Chapter 91: Dungeon Break: Part II
The tear in the sky grew wider, spewing out monsters left and right that twisted with grotesque forms. At first, it was the E-rank goblins that came out, scrawny and feral. They came in waves, dozens at a time, scrambling over each other.
Their skin was green, scars and fungus melting on their skin like chocolate dressing. They snarled at the Adventurers, which didn't even make them flinch, since those goblins were only E-rank.
Marcus stood at the forefront, his ability tuned in with the shadows, almost making them a living entity. He raised a hand, and tendrils upon tendrils of darkness lashed out, impaling the first goblin, but not stopping there, the tendrils devoured the entire goblin population as if they were rinsed meat.
Flesh, blood, and organs spat out on the ground as the creature's heart tore itself in a swift motion. Another thousand goblins came out, not in waves like before, but immediately, as the first couple of waves were instantly annihilated.
The other Adventurers charged in unison, a wall of steel and magic crashing through the horde. Swords cut through the goblin limbs, sending arms and legs flying across the battlefield.
One Adventurer, a vigorous man with fire manipulation, hurled flames that consumed a baker's dozen of goblins in a fell swoop, their snarls turning into chokes as their skin seared from bone, melting to the ground.
The trio positioned themselves on the left flank, all the way in the back, since nearly all the Adventurers there were stronger than they were, so they didn't want to halt their movements, while also protecting the guild headquarters.
The goblins spotted them immediately, a pack of ten breaking off from the continuous surge. Nova activated his ability, feeling the itch in his Circle of Pillars ignite, as he summoned his two entropy daggers for pure destruction.
He rushed in as Elesch and Adam activated their abilities. Elesch turned her small Lunaris Ore rapier back to its original size as she activated her void manipulation ability, the rapier increasing the strength of her ability as both the weapon and her complemented each other.
Adam's fingers turned into claws; they were much harder and stronger, with his skin hardening, his vision improving tenfold. He also rushed in, as Elesch stayed back, realizing that she didn't know how to operate a rapier, and her void manipulation was also still touch-based, so in terms of battling, she wasn't as effective as the other two.
Adama nd Nova tagged teamed, both splitting five goblins amongst themselves. Nova struck the first goblin, followed by Adam, tearing through the goblin's body as if it were a piece of paper. They cut the goblins in half, each one of them with fury. The goblins' lifeless bodies lay on the ground, their strident shriekings ending, with their smirks fading away.
The Adventurers worked together to defeat all the incoming goblins with ease, as most were both D-rank, so handling E-rank monsters wasn't hard. But then, the rift in the sky vibrated throughout the world. Everyone, in every corner of the world, felt it. It grew wider, wide enough to encompass three continents in its wake.
As the rift rippled across the world, another colossal wave of monsters poured through. This time, it was white goblins, drakes, and mudgrubs. They were all D-rank, still not a threat to the Adventurers.
The mudgrub was a small, sluggish, worm-like creature that lived in swamps and muddy fields. It mostly eats decaying plants and was known to squirm under travelers' boots or wagons. Though it has a weak body, it produces this sticky poison that can slow down prey or even kill them within a second.
As the mudgrub poured in, they vanished into the ground underneath, as they didn't like violence and only attacked if provoked. And if even one was provoked, the thousand underneath the Adventurer's boots would immediately start to attack, since they were also more family-oriented.
The Adventurers again took down the white goblins and the snarling, shrieking, disgusting, grotesque drakes, who had infiltrated the skies. Nova and Adam decided to join the battle, fighting off against a white goblin and a drake, killing the goblin by fooling it, but the drake was much harder to catch, let alone kill.
But, Nova decided to launch Adam into the sky, targeting the drake in its own turf, to make a fool out of it. Nova saw the perfect opportunity, as he and the drake were lined in a perfect vertical line, like an asymptote, launching Adam, who, without fearing a higher-level drake, screamed at it, slashing in a downward arc, splitting the drake into two pieces, body pouring like rain, as it collided against the ground.
As the waves intensified, D-rank orcs appeared through the rift next, towering brutes with gray skin stretched over bulging muscles, wielding massive clubs studded with spikes.
Their roars shook the ground, and the air reeked of their musky sweat mixed with goblin blood. One orc smashed an ignorant Adventurer aside, the man's body crumpling against a wall, ribs shattering in a rhythm of snaps, vomit, and blood mixed pouring out from his mouth. Needless to say, his D-rank Adventurer life may have ended in that very moment.
Elesch spun her rapier as she ascended forward, swinging precisely as the orc, cutting through its face, but only a faint scar appeared, though that was just a feint, for her void ability to temporarily erase the orc's club from existence, as she had mastered such a technique in her Ability Chamber, all thanks to her ability.
The orc saw his empty hand, confusion grilling across its face. She capitalized, thrusting forward using her rapier to spin again and cut into its knee, the joint temporarily unavailable, as the legs folded unnaturally, like crumbling ice.
The orc toppled with a roar, confusion still gnawing at its "mind" as its bone protruded from the guttural pain, outputting blood in rhythm from its holes. Every one of them.
