God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 84: Money Talks

After the dreadful, yet blissful F-rank mission that the trio participated in, Marcus offered them one more day of rest before the training on beating an E-rank dungeon would start. Along with general training to improve the trio's Circle of Pillars.

The trio needed about four more F-rank missions before being recognized as E-rank Adventurers by the guild, but after the chaos that had ensued upon them, from Elesch's perspective, since both Nova and Adam were bantering along the way, even if some parts of them were cringy.

The trio was currently located in Marcus's office, stretching their limbs, as Marcus was yet to show up.

"Why do you think he called us?" Adam asked, as Nova yawned, while Elesch was blushing, trying not to let Adam see her face.

"Who knows," Nova said, his voice low, sighing, as he added. "But hopefully, if it's a mission, it's chaotic as it was yesterday."

Elesch's blush faded, coughing to clear her throat. "First of all, we were literally surrounded by animals," she said, her voice soft and gentle, though as she continued, her tone became slightly serious. "And I hate to say it, even though I love animals, it was complicating our mission. And all that just to deliver a wheel of cheese with a weird name. Yeah, I don't think we should be completing missions like those."

"True," Adam quickly replied.

"Yeah, but like, it was fun though," Nova said, smiling, then a little chuckle came out. "I mean, Adam and I were at it, having fun, you, however, were very serious. It's not like you to be serious."

"That is true, I don't know, I just felt a bit bitchy, I think that's how the girls here say it," Elesch said, thinking of a way to phrase it better. "Though I don't know if there is a better way to phrase it."

Adam was confused, as he didn't know that Nova and Elesch were secretly from the top-notch spot of Heaven. He played along, laughingly nervously, as Nova and Elesch conversed further, somewhat ignoring him in the process.

Then, the door creaked open, and Marcus, wearing a very expensive-looking suit, walked in. He sat down, as the trio looked at him in awe, taken aback by the shine on the suit. The design, the fabric, the very hands that touched the suit felt as though they were the hands of Father himself.

Marcus was confused as to why the trio was looking at them with such an awed expression. He spoke up, his tone betraying the weirdness he felt by the trio: "Why are you looking at me like that. Do I have something on my face?"

The trio nodded sideways in unison. Their mouths still dropped, eyes not having blinked for a moment. Marcus's face contorted into a more "afraid" expression, as he was getting very creeped out by the trio.

Then Nova shook his head, coming out of the trance, and then shook the shoulder of the other, too, until they nodded, coming back to reality. They didn't know what had happened, and Marcus tried to ignore the creepiness from the trio.

"How expensive is that suit?" Nova asked adamantly, as he tried not to speak, but his brain overrode him and pushed the words out of his mouth.

Marcus sighed, then went back to his neutral-good expression, having a light smile being forged, then replied: "It's about, probably, a million dollars, I don't really know or care, if I am being honest."

"You just said a million dollars as if it's pocket change for you," Adam said immediately after. He was very quick today with his comments.

"I don't really care about a million, it's basically pocket money for me," Marcus said, shrugging his shoulders. "Anyways, I didn't call you today to discuss how expensive my suit is. I called you today to give you one last day of total enjoyment before we move on to the next phase of your training."

"So," he pulled out a card from his pocket, then placed it on the table, sliding it towards the trio, "here is a card that you can spend however much money you want on. You can buy clothes, video games, whatever you want. Fuck, you can buy the entire Mona Lisa if you so desire."

"How much money does the guild generate to have so much on one card?" Nova said, his jaw dropping in astonishment.

"Well, for one, donations are a supplement to the guild. America hasn't experienced a dungeon break in over a decade. And so to keep it that way, we only recruit the best among the best Adventurers and pay them well. I saw potential in you two originally, but Elesch also seemed to have potential, so I let her stay, and created you three a guild debt and credit cards, which any bank would pay a hefty amount of money for."

Continuing: "Another reason is because of the dungeon items, since they are so rare and a lot of them are hard to find and have a high value, we constantly trade them with other guilds around the world or with powerful people and organizations."

He continued further: "Artifacts, mana stones, everything found in the dungeon, we constantly trade. The guild also participates with other companies and the stock market. We can loan people and money to companies for protection or infrastructure, or whatever the companies' desires are. We have monopolies across several branches, and have merchandise and other items that make us about a trillion dollars annually, so the guild isn't worried about money, not even the slightest."

"What the fuck," Nova exclaimed softly. "Like, what the actual fuck. I knew that the American Guild Association was the richest and the strongest in terms of basically everything in the world, but I didn't know it was this strong."

Marcus leaned back in his chair, folding his arms as he replied to Nova, with Elesch and Adam just trying to comprehend the wealth that the guild was flowing through: "We have some of the strongest Adventurers in the world. We constantly build and expand, and hone the fighters further and further."

Then he asked him a question: "Do you remember the guy who finished first in the tournament? He is currently training to complete a D-rank dungeon, though, of course, unlike with you, he is rushing through the pillars without really refining them all that much, so he will hit a block soon and become one of our guild's average Adventurers. Such a shame."

"Anyways, let's head downstairs so that you can go enjoy, since tomorrow onwards, I will refine you to the most guttural levels that even Satan can't imagine."
