Chapter 76: The Note
Nova and Marcus kept waiting for Adam and Elesch, not knowing the situation they were in. A couple of hours passed by, Nova nervously walking back and forth. Marcus was sitting down, looking at him weirdly, as if thinking he was worrying about nothing.
Marcus then broke the silence, snapping Nova back into reality. "Come on, kid, Adam is with her; as long as he is there, they have each other as support. Plus, you know they like each other, right? So, they are probably just out on a date."
Nova stopped, comprehending the words that were uttered out of Marcus's mouth. He wasn't upset or felt like he was being overprotective. But even if they were out, Adam and Elesch were the ones who told them they would meet up with them, which meant that they were late for their own meet-up? Makes no sense.
"I guess you're right," Nova said, shifting that thought from his head. "As long as they have each other, they are invincible. They're probably fine. I should stop worrying about her. And him."
"Yeah, so go home and get some rest, and you will find her in the morning, sleeping," Marcus said confidently, a bright smile appearing, making him look like a menace.
Nova nodded, bowing at Marcus, then turning back towards the door and walking out. He released his nervousness, knowing that what Marcus said was right. He happily walked away, praying for Adam and Elesch to be safe, while enjoying their date.
Marcus, on the other hand, looked serious. He went to the twentieth floor and walked in front of the elevator doors with an intense aura. He went right in front of his secretary, who knew something important had come up.
"Find where Elesch and Adam have gone missing," Marcus said to her, his voice deep and blunt. "Adam is not the type of kid to miss something that he has set up, which means they either somehow forgot, which Adam doesn't, or couldn't make it, and since he was perfectly fine this morning, he must have not been able to make it because he was abducted. So, find them and put this at the top of the priority list."
His secretary simply nodded, gulping as he turned back to leave through the elevator. She contacted all of his information dealers and searched the web for anything out of proportion.
It was 11:59 P.M., and Nova was sleeping with the kittens, unaware of what was happening with Elesch and Adam. He had a bad dream about Elesch being kidnapped, and instantly woke up. The kittens were in their little bed, so he didn't throw any of them by accident.
He went back to sleep, since his eyes were too heavy. He smiled, not in intimacy, but in pain, as he started to fight a boss. He got his ass handed to him in the beginning, but eventually learned how to fight properly in his dream and still got his ass handed.
Eventually, the sun appeared, and Nova kept trying to defeat the same boss, but couldn't, so he woke up, annoyed with irritation and a mixture of weariness. His mouth arced downward, his eyes heavy. He brushed and showered, putting on his leather jacket, a black T-shirt that felt slightly burned at the top, with leather-looking cargo pants.
He fed the kittens, playing with them as Talia came by. He made breakfast for them, then after an hour had passed, headed to the guild. He felt like he was missing something, but couldn't pinpoint exactly what he was missing, since his head was filled with irritation about that something that he was forgetting.
He entered the guild's door, going to the twentieth floor, and inside Marcus's office, as neither Marcus nor the secretary was present. As he walked towards Marcus's desk, he saw a note. Upon inspecting it further, nonchalantly reading, not caring about it, he removed his hands from his pockets, his nonchalant expression fading into heaviness. His irritation was going away as he realized the key he was missing.
Elesch.
And Adam.
On the note, it clearly stated that Nova and Marcus should meet a guy referred to as "Boss" in an abandoned airport. A mini project that never came to fruition. Nova instantly left, going to the first floor and asking the receptionist who was bullied by that bully way back when, if she could help him.
She nodded, and Nova told her about the request for the airport he had to go to. She searched and found out the address; he saw it was roughly 223 miles away. He cracked his neck as he realized it wasn't that far away if he were to go Mach three.
So, before the receptionist could utter another word, he disappeared. Only the stamp of his boots remained in the aftermath. He navigated his way through the streets at speeds that normal humans couldn't even comprehend. Some of the D-rank Adventurers saw him going, but still, for an E-rank to be able to go as much as Mach three was terrifying.
Nova boosted himself further, pushing his boundaries until he reached Mach four, then near-perfect Mach five. After a couple of minutes, he arrived at the abandoned airport. He didn't see anyone. Marcus wasn't there, Adam and Elesch weren't there, and he didn't know what was happening.
Then, a sudden barrage of gunshots erupted from a distance. He dodged all of them effortlessly, then rushed over to see a guy, fully covered in bombs, crying, as he fired the AK-47. Then, he exploded into a million pieces, sending Nova skidding back, but he got to his feet fast.
Bones and flesh alike of the guy were everywhere, the gore not wavering Nova at all. Then, roots emerged from underneath him. He tried to escape, but they caged him too fast. Boxing him in like a bird.
He tried to punch through the roots, but his strength wasn't enough. He didn't use the daggers yet, since the roots weren't closing in, and he didn't know who was attacking him or why they were attacking him; all he knew was that Adam and Elesch were being held captive in this abandoned airport.
