God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 205: Episode 205

The demon's speed was terrifying. Despite its size, it closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, claws slicing the air with enough force to send shards of stone raining down.

Adam reacted first, his skin hardening into an obsidian-like shell, muscles coiling as he launched himself toward the demon's path. He managed to absorb the initial blow, the impact rattling his bones, but it barely slowed the creature.

Elesch was already moving, her rapier slicing through the air to intercept the lesser demons flanking the colossal threat.

She raised a hand and touched the ground, her void manipulation snuffing out the residual energy left in the demon's wake, erasing the lingering tremors and blasts that might have unbalanced Adam.

The ripples of anti-energy from her touch seemed to form a protective barrier around him as he readied for the next strike.

Adam's instincts were firing on all cylinders. He felt the weight of the demon's presence, a living mountain of claws and teeth, and knew brute force alone wouldn't win. With a grunt, he tapped into his first evolution, Chimera Shell.

Three traits surged through him simultaneously: stone-hard skin, retractable talons sharper than obsidian, and wings resembling those of a gryphon for explosive leaps.

The adaptation allowed him to pivot midair, delivering a crushing claw strike to the demon's armored chest. Sparks flew as his talons scraped against its hide, sending shards of molten rock scattering.

The demon bellowed in pain and fury, spinning to swipe at Adam, but Elesch was already in motion. With a graceful pivot, she conjured a localized pocket of vacuum in front of the creature.

The sudden absence of pressure caused the demon's swing to falter, forcing it to step back, while Elesch's void blasts tore at the weakened outer layer of its skin.

"Keep it off balance!" she shouted, eyes flicking to Adam as the beast roared.

Adam grinned, teeth flashing as he leapt from the rubble, launching himself onto the demon's back. His claws dug into the molten flesh, but the heat burned even through his adaptive hide.

He reacted instantly, channeling a hybrid adaptation: stone skin fused with a fur-like layer of heat-resistant scales.

Pain dulled, he wrapped his tail around one of the demon's jagged wings and yanked, forcing the creature to crash into the ground with a shockwave that sent both lesser demons and debris flying in every direction.

Elesch, sensing an opening, twirled her rapier and thrust it toward the ground, generating a series of void spikes that erupted beneath the demon, destabilizing it further.

The beast staggered, smoke and fragments of shattered stone rising from each strike. Its wings were singed, one arm heavily wounded, yet it roared again, a sound that made the very air quiver.

Adam slid off its back and landed in a crouch, watching Elesch carefully. "Your turn to take the lead," he growled, claws flexing.

Elesch's smirk returned. "Gladly."

She focused, her aura darkening as fragments of void swirled around her. With a swift motion, she extended her hands, sending out concentrated void pockets along the demon's torso and head.

Each pocket imploded on contact, ripping through hardened skin and molten muscle with surgical precision. The creature's roar turned into a bellow of frustration and pain as it thrashed wildly, its claws striking rubble and creating tremors that cracked the battlefield.

Adam didn't hesitate. Using the chaos, he lunged forward again, this time syncing with Elesch's void blasts. He slammed his shoulder into the demon's flank, crushing stone and flesh, while Elesch opened another void pocket directly under its feet.

The implosion sucked away part of its weight, making the beast stumble forward into Adam's waiting claws. The teamwork was seamless, a perfect blend of raw power and calculated precision.

Elesch created openings, nullified elemental hazards, and erased dangerous momentum, while Adam exploited the openings with brutal efficiency, adaptive hide shifting as needed to counter the demon's every strike.

Yet even as they worked in tandem, the demon proved nearly endless in its fury. Its arms were like battering rams, each swipe sending cracks across the city ruins.

Adam's claws scraped stone with every block, adaptive hide straining to its limits. Elesch's void manipulation, powerful as it was, couldn't fully contain the raw, destructive force radiating from the creature.

At one point, the demon slammed its massive fist into the ground, sending Adam flying backward. Elesch immediately formed a void shield to soften his landing, but the blast's reverberation pushed her off balance as well.

Both struggled to regain footing as the demon's shadow loomed over them, smoke curling from its jagged wings, eyes glowing like molten coals.

Adam looked up at Elesch, a feral grin spreading across his face despite the pain. "We finish this together," he growled.

Elesch nodded, void energy spiraling around her rapier. "Let's carve our names into its hide."

Adam tapped into a more dangerous adaptation: hybrid armor plating across his arms and shoulders, claws extended into lethal talons, and a temporary boost in speed.

He charged, dragging the demon's attention, and Elesch followed, void pockets trailing behind her, imploding fragments of rock and molten matter on contact.

Each strike weakened the demon, each void pocket disrupted its rhythm, but even together, it was resilient, adapting to their attacks with unnatural instinct.

The creature lashed out with a massive tail, sweeping Elesch off her feet, but Adam reacted, morphing a scaled arm into a defensive shield and catching her midair.

The two landed together, rolling to absorb the impact, standing back-to-back as the demon raised a claw, larger than any building window.

Elesch whispered, almost to herself, "Time to push it… or die trying."

Adam nodded, muscles coiling like springs. "We're not dying today."

He charged at the demon, drawing its focus, claws striking at weak points, adaptive hide forming spikes, and reinforced plating as the beast retaliated.

Elesch followed, spinning her rapier and launching void spheres that struck the demon from multiple angles, collapsing pockets of molten rock in its path.

The combined assault staggered it, a roar echoing across the ruins, as if the creature itself was surprised by the coordination of the two fighters.
