God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 77: A Father's Revenge: Part I

Three individuals emerged in front of Nova: a fat guy who looked exactly how you describe a wealthy "Boss" with two Adventurers to his side. One of them was controlling the roots, closing the distance slowly, as the Boss wanted to speak with Nova.

"I know exactly who you are, Nova," the Boss said, smoking a mean cigar. Then, menacingly: "You are a very interesting individual, aren't ya?"

"I don't know what your pig mouth is talking about," Nova said with a vile smirk.

The Adventurer, manipulating the roots, tightened the distance, engulfing Nova further as the Boss waved at him to stop. He expanded the root back to its original position, clearly agitated by how Nova was referring to the boss.

"You have no record of you being older than a month or two. Interestingly, you're so off the grid, yet you're working with the American Guild, which baffles me." The Boss said, intrigued by him. "Though that's not the reason you're here today. The reason I brought you here was to take my vengeance."

"Your vengeance?" Nova said, dumbfounded.

"Ah, yes, I forgot to introduce myself. Hello, it's nice to meet you. I'm Gary Hilbert. My son died in the tournament that you were taking part in. His real name was James Hilbert. Do you recognize that name?"

"No, not really." Nova said, not caring about whoever this "James Hilbert" kid was. "I don't give a shit about your son. So, just tell me where my sister and friend are, and I will let you all go, unharmed."

The Boss chuckled heavily, getting arrogant, with his two minions joining him. The Boss wasn't laid back anymore; he was angry to the bone. He wanted his vengeance for his son, who died in the tournament.

"You fucking arrogant brat." He said, snarling at Nova, who replied with a smirk, summoning his daggers quietly, trying to mask their presence. "You fucking killed him in round two, now do you remember?"

Nova went back in time, remembering everything that had happened in the tournament, forgetting most of it, since it was mostly trivial to him. But, he remembered.

His face brightened as the Boss chuckled with venom.

"So, now do you remember, you little shit?" The Boss asked again, snarling again, but this time more aggressively.

"Of course," Nova said with passion, with enthusiasm, dropping his daggers, moving his hands as he continued his dialogue. "The one who killed himself during our battle. The one who cheated. The one that kept on absorbing those yellow mana crystals, because he didn't train to endure that long. The one who was heavily arrogant and a bully. That shit? Oh, I remember alright."

"You little," the Boss said, trying to control himself, as Nova simply smirked.

Then, another, more vicious chuckle left the Boss. The other Adventurer summoned Adam and Elesch in front of Nova. His daggers immediately spawned in, but he controlled himself, letting them hang, masking their aura.

Elesch and Adam were tied up from the mouth, all the way to the legs. Elesch looked at Nova, her muffled screams barely audible. Adam also tried, but he couldn't even make a singular sound to begin with.

"Hang tight," Nova said to both of them. "I will carve these three in a second."

"The audacity," the Boss said, nodding his head side to side. "What will you do? Carve your way out of the roots?" He laughed hard; his minions joined him.

Nova smirked, using his daggers to cut through the roots and escape with minimal effort. His daggers were much stronger and sharper than even he had anticipated, but since he was E-rank and did a lot of training, it made sense for him to have this level of prowess.

Nova leapt towards the one who summoned Adam and Elesch, freeing them first, before carving the guy out in the blink of an eye, his body cutting into pieces and falling off, as blood spilled everywhere.

The Boss got scared, and the guy who could summon roots created a barrier and took the Boss and him far away from the three. The Boss whistled, leading to a surge of men, all in black uniforms, looking like bodyguards, rushing them. Some had awakened, others hadn't awakened.

Adam summoned his claws, his fingers, this time, turning into claws, as the energy of the Void pulsed faintly in Elesch's palms. Nova smirked, cracking his neck, before lunging at the incoming horde of men.

Nova's daggers radiated with that same red-black aura as he dashed in, cutting through the first wave of men like they were paper. Screams filled the air, bodies dropped, and blood spilled fast.

Adam was right beside him, his claws tearing through anyone dumb enough to stand in his way. Elesch, still slightly shaky from being tied up, raised her hands and lunged at some of the men, who tried to use their ability, only for her to erase it and snap their necks.

The Boss and his root-using lackey stayed back, hiding behind a wall of twisted bark. The Boss looked pale now, his cigar gone, but his eyes burned with rage. He couldn't just let Nova walk over him like he did his son. What type of a revenge-seeking father would he be?

"Don't stop!" the Boss screamed at his men, voice breaking. "He killed James, kill him!"

That's when the stronger ones stepped in. One had fire blazing around his arms, another threw arcs of lightning, and a third pulled steel up from the ground.

Nova didn't even slow down. He weaved through the fire, daggers flashing, cutting tendons and throats before their attacks could land. Lightning cracked past him, but he was already inside the man's guard, blades slicing deep. Blood sprayed across the dirt.

Adam ripped the steel conjurer apart with one swipe, while Elesch erased the ability of another, breaking the bones. The massive horde started to falter, but Nova only smirked, cracking his neck again.
