw Luo Huian standing outside and sucking on a lollipop. She was staring at the horizon while waiting for him, as Qi Yongrui and Fan Meilin were already asleep with the children in the back of the RV.
When Luo Huian heard the sound of footsteps, she raised her head and looked up. "You are back?" She took out the lollipop from her mouth and gazed at him deeply. Even though Liao Liqin didn't say anything, Luo Huian knew that something had happened between him and Du De. How could she not know when the Gloom Index was fluctuating so badly?
She looked at the mer and the sight before saying to him, "Alright, why are you getting upset? Didn't I already tell you that the woman is not worthy of your sincerity?"
Liao Liqin's eyes turned red. Indeed, Luo Huian had told him that Du De was not worth his sincerity, but he just couldn't let go of her. He thought that even if she was not a good person, she had saved him when they were children. But after listening to her harsh words, he was filled with a hint of disappointment in his heart.
He felt disheartened and uncomfortable thinking about how he had been kind to someone who had stolen the credit of his saviour. He glanced at Luo Huian and then signed with his hands, "She lied to me. She said that she was the one who saved me from the kidnappers, but it turned out that she was lying all along. She never saved me; it was someone else. And I helped her for so many years; I don't even know who saved me or where she is."
When Liao Liqin thought about how he had been fooled by Du De for so long, he felt angry and resentful, but when he calmed down a little, he realised that the fault lay more with him than it lay with Du De. She was the one who lied, but he was the one who believed her lies. There were so many loopholes now that he stopped and thought about it, but he didn't stop to think them through. Now he had not only wronged himself but even his benefactor. He wondered if that girl was alright.
Due to Du De's intervention, he didn't bother to check up on the little girl who had saved his life. He wondered if she made it out safely, if she got hurt due to him or if she suffered any injuries that were not treated on time due to his negligence – Liao Liqin was worried that he would never be able to forgive himself.
When Luo Huian saw him fretting, she couldn't help but frown and asked, "What's the matter?"
"I am worried that the little girl who saved me might have been injured because of me," signed Liao Liqin with a worried expression. "But I trusted Du De and ended up forgetting all about my benefactor. I feel guilty and saddened because of it."
He brought his hands down by his side and lowered his head. He truly felt upset and guilty; if he had been careful and hadn't gone against his parents and brothers, all because of his rebellious attitude, things wouldn't have become messed up like this.
Just as he was drowning in guilt, a hand reached out and patted him on top of his head. He raised his head and looked up at Luo Huian, who said to him, "There is no need for you to think so much. Even though you made a mistake, you were just a child who didn't know anything better. Children are allowed to make mistakes."
"But I am–"
"I know," Luo Huian smiled softly. She ruffled his hair and said to him, "I know that you are an adult, but there is no law which states that an adult cannot make a mistake. So what if you treated a fake as your benefactor? It wasn't your fault. You had good intentions, which were taken advantage of by others. As long as you find the evidence, as well as the little girl who rescued you, wouldn't it undo all the wrongs that you have done?"
Liao Liqin still felt a bit hesitant. He said to Luo Huian, "But what about all these years when I have treated Du De like my benefactor?"
"Then you can simply take it as doing charity," Luo Huian spoke quite smoothly. She didn't want to make Liao Liqin feel like he had done something wrong. Stabilising his gloom index was much more important than proving that she was right and he was wrong. She said to him, "The things that have already happened cannot be changed. So there is no point in discussing them. It would be better if you simply let them go and move forward. If you do better than her, I believe that it would be upsetting enough for that woman."
Luo Huian knew Du De well enough to understand that the woman was not someone who truly respected Liao Liqin. Though she spoke nice words, she never truly meant them. She simply wanted to make use of Liao Liqin's skills, which was why she spoke those sweet words to him. If not, Luo Huian was willing to eat her kettle if Du De wasted her time with Liao Liqin.
The truth was that Du De truly looked down on Liao Liqin.
Thus, if the mer started living a good life, she was certain that the woman would truly be stifled to death. She said to him, "Start working hard on your passion and try to surpass Du De. Only by making a name for yourself will you be able to make that woman feel sorry for what she has done."
Liao Liqin pursed his lips. He had to admit that what Luo Huian said was indeed true; if he surpassed Du De, that woman was bound to feel uncomfortable. He nodded and agreed with what Luo Huian had said. Even his gloom index stopped fluctuating; seeing this, Luo Huian heaved a sigh of relief. She truly hoped that the mer would wake up and stop entangling with Du De.
That woman was his nemesis; as long as he stayed with her, Liao Liqin was determined to lose whatever luck he had in his life. It would be better if the two of them strayed as far as possible, or else who knows who would be the one to suffer?
She glanced at the whistle that she had given to Liao Liqin and said to him, "Make sure that you keep this whistle with you all the time, and if something happens, then you need to blow on it. Make sure that you remember this, alright?" Luo Huian didn't know if the mer remembered anything about the whistle or not, which was why she quietly reminded him. She didn't want Liao Liqin to forget the use of the whistle when he needed it the most.
Liao Liqin looked down at the whistle and nodded. Even though he didn't understand what Luo Huian meant when she told him to blow the whistle when he was in danger, he thought that maybe it was because Luo Huian had arranged for some special team or whistle for him, which was why she was so adamant about making sure that he would bring the whistle with him everywhere he went.
Luo Huian heaved a sigh of relief. She was glad that the mer had remembered the use of the whistle and had not forgotten, or else, who knows what might have happened?
She didn't trust Du De, as Luo Huian already knew that the woman was planning something sinister.
Unless Liao Liqin was the one who was keeping his guard up, she was certain that the mer was destined to fall into trouble.
"Let's go." Luo Huian knew what was going to happen, but she didn't rush to change Liao Liqin's destiny; unless the mer wanted to change it himself, there was nothing that Luo Huian could do. She turned on her feet and slid inside the car while Liao Liqin followed her and sat down on the passenger seat.
That night, Nan Zhi was taken to the emergency room for surgery, and that very night, the news that Luo Huian and her husbands had kidnapped a child broke through the internet. Ye Jinglan, who went to look for the nanny, was kicked out by the staff of the building where the nanny worked.
Ye Jinglan, who thought that he had gotten the long end of the stick, was rather upset. He had gotten used to taking money from the nanny and going out to gamble. Thus, when the nanny refused and told him that he had no money to give, he became quite unhappy; he even threatened the nanny that he would make him regret it, but the mer nanny remained put.
Now that things had advanced to this point, he would make Luo Huian pay for ignoring him.
