Chapter 146: Submitting the Mission
Chen Guan and his two companions followed the adjutant to first handle the procedures for transferring the other team members out of Team 17. After completing this, they went to the administrative hall to submit the task.
Initially, Chen Guan didn't want to submit it, but since Li Jinting personally came, it was evident that the matter was not so simple, and it would probably be impossible not to submit it.
Chen Guan did not hesitate and submitted the task directly, but he didn't submit everything.
They only handed in one piece of the Ghost-Eyed Python's snake shedding, kept the Phoenix feathers they had chosen, and submitted the remainder. Unfortunately, the Dragon Robe and the Emperor's Sword were part of the task's mandatory requirements and had to be entirely handed over without private retention.
"Captain Chen, is this really appropriate?" The adjutant looked at Chen Guan with a strange expression, thinking this guy really dared to do anything he could imagine.
"Adjutant Chu, I submitted the task according to the requirements. If there's any mistakes, I hope Adjutant Chu can point them out." Chen Guan said calmly.
"Some things, keeping them might not be a good idea, they might even bring trouble." Adjutant Chu hinted.
"I wonder what kind of things are so troublesome. If I had it, I would certainly throw it away at the first opportunity." Chen Guan looked at Adjutant Chu and said.
"Creatures like snakes have always been considered auspicious since ancient times; killing them is inauspicious, and keeping things related to them is even more so." Seeing Chen Guan's nonchalance, Adjutant Chu had to speak in a lowered voice.
"Thanks for the advice, Brother Chu. I'm someone who strongly believes in fate and definitely wouldn't keep such an inauspicious thing by my side. How about this—I find a time to visit Commander Li personally and hand this auspicious item, which someone like me cannot enjoy, over to him myself. What do you think, Brother Chu?" Chen Guan smiled as he spoke.
"This..." Despite being knowledgeable, Adjutant Chu was at a loss for words when dealing with someone like Chen Guan.
"Let's not overthink it. I feel an instant affinity with you, Brother Chu. How about we grab a bowl of noodles together and have a good chat? I have a feeling we could be great friends." Chen Guan pulled Adjutant Chu along as he walked out.
Adjutant Chu thought, "Inviting me for food, and you only treat me to noodles? With your stingy nature, only a fool would become good friends with you."
Yet, he had no choice but to follow Chen Guan for noodles, hoping to get the other snake shedding back; otherwise, he could not account for it when he returned.
Originally, Adjutant Chu thought Chen Guan was speaking figuratively when mentioning noodles, but to his surprise, Chen Guan really took him to eat noodles, and it was at the reserve team's cafeteria.
This frustrated Adjutant Chu, but with important responsibilities on hand, he had no choice but to accompany Chen Guan, hoping to quickly resolve things with him and take back the other snake shedding.
However, Chen Guan did not give him a chance to speak. Whenever Adjutant Chu mentioned the snake shedding, Chen Guan would say he would personally bring it to Li Jinting later.
Whenever Adjutant Chu offered to take on the task himself, Chen Guan would insist that they should not be so formal among brothers and that he wanted to go personally to thank Li Jinting for his help.
Despite not normally eating noodles, Adjutant Chu grudgingly accompanied Chen Guan in eating three large bowls of noodles and still ended up empty-handed, dejectedly returning.
"Captain, it seems Commander Li highly values the snake shedding and is determined to get it. Wouldn't it be troublesome for us to keep it?" An Yiqi asked.
"Of course, it would. So, we should take it to Li Jinting, but not without gaining some benefits." Chen Guan chuckled and continued, "Let's put that aside for now. While we still have the snake shedding, let's make something for ourselves. The Phoenix Feather needs a sheath, and we could also make ourselves a soft armor for safer battles with Qiuling."
Once Chen Guan decided, he led the two to find a processing workshop.
Of course, for such matters, he wanted the most famous and best. With a little money on hand, Chen Guan felt the burning desire not to settle for anything less.
They designed the style and sketched the pattern. The seasoned craftsmen in the workshop told them that this type of leather required processing to achieve the appropriate hardness and flexibility, which could not be completed in just two or three days. The items they ordered would take at least over a month to be finished.
Chen Guan took the leftover snake shedding back with him, waiting for the next time Li Jinting summoned him to take it along as an offering.
The three of them only used a small portion, and giving up the rest in exchange for some benefits seemed reasonable.
Besides these, they also had the Snake-entwined Wood, which was not a task item and thus not something they could submit, nor had they figured out its purpose.
After consulting others, they still couldn't identify the plant origin of the root. Its material was incredibly hard; typical steel was not this hard. Even the sharp Phoenix Feather couldn't leave a mark on the Snake-entwined Wood.
Chen Guan found some downtime, and within days, he heard that those who were kicked out from Team 17 had all left the reserve team.
No team was willing to take them, so they had no choice but to leave.
Only Bu Changning, for some reason, went mad and was sent to Hospital No. 13, thus escaping the expulsion from the reserve team.
However, going to Hospital No. 13 could be worse, as it's the Celestial Court Army's psychiatric hospital. Those sent there are soldiers from the Celestial Court Army allegedly suffering from mental illnesses, though whether they truly are ill or just labeled as such is uncertain.
In any case, few people recover and return after entering Hospital No. 13.
Now, Team 17 only consisted of Chen Guan, Shi Zhimen, and An Yiqi. Chen Guan was the captain, Zhimen became the vice-captain again, and An Yiqi was content to be a member.
The three of them had quite a few points and benefits, no shortage of resources, and focused on cultivation, hoping to quickly achieve the Second Awakening.
Zhimen and An Yiqi were researching to find suitable Secret Spirits for their Second Awakening, while Chen Guan went out alone with the Paperman and his pets like Rouge to level up.
Chen Guan didn't hunt high-level Secret Spirits, he targeted things like the Netherworld Soldiers and Ox Head and Horse Face, and the Paperman could slowly level up on the battlefield as soon as summoned.
Chen Guan figured that the Paperman's leveling mechanism was related to death, not simply absorbing primordial energy from dead Secret Spirits.
Rouge finally reached level 10, and to advance to level 11, it needed to awaken Alien Elemental Energy.
While awakening Alien Elemental Energy for Secret Spirit Pets wasn't as complex as it was for humans, it still required opportunities and support from inherent Secret Techniques; simply absorbing more primordial energy wasn't enough for leveling up.
Chen Guan estimated that for Rouge to awaken, it needed to focus on its blood, absorbing some special Secret Spirit blood to possibly awaken Alien Elemental Energy.
War Kingdom, Ming Fei, Ghost-Eyed Python, and other pets were similar, needing some special items to undergo their Second Awakening.
While Chen Guan trained his pets, he also trained himself. The Ghost-Eyed Python effortlessly mowed down enemies, allowing Chen Guan to focus on cultivation during battles.
With large quantities of elixirs achieved through points, after more than a month, Chen Guan's level finally reached 10. He couldn't count how many elixirs he consumed in the process, nearly finishing all those obtained through redeeming points.
The Secret Technique of One is superb in every aspect except its high resource consumption during practice.
At level 10, Chen Guan's primordial energy reached 512, surpassing not only his peers but even a Third Awakening cultivator couldn't match it.
The Secret God Quality Paperman didn't have as much primordial energy as Chen Guan, and this gap would only widen. Once Chen Guan reached level 11, his primordial energy would exceed a thousand.
But judging from his experiences reaching levels 9 and 10, even with the possibility of a Second Awakening, leveling would become even more daunting. Without the aid of Heavenly and Earthly Treasures or elixirs, gaining a single level could take half a year or longer.
"What is so special about this Vermilion Fruit?" Chen Guan wondered, examining the Vermilion Fruit in his hand. He had consulted people about it and scanned it with instruments, finding no issues. The Vermilion Fruit's energy components were very high, potentially even more potent than typical wild vermilion fruits.
